is there a way to play PAL games on US genesis?
is there a way to play PAL games on a US genesis without modding it? if so, will it play properly? i'm a confirmed dumbshit when it comes to hertz, import games, and the differences between US and PAL consoles.

The latter means that you definitely won't run into any issues. My copy of Davis Cup Tennis is PAL, for example, and it works perfectly because the ROM is identical to the US release.
Separate (U) and (E) ROMs may mean the game was released in the US and separately optimized for PAL, and will run too fast when played on US hardware. But that's not always true, since the majority of devs were too lazy to optimize for PAL.
Some PAL games won't run properly even if you bypass the lockout. Smurfs 2 eventually crashes, the cricket games and Super Skidmarks roll the screen, Worms has sound glitches, etc.
And you can't save through a Game Genie, so Soleil (the EU version of Crusader of Centy) won't save properly, since it requires a bypass code. The only way to play it and be able to save is a region mod or a different bypass cart (I think a Megakey will work).

Depends on the game. If it has region lockout, you'll need a Game Genie and a code to defeat the lockout; there's a list here. If it doesn't, you can just pop it right in. It also helps to check if the ROM for the game is (U) or (UE).

Ha, thanks! Now say something risqué so we can make Steve Harvey pretend to be scandalized:

Answer: Cut the cardboard and place it in a clam shell case.

thanks. the link you posted is not working, though. so if there is no game genie code for the game i bought, i won't be able to play it unless i get a system mod? the game in question is xenon 2.

Link fixed! There's a code for Xenon 2, so you're in luck. Actually, at the moment I don't know of any PAL games with lockout that don't have a code.
how does a game genie work? I read this on the link you posted:
Also, don't use the codes until confirming that the game won't play without
them. While some codes remove the region lock entirely, others will just swap
the compatibility making the game play on hardware it ordinarily is not
compatible with but at the same time making it incompatible with the
originally compatible hardware.
does the game genie permanently alter the "game?"

To my knowledge know. It should just insert code that your system is reading as it plays as code comes from the game through the genie and into the system. Just seems like logic to me, but if I'm wrong please tell me. If it were the case then region unlocking your game would happen once, however you have to use the genie each time.
