Yesterday I finished Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on the WiiU.
I really liked it. The game has a very nice lenght, it isn't extremely short and it you can spend a few more hours with it after you finish it if you want to do everything. The gameplay is a bit simple but really fun and it doesn't get repetitive. The graphics are amazing.
And today I finished Ultimate Spider-Man on the PS2.
I remember playing it a bit when I was younger but never finished. This year I got a new copy and decided to give it a try this weekend. I had fun with the game but the chase sequences were more frequent than I wished and it got a bit repetitive and boring. The visuals are very good for a PS2 game, the gameplay is cool and the music is good as well. I just wished the story was better and the volume on the cutscenes were higher but playing as Venom was very fun.
Just finished Terranigma, got everything in the game except for one of the stupid special weapons that I missed because I failed to trigger some event at the beginning of the game and was unable to backtrack. This concludes the Soul Blazer trilogy for me.
I felt pretty meh about this whole game. I think it's the weakest entry in the series. I felt like the writing was sloppy and the gameplay was shallow, and the game just seemed like it spread itself too thin, despite only taking less than 20 hours to beat. That said, the graphics and sound were both amazing. The core mechanics were good, but the game failed to do anything really interesting with them. As an example, magic is utterly pointless for 99% of the game, since most enemies are so easily dispatched with regular attacks. The only time I needed magic at all was in the fight with Bloody Mary, which was such a ridiculously hard fight that I had to just spam Elec Rings to win. Both Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia had more rewarding gameplay than Terranigma. This is a rare instance where I really don't get the mainstream consensus. I would give the game a 7/10 at most.
Just beat LoZ: Ocarina of Time on the 3DS. Awesome game, nothing really needs to be said. 10/10.
I got everything in the game except for all of the Gold Skulltulas. I swear there is some rare bug that is preventing me from getting all the tokens from Death Mountain. I followed a video to be sure I wasn't missing any, but the map is still missing the completion icon for Death Mountain. I couldn't get the big wallet as a result
Not my first time through this game, but it is one of my favorites. I think I last played through it in 2011. I got all the possible characters, choosing Valeria, Feather and Sigfried as my optional character recruits. McDohl was also playable and I got the best ending.
3. Incredible Crisis - PS1
Not my first time through this game either, but it was still pretty funny. I seemed to have an easier time through it than before and didn't even use a rapid fire controller this time. Even though I hadn't played it for a few years.
4. Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus - PS1
This was my first time getting through the entire game without using the level skip code in tough sections and I actually managed to save all 300 Mudokons.
5. The Legend of Dragoon - PS1
This was my first time getting through the game without using Gameshark. I had only played through the game once before but had used Gameshark back then. The difference is using Gameshark back then, I got through it in 3 days playing all day. With no cheats I spent 6 weeks or so playing. I grinded until I had 3 Ultimate Wargods (allows a character to successfully perform addition attacks automatically with no need to press buttons), 3 Legend Casques (greatly boosts magic defense) and 3 Armors of Legend (greatly boosts physical defense.) and then just swapped them over to whoever was in my party at any give time. That's a total of an optional 90,000 gold spent on extreme items in a game where the most gold most enemies will drop from a single battle (excluding bosses) is just over 100. Yeah, it's a long grind. Not only that, this is one of the few games where you have to swap previous discs back in to enter some of the earlier towns where these expensive items are sold. Anyway, I even beat all the optional bosses (there are 6 total).
I finally beat Super Mario Bros 2. I'm not sure why but I never got too into it as a kid. It was good, really good. I think I've been underrating it all these years.
I also beat R: Racing Evolution which wasn't too great. I knew it was average at best but I like the Ridge Racer series. The only thing actually enjoyable was the music though so I'm glad I skipped it when it came out.
Finally I beat Fallout: New Vegas which was just awesome. I found Fallout 3 incredibly boring so I was hesitant about playing this but since it was on sale on Steam and it's by Obsidian I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did! Not having to use the VATS system was a god send.
I cleared Strike Gunner STG (SNES) on the hardest difficulty, called "Otaku" in the Japanese version. Took a lot of time to figure out the best weapon set for each stage. In some ways one of the hardest games I've ever played, since certain weapon sets on some levels basically result in a dead-end hopeless run.
Just beat Batman on the NES! Very challenging and fun game. Probably spent a solid 3 hours on the last level - the fight with The Joker is one of the toughest boss fights I've encountered on the NES. Finally beat him with half my life bar remaining, feel pretty good about that. I would say this is the hardest game I've beaten on the NES after Adventure Island I, Ninja Gaiden 1-3 and Castlevania I and III.
Now I have to go and watch the original Batman again. "Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?!"
