  • Figured I'd bump halfway through the year. As always the first post contains my list so far with details, but here's the short version of what I beat for the first time:

Dead Space 2, Castlevania OoE, Radiant Historia, Infamous Second Son/First Light, Spec Ops The Line, Sly Cooper, Metroid Prime, Folklore, 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, The Order: 1886, Majora's Mask 3D, Persona 4 Golden, Ys Memories of Celceta, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, Ghost Trick, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Splatoon, The Witcher 3, Phoenix Wright, SMT: Digital Devil Saga

Despite a month+ gap of not finishing games, I still played a ton of stuff across all kinds of genres, some new to me. My favorites this year so far: Radiant Historia, P4G, 999, Klonoa, Splatoon, Metroid Prime. Honorable mentions to ME 2 and Witcher 3, though I expected better from those 2.

Only games I didn't like were The Order and Mass Effect 1
  • Since my last update I've tackled the following...

    - Demon's Crest (SNES) - Played for the first time in March and beat the same day. Thought it was great but way too short.

    - Dead Space 2 (PS3) - Played for the first time in April and it was a pretty good game. Frustrating at times but overall it was worth playing.

    - Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS) - It's been 15 years since I played the N64 version and actually replaying this on 3DS kind of disappointed me. I remembered it being so much better. Easily one of my least game Zelda games.

    - God of War HD (PS3) - Played the original for the first time since 2005 or so and it was really great. I even managed to get a platinum trophy for it (3rd game I've platinumed on PS3). I started GoW2 but I felt a bit burnt out after playing through GoW twice in a row due to a regular playthrough and a speed run.

    - Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (GB) - Really really fantastic game. In the last two weeks I started getting into collecting Game Boy, which is coming along slowly but I am having a blast doing it. This was one of my favorite Game Boy games as a kid and I'm happy to report it holds up very well and is in fact one of my favorite Mario games in general (well, top 5 at least).

    - Toad's Treasure Tracker (Wii U) - A really great game that was a perfect challenge and a lot of fun. Probably one of my favorite Wii U games.

    - Splatoon (Wii U) - Not sure I "beat" this game but I did finish the single player campaign. Really surprisingly fun game. I haven't played too much online multiplayer since that aspect can get boring if I play too much but in small doses it's absolutely a blast. Easily one of the most fun Wii U games.

    Currently playing:

    - Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (GBC) - One of my all time favorite games, my first Zelda game ever, and my 2nd favorite Zelda game overall (Wind Waker is #1). It holds up extremely well. I'm about 90% complete at this moment.

    - Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (Wii U) - Playing this for the first time in over a decade. My all time favorite Zelda. It definitely holds up extremely well. I'm about 50% done with it.
  • I had a first-time completion the other day: Zen Intergalactic Ninja on NES. I had always wanted to play this game but never got around to picking up a copy until now, and god did I fall in love with it. Already has to be in my top 20, and I'm currently learning to speedrun it. 19:22 is my PB at the moment but I can shave a few minutes off of that just by minimizing mistakes.
  • Wow, this has been a slow year for me beating games! I need to pick up the pace. Batman has been looming for too long. Not sure if I want to try returning to Legend of Zelda just yet.

I beat Legacy of the Wizard and Gumshoe for the "Beat every game in a year" thread.

I talked about doing a warpless run on Battletoads... didn't finish it yet, but I made it as far as level 12, and can finally say I've beaten every level (just not all in the same run)

    I beat Castlevania

Last night, I just beat Raiders of the Lost Ark for the 2600. I had to use a strategy guide. I don't know how anyone could ever figure that game out on their own. Way too cryptic!
  • Gaming has taken the back burner lately, my wife just recently had surgery so I have had to help her out quite a bit but now she is back on a normal schedule with work and everything which means I will have some more time again.

I plan on playing Rainbow Islands again, I have never beat it but been playing for nearly 15 years and my wife just bought me Animal Crossing New Leaf
  • Zelda II has been added to the list as of last night!
  • I recently beat Eggerland: Meikyuu no Fukkatsu on Famicom. It took me 4 months of playing intermittently to finish the entire game but I really enjoyed it. I wish we had gotten an Eggerland game in the US but it was nice for me to finally experience one of the games in the series now.
  • Since my last update in July I've played...

    - Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX - One of my favorite games in the series, a great classic to revisit.

    - God of War HD - Platinumed this game, my third platinum trophy ever. Fantastic game, played it 3 times this year alone for the trophy. Didn't mind doing it because it's so excellent. Played it originally in 2005 but thought it was time to revisit.

    - God of War 2 HD - Great follow-up to the original, this was my first time playing it and was not disappointed.

    - God of War 3 - Found this to be slightly disappointing compared to 1 & 2 but still a great game. I played it immediately after I finished 2 and just finished up last night.

    - Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash - Not a terrible game but a mediocre one at best. Really did not enjoy this game that much. Probably will never play it again.

    - Yoshi's Woolly World - Fantastic game, did not 100% it yet but will work on that soon. Really just an amazing follow up to one of my favorite games ever - Yoshi's Island. Far better than any other Yoshi's Island sequel. Very creative and fun. Well worth the wait!

    Currently Playing:

    - El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (PS3) - Didn't start this game yet but after finishing GoW3 this will be my next PS3 adventure.

    - Legend of Zelda: TriForce Heroes - Just got this two days ago, currently playing through in single player mode. Honestly not finding it to be too bad so far. Nowhere near the best Zelda game but I actually find it pretty fun.

    - Yo-Kai Watch - Fun game, played a few hours so far, got distracted by TriForce Heroes, will go back to it after that.
