  • Second workout this week. Different instructor, but the same results. I'm not breathing as heavily as I did in the past. Still tough workouts though! I may have to really start lifting weights to get the best workout possible. But I hate running too, which is what I always do before lift things up and put them down.
  • Hey, good luck to everyone doing this!

I started my journey about a year and a half ago and have dropped nearly 50 pounds.

Just thought I'd share some tips that helped me, especially in the beginning, which I found to be the hardest.

The biggest thing I realized was that it is about progress, not perfection. I did a weigh in every week from week one and always at the same time (in the morning before breakfast). Some weeks I would drop 2 - 2.5 pounds, and then there were times where I would drop only .5 pounds, if that. But, if you come to think of it, there are 52 weeks in a year so even if you drop .5 pounds per week (which is very doable) then you'll be down 26 by the end of the year!

The biggest impact that I felt helped me in my journey was not eating late, and eating VERY few carbs (if any for dinner). I loved (and still do) pizza, so I know I couldn't completely deprive myself of it. However, I'd grab one or two slices from the pizza place maybe once or twice a week (and only for lunch, never for dinner). This way, I got a handle on my cravings while sticking to my goal of eating very few carbs for dinner. Not to mention, this helped me immensely with my late night pizza cravings (I'd still order a whole pizza to myself at 12:00 AM in the morning, but not nearly as often).

Oh, and if you cut pop, soda and sugary drinks out of your diet, it'll make a WORLD of difference.

    Good luck!
  • I just started working out again on Saturday, and I hate to admit, but I've been purposefully avoiding this thread until now. Guess I felt guilty for starting so late...but I've started, so that's a win. I'm at 187 now my think that's a water weight fluctuation more than actually representative of weight loss.

...but I've been to the gym three times this week (Sat, Sun and today), and plan on going again on Thursday. I'm sore, but can feel muscles poking out.

Biggest hurdle though is the work-life balance. Coming back from the break, I got absolutely slaughtered with work. We had our Annual General Meeting last week, which meant many late nights in the office. Things have quieted down this week though, and I'm feeling optimistic about my progress so far.

There's a lot of good info and posititivity in this thread. Glad to be doing this with you all!
  • No gym today! Classes start and I got work right afterwards.
  • Good job, folks!! Keep up the great work!

Work-life balance is the big problem.  I worked all day, from 9 - 6:30, and then had a language class from 7 - 9:30, so no running for me today.  But I wil run again tomorro.

Hey guys, checking in here. So last week I had zero progress. I stood the same weight because I didn't go to the gym. I couldn't gather the energy to go last week, my accountant gave me some terrible, terrible news last week and I binged.

This week I'm going to go every single day and burn off at least 500 calories each time.

3400 calories equals 1 lb of fat.  It takes A LOT more than just working out to lose weight.  Either way, staying the same, especially someone like me, is very good progress, so you're diet is at least solid.  If I'm not losing, I'm gaining.  anywho, it's good luck sir, and we're all here for ya.
  • I've still been at 218 from my weigh in today. Been at the gym 4-5 times weekly.
  • I'm down about 5 lbs

I need you to fix my start weight to this post from a week ago.

Anyways, week 1 went down easy. Diet was on point, no cravings, and kicked the booze. Anyways, weighed in today at 307.5. Pretty stoked. I usually do well my first week, but not this well. Hopefully in 2 weeks I'll be back to the 200's. I'll be incorporating some exercise this week to really ramp up the weight loss.

once again, I need you to fix my starting weight.

Once again, another week flys by, and my diet was on point.  It's been going so well, it's actually kinda scarey, and it makes me wonder, why the hell haven't I been doing this longer.  Anyways, i now weigh 302 lbs.  Thats down 5.5lbs from last week, for a total of 19.5lbs.  It's been a great 2 weeks.  I honestly excepted a lower number this week, so that gets me thinking that my plateau week will be next week.  Which is fine, i'm expecting it.  Also, i've really gotta get off my lazy ass and hit up that eliptical.  Not so much to lose more weight, but just overall get in shape.

  • Weigh in at 144.5. We went to St. Augustine this weekend with a group of friends, and while we didn't go crazy on food, it was much different food than what we've had at home. Time to get serious now lol.
  • week 3 weigh in : 210 lbs.
  • Ive been terrible this week. I overdid it last week. But back on track next week.
  • I did awesome this week up until today. Today was my nephews first birthday and I ate cake and ice cream making me go over my daily calorie limit by a whopping 950 points today! Yikes.

