Demo Boxes?

I recently picked up what I think is a NES demo box for Double Dragon III. The front of the box looks the same mostly, but the back of the box is completley black with nothing on it. Also it is a double ended box like the one Athletic World Box. This is the first box I have ever seen like this, does anyone else have one similar?

    I assume you've inspected it closely to check for signs of anything being blacked out? It could be a printing error I guess, but then you would expect at least a small run to have been made like that. I've never come a demo box myself, but would kill to find one for an unreleased game image

    It was meant to be like this for sure. I doubt the printin error either cause all other DD3 boxes only open from the top like most boxes this one opens from both which is quite odd for a NES game. I am guessing a display box for a store or something.

    Yeah, and he got it from the guy that purchased that large demo box lot -- it's legit AFAIK, but I haven't seen one like it yet. Pretty dang cool though.

    You and me both -- I was high bidder up until the last few seconds. Well, actually, the high bidder retracted which made me the high bidder, then I got outbid.

    I've seen similar types of demo boxes when I worked in retail, but I was there for the N64 era and beyond, so no chance of me seeing any for the NES...most likely a store display box like you said.  It reminds me of a few I used to set up for the PS2 kiosk.
