Can NA Beat Every GameBoy Game in a Year? - 2015

Well, we got a little closer in 2014 than we did in 2013. We completed 132/506 games (26.09%). Our primary goal again this year is of course to complete all 506 games. This year, just like last year, we also have a secondary and tertiary goal. The secondary goal is to complete more games than we did in 2014. The tertiary goal is for someone to beat more games than our top contributor of 2014. In 2014 PekoTAS was our top contributor, beating 31 titles! This year I am also adding a 4th goal; beating all 73 of the PAL exclusives. So without further ado, let's get to it!

Rules:

You must have started the game no earlier than January 1, 2014
No cheats or level selects
Emulators are A-OK, no save states or other tricks though
Photo's are not required, but if you can take them please do
Anything that I haven't covered that is already covered in the other 2014 Beat threads

Any questions that arise as to what constitutes beating an individual game will be dealt with on a game to game basis. Most games should have an end game or credits screen. This list is of GameBoy games only, no GBC or GBA. Good luck everyone!

Alleyway is beaten. I'm working on Sword of Hope 2 now, but will tackle some shorter games too.

It's good to see the PAL games included. I have a few of these, so will try to help out with that goal.

I just beat Kirby's Dreamland for the first time. Very nice game. I will definitely play the second one in the coming days.

Awesome idea to include the PAL games! However, it looks like the list you used is a bit outdated, as I can see some missing games and a couple (like Yannick Noah Tennis) that are known clones/sprite swaps of US games. There's a more current list in the first post here:

What are the completion requirements for Gameboy Gallery from the PAL list? I can't find much info about the game, and it doesn't seem to include the unlockables of the Game and Watch Gallery.

Oh, and Solar Striker is also done. I was able to beat it after a few attempts, and actually did better than last time, finishing the game with 2 lives left. The final boss is ridiculously easy.

I'm making progress with Sword of Hope 2. I should have it completed within a week. I've also started to tackle Boxxle in when I need a break. My plan is to try to beat some of the longer games this year.

Sorry about the delay in updating. I busted my laptop screen on Sunday. As far as completion requirements for that game, I'll take a look into it and see if we can figure something out.

I've began work on Link's Awakening and I'm thinking about doing the Nuzlocke Challenge for Pokemon Red.

After watching a couple videos on YouTube of this game I would honestly say just get any score on the A and B versions of every game and that will count as completing it. It appears to be a very simplistic game with no unlockables whatsoever.

In that case, Game Boy Gallery is done - the first game from the PAL list.

As you can see from the screenshots, I'm much better at some games than others. And I HATE Flag Man.

So I played a game of Lingo and beat the computer in the main round. I chose to go to the No Lingo bonus round, solved a puzzle, but got hit with 5 in a row (which is bad in the bonus round), and got a GAME OVER.

Then I played another game, beat the CPU, and didn't go to the No Lingo round...and got an immediate GAME OVER.

Unless there's some score-based benchmark that has to be reached, I guess I beat it?

EDIT: I played some some more, won a couple rounds of No Lingo, and made it to the middle of the high score table. If necessary I could try to reach the top, though it's heavily luck-dependent.

Pop Up is the same thing as Cool Ball, just a different name. So when you beat Pop Up we will just cross off Cool Ball.

Adventure Island II, Monopoly, and Super Chase HQ are done.

I'm not sure if it counts as beating it, but in Battlezone/Super Breakout, I got the high score in Battlezone and I beat the stage (there seems to be only one repeating stage and no high score screen) in Super Breakout.

cool ball / pop up completed in 1:26:05. the last levels really mess with your hand eye co-ordination and it is really easy to mess up. also the game doesnt show you where the exit is untill you have collected what is required! i recorded it on my computer but there is no sound and it is sooo long so i dont think i will upload it.

i did however use the level select for a level i had already gotten to because i ran out of lives, does this still count? it's just the same as using a continue

Yup, it is -- that's exactly why it's not on my list of PAL exclusives. So if someone wants to beat MM instead of BBCC, I think that would work.

Fortified Zone is cleared for another year. It remains one of my favourite games on the gameboy. Photos to follow at some point.
