What is up with NES Prices Lately?

What's the deal with NES games skyrocketing over the last month or so? Super Mario/Duck Hunt Carts going for $8 on eBay? Seriously? Mario 3 approaching $20? Legend of Zelda approaching $30?

Does anyone realize how common these are?

  • Ehh so what they are awesome and 8, 20, 30 bucks isn't going to break the bank for anybody. Probably just Xmas gift buys?
  • $8 for SMB/DH? Hahaha oh god. I remember when they were almost literally worthless. Given the game and how everybody who has owned a NES for more than 5 years probably already has a copy, I think it is pretty clear that most of the higher-priced sales of the game are to new NES owners.
  • Its approaching Christmas. There is always an inflation this time of year.

It's just the popular games and people selling them for Xmas. DKOldies is offering $23 per Super Mario 2 cart right now on his site, I sent him a couple this week myself!
  • I believe it is the phenomena labeled "Christmas". These prices will stay or even rise (due to the rumored tax season ahead) until around September of next year.
