Bubsy. Another one I hadn't beaten since the '90s, it wouldn't be half bad if they didn't have so many cheap ass deaths from projectiles that you can't see coming
I just cleared Imperium on Hard. Very underrated game and also very hard (possibly one of the hardest on the SNES). There's so many unbelievably cheap bosses and enemies that just spawn behind you, ram into you and then fill the screen with bullets. That and the extremely long levels make this one not for the faint of heart.
Yeah I couldn't even beat the first level the one time I attempted Imperium. Of course I can't even beat Gradius III on easy, so schmups are not my forte
Well, I'm going to say I beat Super Caesar's Palace.
I got over $1 million and access to the high-roller rooms.
There's a hacked version on YouTube where someone got over $9 million and there's no particular ending.
You can leave and get the credits, but it doesn't seem like there's an end.
Also, this game is a piece of crap.
They managed to take the banality of Caesar's Palace for the NES and "Super"-size it.
The highest chip you can use is $500, but the limit on the high-roller blackjack is $50,000 which means if you want to make the max bet, you have to sit there and hit the button ONE HUNDRED TIMES.
On top of that, it's buggy. On double-downs, it gives you a fraction back of what you should get.
Wow, Ozzy was not lying about Lagoon. Terrible boss fights, and a sword that makes the Ys attack look like a claymore
The actual normal gameplay I didn't mind except for the backtracking lead-the-npc-home quest. I played Ys on non-PCE systems and knew the whole "Hit the monster offset" setup, so combat in Lagoon as fine for me. Till I got to the boss and was like "WTF" If you get hit from behind, you pass into the boss and die. And if you stand infront of them, you don't hit them. Almost need to watch some speed runs just to see how to kill them. Or maybe I just need some powerleveling, but it was starting to get slow as-is.
Ogre Battle is done. It was taking too freaking long, so I said screw it. I was going to try to get a good ending with Galf, the demon, and I'm not 100% sure you can, I know you can't get the best ending with him. So I went with the coolest ending, where Galf takes over your body. The "endings" are all just slily diffrent dialogs anyways, and a dull blue skys picture, or a cool red sky pic.
Like I said, I was going for a good ending, and was doing every unneeded map, liberating the towns, doing side quests, but good god that would be forever. So said fuck it, flew my best Lich on a griffin to the headquarters on 3-4 maps, and boom, beat more maps in one day than last week. I also cashed in my one merchent item, and spent all my money on stat items (Didn't have shit for money though, so only got 99 int, 99 str, and 52 hp), I actually over did it, and one party didn't even get used after I raised all their stats.
Last stage, I flew the leader to the base, used a summons item to bring everyone of my units on the map to him (Then a bell on a few and redeloyed them to guard home aginst the close monsters) and let my best team clear the bosses. Tristin, catpiss or whatever his name is, two lichs, and a princess, so I had 7 direct attacks, 10 hit all spells in that one party, everyone with 250+ str or int. So I was WAY overpowered even without completing the side quests.
And here's a pic of my cat somehow crashing my PSP today, that's when I decided to say fuck it:
Since we're running out of (J)RPGs, I'll just let you guys know I was thinking of starting Robotrek in the next day or two. Just to avoid any stepping on toes
Bear with me while I indulge in a little self-inventory:
Failed efforts:
Super Battleship - failed one of the initial missions 3 times. Couldn't figure out how to finish off the larger ship. Will re-visit later
Mortal Kombat - couldn't beat the part where they throw 2 opponents at you. I suck at fighting games.
Tournament Fighters - couldn't beat the first guy! I really suck at fighting games
Pit Fighter - couldn't beat the first guy
Aero the Acrobat - it was hard and it sucked
Doom - holy god are the controls sluggish and the pixels hard to make out. I know I got close to beating it on SNES as a kid
Radical Rex - blah
Izzy's Quest for the Rings - blah
Beavis and Butthead - blah
Adventures of Kid Kleets - blah
Ren and Stimpy Veediots - blah
The Pagemaster - blah
Home Alone 2 - blah
Road Runner - blah
Jungle Strike - couldn't even beat the first level! I swear this was easier when I was a kid
Sim Ant - I could not figure out what was going on
Micro Machines - too much trial and error learning some of the deadlier courses
Top Gear 2 - I suck at this
Out to Lunch - it's been over 20 years and I still can't beat it. I'll never beat it.