Beat Double Dragon 2 a few nights ago and Terranigma last night for the first time. Terranigma was really fantastic. One of my top 10 SNES games for sure.
Just beat Deja Vu! Pretty cool game, it's got me psyched to play some other Kemco point-and-click games. I think Shadowgate will be next, then Uninvited. The story was surprisingly gritty and complex for an NES game, although it could have used a little more action. Good game overall.
I finally got a TurboGrafx-16 system again and actually took the time to play this game, completing it for the first time. Really it is an easy platformer considering you have unlimited continues. All it comes down to after that is trial and error as not to fall into the spike pits which kill you.
I managed to play this one all the way through from Level 0 to Level 9 where the pace is so fast it is pretty much impossible to keep up. According to the back of the box, there are only 10 stages so this means counting 0 Level 9 is the final stage. I consider it done.
8. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - SNES
For what they consider a beginner's RPG there are still a few somewhat challenging boss fights, but the ability to keep re-trying any fight you lose makes it much easier than most games in the genre. Not a bad little game.
edit: updated on 11/12. This list will be a fraction of this size next year...
NES
Jaws - beat it in about 20 minutes. Must of remembered the overview of how to play through it from AVGN or something...
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom - my wife's favorite childhood game. We beat it together in one sitting (she had had no idea there was an inventory screen)
DuckTales - finished with about $8,500,000 which probably isn't great.
SNES
Actraiser - first time I'd played it. Was addicted from beginning to end. The only part that gave me any real trouble was the boss rush
Adventures of Kid Kleats - the game seemed broken, until I realized you could press a button to your retrieve your ball (I didn't figure this out until the third continue... DOH). After that it was a breeze.
Alien Vs. Predator - cheesed the entire game with the laser (and occasionally the slide kick)
American Tail: Fievel Goes West - one of the easiest games on the system, with laughably easy bosses. Fun game though
Ardy Lightfoot - very strange platformer (I have no idea what is going on in the story that involves, pirates, Indiana Jones, mining, and whatever else)
Arkanoid - credits roll after levels 66 and 99. Wasn't too bad; I was expecting worse based on the NES version's reputation
Axelay (on easy) - loved it, some day I'll be brave enough to try and learn it on medium
Barbie Super Model - 5 minutes long but still frustrating
Batman Returns - fun, super easy. Nearly beat it on one attempt (without knowing how to do the ultimate move), easily cleared it on the second. Just stick close to Cat Woman and work here vertically
Battle Blaze - I literally just bashed on Y the entire time, and easily cleared the game in 5 minutes. Completely unbalanced in every way
Battletoads Double Dragon - use the dash kick. Always.
Biker Mice From Mars - fun Rock n Roll Racing style game. Very easy
The Blues Brothers - very easy, and surprising decent
Bomberman B-Daman - sucked
Bonkers - very short, very easy. Not sure why this is so overlooked, I'd rather play this than Magical Quest
Brainlord- took me months
Bram Stoker's Dracula - beat on easy, then realized you have to play on medium to see the full game. Both were reasonably easy
Brandish - loved it. Put in 18 hours in less than a week
Brawl Brothers - surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Final boss was frustrating and unfun though
Bronkie the Bronchiasaurus - just terrible. And extremely easy, besides one boss who was so much harder than the rest of the game it was absurd
Bubsy -played through this twice as a child. If it wasn't for the projectiles everywhere that one-shot you, it wouldn't be completely terrible
Cacoma Knight - took me about a million attempts, but I was hooked and didn't mind
Captain Novolin -it took me 3 attempts before I realized you (technically) had an attack
Chester Cheetah - very short, very easy. Blase platformer, though the mine cart level is kind of cool
Clayfighter - fighting games are dumb. Last boss was somehow the easiest opponent
Cool Spot - fun, easy, and short. Beat it on my first attempt
Cybernator - took me 5 tries. Great game and actually really easy once you have the levels learned
D-Force - just dreadful
Demon's Crest - loved every minute of it. Haven't attempted the final, final (secret) boss yet
Double Dragon V - sucks. Cheesed every guy with the same combo of jump and sword attacks
Death and Return of Superman - maybe I just suck at beat-em-ups, but I feel like this would be impossible without unlimited continues. Poor pseudo-sequel to Batman Returns
Demolition Man - suprisingly not terrible. The first fight with Phoenix is super obtuse though
Dino City - very fun, suprising hard. I didn't realize until the end that character two has a ranged attack. Probably would of made a big difference.
