Thoughts on how to fix a warped manual?

I have a manual for Pinball that is in great shape except that it was sort of smooshed into the bottom of the box under the cart when I got it and must have stayed that way for a long time.  The pages aren't bent in any way, but the manual itself humps up a bit in spots when it is laid flat (It's wavy).  I tried flattening it out by putting it inbetween two boxes and then stacking a bunch of other heavy boxes on top, but just removed it recently and it hasn't changed...I had it under there for at least 6 months untouched, most likely longer.  Does anyone happen to have any thoughts on another way I might be able to flatten it out?

Thanks in advance for any input,

  • Short of just replacing it, I'd suggest gently over-bending each fold/ripple in the contrary direction and then putting under some heavy books over night. Though with a game like pinball it's sort of like the old broken controller conundrum: probably easier to just toss and replace.
  • place it between two pieces of canvas or thick cloth and try ironing it.

  • Ironing is probly the best solution. Heavy books also works, but its not as efficiant as ironing. Or why not combine, first press with books, then iron them image
  • I do it in the opposite order for boxes and manuals -- I iron them (between two thick rags, or canvas if you have it), then press them underneath a heavy weight before they cool off.

  • I guess the book press method of using two pieces of wood and vice/clamp may work well. Put the manual between the pieces of clean flat wood, tighten, and leave for a while. Like the book stacking, only a lot more pressure.
  • I iron manuals and boxes works pretty good. I usally put a thin rag over the items
  • I'm assuming you guys dry iron?
  • lather...rinse...repeat
