Oh man. Your first time in Vegas. There are so many things to tell you. No one could possibly fully prepare you for it.  Plus, you'll not remember it all anyway... lol

    - If you don't have other transportation lined up, and assuming you're staying close to the strip, use the Monorail. You can get discounts for multi-day pass purchases (or you used to). Note that the passes last for X days, but that SHOULD start from the time when you purchased it (check that site out). There's also a double-decker bus in town called "The Deuce"...

    - Google around and find out what events are happening in town when you'll be there. Vegas attracts a lot of different events and you might find one interesting or like the crowd (or want to completely avoid it!).

    - The "old strip" / Freemont Street is worth visiting. They have the "Freemont Street experience", which is mostly an overhead video experience. I think it's a cool area and has many of the original casions. These casinos still use coins, which is a neat and probably won't last forever. All of the newer casinos on Las Vegas Blvd (the new strip) use a modern ticket system that prints vouchers.

    - The buffet at the Golden Nugget on Freemont Street is really good (IMHO). It's not the most diverse, but the quality is there. I believe it may be a bit cheaper.

    - When you check in to your hotel, ask them if they have any coupon books or know of any specials, events, etc. If you plan on gambling a lot, you may want to consider getting a membership card. Some casinos that share common owner ship (like Excalibur / Luxor / MGM Grand) have one card for all of their hotels. You "earn" points by spending... ask about what you can get and how many points you need. That free buffet or t-shirt may come in handy the DAY BEFORE you leave (not the day of... never works out with timing!)

    - Watch out when entering hotels for folks that invite you to hear about free things... they want you to sign up to go to time share meetings, etc... They often ask you if you're checking in as you enter. Unless they want to carry your bags, watch out (it's annoying).

    - You can't legally drink alcohol in open containers on public streets except on Freemont Street and Las Vegas Blvd (the strip)

    - Keep your eyes on your money, wallet, valuables at all times. This sounds like common sense, but there are thieves that lurk in the casinos that are VERY good at what they do. They'll get you distracted and steal your ticket vouchers, money, etc. If you have any issues like this (and I really hope that you don't!), contact casino security, They'll help you out, especially if you're a guest in their hotel.

    - Buy beer at the gas station, CVS, Walgreens, or similar and take it back to your room and store it on ice from the ice machine. You _should_ find "free" drinks on the casion floor if you're gambling and find a good barista (and give her a few dollars here and there). Everything else is more expensive.

I could go on, but I won't I hope that you find this info useful. If you want to hear more, PM me

    Most importantly: ENJOY YOURSELF!

  • I just took my first trip to Vegas Oct 2014. Just turned 30 last year and thought I had my shit together.

Yeah.... I was wrong and Vegas got the best of me. Had probably the best time of my life, but it's so wild out there you forget you're in the USA.

Enjoy your time out there. I sold one of my pinball machines to fund my trip out there.
  • I was planning on using Uber for local travel. Thanks for the monorail tip. It should save me some cash.

No problem.  Glad I could help! That's more money for slot machines and tables

  • Luxury Vegas Rides! I rented a Ferrari from them last time I was there, it is pricy but worth every penny (to me at least). Cost me $500 for 6 hours, drove from Vegas out to the Hoover Damn and back in through the desert. Absolutely loved it. Vegas has everything just depends on what you are into. Its a short trip out to red rock canyon which is cool if you like the nature stuff. I recommend a trip out to Hoover Dam however you get out there (first trip probably don't want to do it in a Ferrari or the like as you'll want to get out and walk around and that just wastes precious car time). I'm not a big party or club guy so those were my highlights. You can also check out The Gun Store and go shoot some automatic weapons, might not be a big deal for some, but in some states and all of Canada they are prohibited.