Dragon View - super easy but super fun
Earthworm Jim - beat on Easy earlier this year (with 1-up cheats to help me on that last levels trial-and-error'ness), and then again on Medium, with no lives remaining at the end
Earthworm Jim 2 - beat this all the time as a kid. So much easier than the first
EVO - fun, if you don't mind some grinding and uneven boss fights
F1 Roc II - one of the platform's sleepers. Any fan of F-Zero needs this
Fatal Fury 2 - less annoying than most of the fighters I've beat/attempted
Firestriker - Arkanoid meets (very) light RPG elements. Super short and easy, but fun
First Samurai - you can tell this was a PC (or maybe Amiga) port. Collect crap, and then make for the exit.
The Flintstones: Treasure of Sierra Madrock - beat it in one sitting. Fun platformer slash... board game...
Goof Troop - beat it with my wife
GunForce - plays like the demo of the beta of Metal Slug
Harvest Moon (started in 2014) - second half of the game is such a drag. As a kid I never even bothered.
The Hunt for Red October - I actually like this game. Has nothing to do with the license, think In the Hunt
The Ignition Factor - pretty fun. Not sure why the Firemen is such a cult hit and this is completely unknown
Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures (on easy) - a million times easier than the Star Wars games. Plus the final boss is Julian Glover's skeleton
Inspector Gadget - Hudson games are sweet
The Jetsons Invasion of the Planet Pirates - Taito games are fun
Kirby Superstar (started in 2014) - meh. It's Kirby, with gimmicks
Lagoon - I don't even want to talk about it.
The Lost Vikings - fun game, and one of the funniest on the system. The last 5-6 levels were pretty brutal though. I think I reached 20 fails on one of them
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (started in 2014) - played through most of it with the wife. The sections where you have to grind money are super annoying though
Mario is Missing? - tedium the game
Mario's Time Machine - barely a game. And who the hell came up with the jet ski portion?
Mario's Fun with Letters - yep
Mario's Fun with Numbers - yep
Mario's Preschool Adventure - yep
Marvel Super Heroes War of the Gems - easier than X-Men. I couldn't get anywhere with this as a kid, not sure when something clicked. Just use Iron Man like 90% of the time
The Mask - not bad for a licensed game. Some dumb boss fights though
Math Blaster - the best edutainment game on the system, since this one actually has gameplay
Mickey Mania - the best Mickey game on the system
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie - very easy, pretty fun. The snowboarding level is dumb though
Musya - not as bad as its reputation. If you can get over the character's slow walk, there is fun to be had
NBA All-Star Challenge - a basketball game without basketball
On the Ball - the last levels are devious
Out of this World - great game, 2nd playthrough in 2 years
Pitfall the Mayan Adventure - short and sweet. Love the use of multiple paths layered on one another
Pocky and Rocky (on easy) - awesome game, final boss is annoying as hell though
Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday - beat it on my first try. Bosses are laughably easy
Power Moves - super frustrating getting used to the mechanics. Just grind the first opponent or two until your stats are up, and then abuse the same few attacks throughout the game
Primal Rage - beat it in 5 minutes
Rival Turf - slightly inferior to its sequels, but still fun
Robotrek - fun RPG with a bit of an initial learning curve. Some of the gameplay systems are also a bit obtuse
R-Type III - awesome game, awesome series. The hardest game I've beaten on the system
Saturday Night Slammasters - a brawler crammed into a fighting game
Skyblazer - another one of the most underrated titles on the system. Too short and easy though
Smartball - mediocre platformer, with frustrating mechanics
Snow White - super easy platformer based on the (non-Disney) movie from the '90s
Sonic Blastman - I still don't understand the 2nd to last boss
Spanky's Quest - deceptively hard puzzle platformer. The last couple sets of levels are no joke
Stone Protectors - by far the easiest brawler on the platform. Finished on one credit with some huge number of lives left
Street Racer - superior to Super Mario Kart
Super Aquatic Games - don't even bother trying to beat this blind. Buy the manual or consult the online guide as most of the events are super obtuse
Super Adventure Island - took me 2-3 attempts. I got stymied on the final boss and cheated with a video guide
Super Bomberman 2 - puzzle'y campaign
Super Bomberman 3 - versus'y campaign
Super Bonk - f#$k that secton of the final level with the spikes.
Super Buster Bros. - the levels are different on each difficulty mode. Someday I'll tackle hard with the wife
Super Double Dragon IV - not as bad as its reputation. Counter and dodge vertically
Super Ghouls n Ghosts - most of the game is actually relatively easy (unlimited continues + permanent checkpoints). The 2nd run of level 7 is straight out of hell though.
Super Turrican - not as good as the sequel, and way easier. That damn train level though...
