Super Tennis is done! When you win the last tournament (the "New York Open", i.e. a fake US Open) --
-- you get a credit roll:
But then, if you've won every tournament and are playing as a male player, you get a special exhibition match against the super-fast, powerful Don J -- one of the toughest opponents in any tennis game I've ever played.
However, he does have weaknesses (he double-faults a lot), and I found a way to ace him at least some of the time, so:
Oddly, the PlayStation tennis game V-Tennis does the exact same thing, right down to the infernal red court. Maybe it was meant as a sequel.
Phew! This game has been on my to-do list for years now, but I wasn't sure I could take down Don J so I stayed away. Feels great to finally have it done.
I was actually thinking of playing this one again after I get my recertification done and a nasty nasty cut over of a customers network next weekend. I want to see how it fairs in the modern day where I can get some information on WTF is going on.
I also like stripping my people down to their underwear.
Zero. I went back and got the three that were hidden in the rock's subterranean area. Then I have to brave back to the Barrows Downs or woods, or wherever the hell the other ones are.
The Hunt for Red October. Wow, talk about talking liberties with the source material. Giant squid bosses, underwater super bases...
It actually made the game interesting and pretty fun, with a more Japanese-style design. One of the more pleasant surprises in this mission
I played a bit of this game when I picked it up and actually found it pretty fun. No masterpiece or anything but compared to the NES version this one is amazing.
Also, I finally beat both loops of R-Type III. Took me 2 weeks, mostly practicing on emulators to figure out some of the tricky parts, but I finally did it on real hardware. I still think Super R-Type is much harder and less forgiving, but R-Type III is a much better game and still very challenging on it's own right. I'll post the video once it's uploading.
Arrrrrgh. Reached the final level of Kendo Rage without too many problems, but that one is hard is hell. I hate boss rushes. Beating this may be beyond me
My count could be wrong. On the front page there are 251 beaten games and 469 remaining games, so since 251 + 469 = 720, I guess there are at least 2 unlisted games that are disqualified (dupes or can't be beaten) and are already being counted.
Problem is, I don't know how many dupes/unbeatables there are -- I thought there were 6 for some reason. In 2012 and 2014 we disqualified five of them (DKC comp cart, etc.) but 3 of those have been beaten and the other 2 are still in the list.
In other years we counted the total number of games as 720 (2012 and 2014) or 725 (2013), so I'm not sure how we got 722 as our total -- except that in 2014, we actually did have 722 games but listed them as 720, but this year we have 720 games but count them as 722...?! I have no idea what's going on! Rooster, help?
Different hosts have different lists of what games are duplicates, or unbeatable. For example, I think the last time I ran this thread Timon and Pumba was taken off the list, and things like super mario all stars/world didn't count because they were dupes of multiple other games. Some people count MACS and MATS, but I don't. It gets complicated and also being that I have not played every SNES game, I can't really say which ones are actually unbeatable. You'll always come across random crap like Fun 'n Games.
I just played some space invaders. How are we qualifying "beating" that one? I cleared the first wave, not sure if that counts.
Edit: Cleared first 2 boards. Not really sure what else there is to do in this game except try for a high score. I'm considering it "beaten" since I beleive it loops forever?
Heh, I have a similar question to pegboy's -- what standard are we using for Frogger? I was expecting for it to be a high score challenge, so I made it to Level 8 and got the high score (see screenshot). But apparently if you beat Level 8 the game congratulates you in the between-level message ("Great job! You wrapped the levels!") and loops back to a tougher version of Level 1.
It's very possible to beat Level 8 and not get the high score, so I could see going either way on this.

I would think you'd need to loop it in order to claim victory, especially since it gives you that "Great job" message (which sounds like a quasi-ending to me). Same exact deal with R-Type III that I just beat. You don't even get a congratulations or credits or anything, it's just like "Advanced mission start" now and you have to play through the game again then it just ends with a lame message and no credits.
So yeah, I reached the balrog at the end of LotR, but couldn't beat him due to a bug crippling my MC's attack power. Today I tried to put some more attempts in, only to discover my password (which takes 5 minutes to input) doesn't work That was the last straw. I'm done with it. I'm checking it off my internal list since I basically saw all the content, but I'm not wasting any more time on it for this thread.
I'll upload the pic of my password here in a second if anyone is brave enough to try and finish the game. Maybe you can screw around with characters until it works. Or maybe bronze still has his pass and can do it. Consider it a group "clear"...
Oh, man, I thought I warned you about that? Any password obtained after the moment you enter Moria won't work -- you have to one-shot Moria. Maybe there's a way to get around it by taking advantage of the password bug, but I don't know for sure, and anyway it'd be outside the scope of this challenge.
And yeah, the Aragorn sword bug is nasty, though for some reason I don't think it affected me back in 2013 (or whenever that was).
Sure, post the pic of your password! I probably shouldn't use one of my old ones since we won't be in the same place, but if my wife's up for it we can finish off the game for you.
@pegboy: Yeah, I think you're right. It wouldn't have even crossed my mind (that high score would be the standard) if it weren't an arcade game port, but then again I had no idea there was a loop point until I looked it up, so I went into it assuming high score was the goal.
It's not too hard to reach Level 8 if you're not playing for score, but it's absolutely brutal once you get there.
Yeah I remember you warning me, and I did try to one shot it. The problem is I couldn't get it with my weak Aragorn, so eventually I just ahd to hope the pass would work and turn the system off

Drakkhen is done!

I reached Rivendell in LotR... and then found out I was supposed to be collecting amulets along the way. Without all of them I can't progress
How many amulets are you short?
And yeah, I'm afraid this is the kind of game where you have to systematically check everything and everywhere to get all the items you need.
It really is a decent action platformer, although it did take a bit of getting used to at first. It's definitely worth a playthrough.

Fun 'n Games - Doesn't Count
Imperium
Mario Paint [w/ mouse] - Doesn't Count
Super Bomberman Party Pak separate pack in - CompleteSNES
Super Noah's Ark 3-D - Doesn't Count
It looks like pegboy's clear of Imperium (on May 23) went missing in an edit somewhere along way.
If you add the other four to the list (as non-counting games), all the math works out -- 256 games beaten or irrelevant, and 725 total.

I have a couple other passwords too, just not sure how close to Moria any of them were