Bugs Bunny - I didn't get it. The levels are chaotic
Tecmo Super Bowl - the computer cheats. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? - Over 70 missions? Just kill me.
Last Action Hero - this game is impossible
Space Invaders - does this game even have an ending? I'm not finding out
The Lion King - I'll never understand the mechanics of the hippo tails
Mechwarrior - I've had this game for 20 years and I've never lasted more than 10 seconds in the first mission
Tuff E Nuff - beat on easy, f#$k this game. Someone else has now claimed it, not that I wanted to re-visit it
In progress?
The Lost Vikings - a dozen or so missions in
Stunt Race FX - first cup cleared
Super Off Road - debating whether or not I want to sit through 99 races, especially if the difficulty scales at all
Rocky Rodent - haven't figured out the damn chili factory boss
Equinox - on the 4th or 5th area. Each one gets progressively bigger and more confusing
Super Turrican 2 - slowly mastering it. I can get to the lava level at this point
Stone Protectors - can get close to the end, some of the bosses are still a puzzle to me
Mechwarrior 3050 - I cannot beat the last boss.
Skuljagger - I don't even remember, the third level maybe? The bosses are annoying as all f#$k
On the Ball - on th final set of levels, which are fiendish
Rampart - this game is either impossible on the larger maps, or luck-dependant. Not sure yet.
Completed, didn't count
Axelay (on easy) - loved it, some day I'll be brave enough to try and learn it on medium
Actraiser - first time I'd played it. Was addicted from beginning to end. The only part that gave me any real trouble was the boss rush. Already claimed by someone else
Bomberman B-Daman (JPN)- sucked
D-Force - just dreadful. Already claimed by someone else
Demon's Crest - loved every minute of it. Haven't attempted the final, final (secret) boss yet. Already claimed by someone else
Goof Troop - beat it with my wife. Already claimed by someone else
Harvest Moon (started in 2014) - second half of the game is such a drag. As a kid I never even bothered with it.
Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures (on easy) - a million times easier than the Star Wars games. Plus the final boss is Julian Glover's skeleton
Kirby Superstar (started in 2014) - meh. It's Kirby, with gimmicks
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (started in 2014) - played through most of it with the wife. The sections where you have to grind money are super annoying though
Pocky and Rocky (on easy) - awesome game, final boss is annoying as hell though
Super Bomberman 3 (JPN) - versus'y campaign
Turtles in Time - first time I ever played through it solo. Already claimed by someone else
X-Men Mutant Apocalypse - harder than War of the Gems since you have to manage your roster to beat Magneto at the end. Already claimed by someone else
Completed
Alien Vs. Predator - cheesed the entire game with the laser (and occasionally the slide kick)
Arkanoid - credits roll after levels 66 and 99. Wasn't too bad; I was expecting worse based on the NES version's reputation
Barbie Super Model - 5 minutes long but still frustrating
Battletoads Double Dragon - use the dash kick. Always.
Brainlord- took me months
Bram Stoker's Dracula - beat on easy, then realized you have to play on medium to see the full game. Both were reasonably easy
Brandish - loved it. Put in 18 hours in less than a week
Bronkie the Bronchiasaurus - just terrible. And extremely easy, besides one boss who was so much harder than the rest of the game it was absurd
Bubsy -played through this twice as a child. If it wasn't for the projectiles everywhere that one-shot you, it wouldn't be completely terrible
Captain Novolin -it took me 3 attempts before I realized you (technically) had an attack
Choplifter III - the boss of the 2nd or 3rd area, I forget, was by far the hardest part of the game
Double Dragon V - sucks. Cheesed every guy with the same combo of jump and sword attacks
Dragon View - super easy but super fun
Earthworm Jim - beat on Easy earlier this year (with 1-up cheats to help me with the last level's trial-and-error'ness), and then again on Medium, with no lives remaining at the end
Earthworm Jim 2 - beat this all the time as a kid. So much easier than the first
Fatal Fury 2 - less annoying than most of the fighters I've beat/attempted
Firestriker - game can beaten in like 30 minutes. I could swear the first time I played through it there wasn't a second figure you could control with L/R, but I'm probably just an idiot.