Super Turrican 2 - awesome shooter rivalling Contra 3 in some ways. Again really easy once you have the levels learned (I beat it with a continue left on medium, after 20+ years I still can't beat Contra 3 on easy)
Super Valis IV - final level took about 100 tries
Suzuka 8 Hours - I didn't realize until the end that I was struggling with the controls because my d-pad was messed up. The fact I still beat it easily is telling of the game's lack of difficulty
Timon and Pumba's Jungle Games - the worst game of pinball I've ever played
Tiny Toons Adventures Buster Busts Loose - the 2nd level is by far the hardest in the game
Tiny Toons Adventures Wacky Sports Challenge - tons of events, the best track and field game I've played
Thomas the Tank Engine - 5 minutes of mini-games
The Tick - agonizing. Kill the same re-skinned enemies with one button for 3 hours over 40 levels, mixed up with half a dozen platforming levels with super sluggish controls
True Lies - a single player Soldiers of Fortune
Tuff E Nuff (on easy) - f#$k this game
Ultimate Fighter - the strangest game on the system? Its a brawler fighter with bizarre mechanics
Urban Strike - exponentially easier than its precursors
Wayne's World - not as bad as its reputation (but not good). At least its actually playable and beatable
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego - use basic geography and history 101 (with some out of left-field stuff. San Marino is known for postage stamps? wtf) to move around a map for 10-15 minutes. Now do that 30 times.
Wild Guns - final boss is trivial if you get the counter power-up
X-Men Mutant Apocalypse - harder than War of the Gems since you have to manage your roster to beat Magneto at the end)
Xardion - short and sweet
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys - short and sweet. Just grind away on the dive-bombing birds
N64
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - wow is this unpolished. Sluggish, and bad trick mappings
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - amazing game. Had 100% gaps hit back on PS1 a million years ago
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - downgrade from 2
Game Boy
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - think it took me 3 tries
3DS
Etrian Odyssey Untold - loved it
Etrian Odyssey IV - kind of burned out on the formula by the end (the games played nearly identically), but still great
The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages - one of the more difficult Zelda games I've ever played through
Mario Kart 7 - I think I actually prefer Mario Kart DS
Paper Mario Sticker Star - meh, not as bad as people make it out to be, but not that great
Pilotwings Resort - I had a great time with it, and it only cost $5
Shin Megami Tensei IV - cleared the Neutral path. Final party was a rotation of Fafnir, Seth, Mazakado, Cherub, and Mayamurhyi (sp). Beelezbub was way harder than any of the final bosses
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor Overclocked - did New Game+ to go through the neutral path. Game was a breeze up until the very last mission
Theatrythm - worked through the Expert difficulty
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - much less annoying to replay through than 999
DS
Metroid Prime Hunters - not sure why I thought this was supposed to be poor and put it off until now. It's Metroid Prime on a handheld
Sonic the Hedgehog - meh
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - fun, much better than the first
This thread is making me realize how few games I've actually finished this year. Started a bunch! I know I beat Kirby's Dream Land, all 10-ish minutes of it. Oh! And I replayed Yoshi's Island.
Need to work on finishing the 10+ other games I've started. I sunk a lot of time into Ocarina of Time early in the year, but, as with every time I start it, I got kind of bored/frustrated with it and didn't finish.
I finally completed this game with all bonuses done, all DK coins collected and all time trials done for 103% completion. I have to say it was a bit easier than Donkey Kong Land 2 and more enjoyable.
I'll have to think back on what I have beaten so far this year. I did beat Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball today. Took me forever. Definitely not one of my favorite baseball games.
Last week I beat Bucky O'Hare although it took me about a billion continues. A very quality game!
I FINALLY legitimately beat Ninja Gaiden on the NES today. No cheats, no save states, no Game Genie. I've been wanting to do that for over 20 years, and I've been obsessed with it lately. I could never finish it when I was a kid. Getting kicked all the way back to 6-1 is just brutal when you die on the last boss.
Beat the Wacky Racers for NES yesterday: as gameplay mechanics goes nothing wrong but the game itself is too easy and pretty boring. I wanted to turn it off but completed if just for the sake of it.
Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3 (consecutively in under 60 minutes), Addams' Family, Captain Skyhawk, and Tiny Toons 1. I got SO close to conquering Adventure Island 2... ugh that still hurts.

It was hard but very addictive. I am probably going to attempt a no warps run soon, while its still fresh in my memory.

I'm not even dreaming about warpless at this point. I wish I wasn't such a completionist, as I actually loathe the game...

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - fun, much better than the first
360
Beyond Good & Evil HD - stood the test of time
Need to work on finishing the 10+ other games I've started.
Last week I beat Bucky O'Hare although it took me about a billion continues. A very quality game!
