NES cutting power

I recently sold a NES with some games. I cleaned the games and tested it before i sold it, everything worked without any big problems. Today i get a message from the buyer, saying that the NES is turning off after XX minutes. She says that it just turns off, like the power is being cut. Its just to turn it off and on again and it will work, but it happend everytime she said.

Anyone have any experience with this problem and/or know how to fix it?

I played for about 30 min. before shipping it and i didnt notice any problems. I have noticed this problem before tho, when i left a NES on and went away for a while, when i got back it was turned off, but the power button was still pushed in.

Its a french NES, doubt that have anything to do with it tho, but just mentioning it. I've sold quite a few consoles during the last 2 years and i've never had any complaints about something like this before.

  • Happened to me once due to a bad connection in the AC Adapter. I was playing along for like 30 minutes, then all of a sudden: nothing! Back to the TV's blue AV input screen! Easy fix was to get a new power supply. It sounds like that's what's happening to her.
  • Ye, that might be it, hopefully. In your case, did the AC adapter die totally or could you just turn the NES off and on again and it worked?

I got a message from her now, she said it worked fine now, so far atleast. Seems like a random problem, dont know..
  • I had to wiggle the chord coming out of the AC Adapter's brick to get it working again, and if anyone touched the chord after I had set it, it would fizzle out. But yes, it could go for long stretches without a problem... but you always knew it was going to cut out on you at some point.
  • Yeah I have hard that problem its a short in the cord she should just buy a 3rd party AC adapter.
  • Ok, thanks for the help people image I havnt heard from her in like 2 hours now so i guess its working fine now. If i get more complaint i'll just buy her one of those $10 universal AC adaptors and hopefully that will solve the problem.