The Flintstones: Treasure of Sierra Madrock - beat it in one sitting. Fun platformer slash... board game...
Lagoon - I don't even want to talk about it.
Mario's Time Machine - barely a game. And who the hell came up with the jet ski portion?
Marvel Super Heroes War of the Gems - easier than X-Men. I couldn't get anywhere with this as a kid, not sure when something clicked. Just use Iron Man like 90% of the time
Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday - beat it on my first try. Bosses are laughably easy
Skyblazer - I may play through this once a year
Super Aquatic Games - don't even bother trying to beat this blind. Buy the manual or consult the online guide as most of the events are super obtuse
Super Bomberman 2 - puzzle'y campaign
Super Bonk - f#$k that section of the final level with the spikes.
Super Buster Bros. - the levels are different on each difficulty mode. Someday I'll tackle hard with the wife
Super Ghouls n Ghosts - most of the game is actually relatively easy (unlimited continues + permanent checkpoints). The 2nd run of level 7 is straight out of hell though.
Thomas the Tank Engine - 5 minutes of mini-games
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego - use basic geography and history 101, with some out-of-left-field stuff (San Marino is known for postage stamps? Wtf?) in order to move around a map for 10-15 minutes. Now do that 30 times.
Wolfenstein 3D - I think that must of been the first time I played through on medium because I actually had some real difficulty on several of the boss levels
Xardion - short and sweet
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys - short and sweet. Just grind away on the dive-bombing birds
Well, you can pull On the Ball from the beaten list...
Last night I was cruising youtube and found videos of levels that did not look familiar. Yeah, turns out I had only beaten 25% of the game, with the rest accesible via passwords. I've now beaten about 94% of the game, but have yet to master the final few sections of the last one. The "jumping" ones are quite maddening.
I accidently started playing Romance of the three kingdoms III. Have 15-20 kingdoms, just finishing a rest\recover stage before I do a few more pushes to invade others. With my total amount of troops I should be able to take over the map as-is, but I generally play it safe. Too hard to recover from a mistake, and not a very good save system.
I did beat the game in 5 mins of playing it though, I picked the last scenario, and had like 8 players, so I started out with all of china under my control, and just surrendered to myself, so in one month game time I finished taking over all of china. I was going to say we need a rule that games need to be played as single-player only, but if someone beat Contra or Battle Toads in 2 player on nes, I'd still count that, so not sure.
But playing multiplayer as 1 player and giving yourself the resources is cheap any way you look at it. And RottK you could always pick the last scenario and biggest lord and steamroll everything around you.
Sorry for the mixup with super caesar's palace. I got thrown off because Ozzy_98 keeps referring to Vegas Stakes as Vegas Dreams which doesn't exist, and so I tried to guess what game it really was by just looking at the screenshot and surmised that it was actually Super Caesar's Palace, somehow.

Pocky and Rocky 2 is done. The final boss has waaaay too much health and it took forever, but I found out that if you press A to combine with your partner, you become invincible for a few seconds. So you can just abuse that.
One ruler, 4 cities, and two free cities left in RottK 3. I just had a ruled in a city revolt, he has 0 troops and was the only officer in the city. I threatened him, he rejoined me, with twice the loyalty as before.
Yes, my city has a third of a million troops in it. The last city I had to fight had 10k in it. I could only use half my troops (Max of 10 per war command) but yea, was still a hell of an anti-climatic battle., I just set it to computer control. The first time I beat the game I was even more over-powered, cause I remember having 10 sets of maxed troops all with super crossbows, movment of 8 due to moral over 100%, and high war stats. But I know my ruler was 60+ years old.
My wife re-arranged our living room while I was gone, and now my N64 and SNES are temporarily orphaned. Hopefully I'll be back in action by next weekend.
Looks like the pace is pretty good now with Ozzy and WYF in the fold. No reason we can't surpass the 2013 and 2014 totals.
Comments
New Horizons complete!
Super Off Road. Not sure if there is anything beyond maxing out your stats as the races seem to loop forever.
edit: Per WYF's post, consider this one still open.

If it's the same as the NES version, there are 99 races to the ending.