I'm heading to the gym in the morning to make up for it.
  • 275 -_-...I can't believe I went up again damn it.

Are you eating better and exercising?
  • I was at 191.5 on Friday, I guess that is my weigh in number.

Today I had pizza, coke, and also cracks on my feet from the dry weather, so no running for me. I thought about having (and bought) some instant noodles too, but I left them sit, luckily.
  • Still the same weight, i've been hitting the gym more this week though. So hopefully will see some improvement next week.

I am so why don't you stop guessing and just not say anything hm?

I'm eating better and watching my calories...I haven't started exercising yet but most of the days I'm under my limit of calories so I shouldn't be gaining...even if I don't move around.

The body is a mystery. Every body is different.

It seems if you are dieting and watching calories and still gaining your calorie limit might be too high. How many calories are you allowing yourself? And also don't get hung up on calories, keep an eye on fat content as well and high sugars.

1200 calories of healthy fruits/veggies/carbs is different than 1200 of cookies/soda/ and other junk. (I am NOT saying this is you)

Also some people just NEED to exercise or nothing happens. It's unfortunate but some people's bodies are stubborn like that.

Twarwick that was cold man lol

Also, depending on which week it is I'm guessing you retain water for a few days which may also factor into it.

Keep at it, I'm sure it'll start coming off eventually.

Based off of my weight and height the app said 2050 calories per day. And even with that I'm feeling very hungry and tired all the time. Not to mention a bit dizzy the last few days. When I was eating without any care I never felt like this so somethings wrong I guess.

But if at 2050 calories I'm supposed to lose a pound a week, if I eat more then that to take away that dizzyness and hunger I'll gain weight...more so I guess?

  • Depends on what the makeup of that 2050 calories is. I would make sure that includes 100 grams of protein; it'll help stave off the hungry feeling.

Protein = any meat right? Chicken, pork, beef, elk...that sort of thing?

That and nuts, some beans, dairy, etc.

Also, a hard number of calories may not be right for your long term goals.   You may be better served making a food journal of your typical week's intake, and then just trim a few items off.   Then the next week trim a few more.

No idea what you're used to, just going to use something arbitrary like 4000 calories for example.   You're better off going from 4000 one week to 3500 the next week (or even 3800) rather than trying to chop that instantly to 2000 and being miserable.

Eventually you'll end up at 2000 and it won't feel out of the ordinary.

I'd figure in my eating I'd get about that much. My normal day looks like this

Breakfast - Skip it or have a glass of orange juice since I can't eat early or I get sick.

Lunch - Turkey and low fat chedder cheese on a roll, with light chicken noodle soup, or rice and curry with veggies

Dinner - Homemade dinners (I usually look up the calories online) with a cup of veggies

Drinks - Mt. Dew (trying to cut down still), half tea-half lemonade, sometimes water with flavoring.

Snacks - If I have enough calories left I'll get a bowl of sherbat, or a handful of pretzels, or a small whatever thats within my leftover calories.

I mean the only bad thing I have is Mt Dew. I'm not stuffing my face with chips and chocolate. So why the hell am I gaining weight if I eat low fat stuff?

Not sure if you saw my edit; I added some more info above that may be helpful.   Your current food intake might be too shocking for your body to handle (might be contributing to your dizziness?)   Not sure how many Dews you normally consumed, but instead of counting those in your calorie count for now just have like a can less per day (so if you have 4 per day normally, have 3 every day instead) and then try to knock that down every couple weeks.

Do you like milk at all?   That might be something better to have for breakfast if you can't hack eating anything that early.

  • Are any of you using a Fitbit at all to track steps, calories, etc? Thinking about getting my wife and I each one for our anniversary this coming week.

I have no idea how many calories I took in most days...I have been eating more veggies and lower fat options but on a whole my diet has stayed the same. I might have been taking in maybe 3000? So dropping to 2050 isn't that big of a shock for my system I would think.

I usually have 3 dews a day...I've been trying to drink more tea and water. Replacing the dew sort of...

Also yeah I like milk but it has to be lactose free and even then I can only have x amount or I start getting stomach aches. I'd think orange juice would be better for you then milk? Or are you going by protein?
