if you started it in 2015 it counts.
I did start it in 2015, so Breath of Fire 2 is beaten!
For the remaining two months, I'll tackle the terrible licensed games, Ozzy you do the Koei titles, bronze can do the sports titles, and everyone else can do the misc. If we just average about 50 titles a man, we should have this in the bag

Oh, gee thanks. But I'm willing to do tennis -- I'll try to get Agassi done by the end of the year, if I can master the mechanics of it -- and next year I may dabble in baseball. I'm useless for football, though, or any team sport that involves kicking a ball.
BTW I read recently that NCAA Basketball has a couple characters who can hit 3-point shots from anywhere, making beating the game trivial.
Well I just went through Suzuka 8 Hours. It was extremely easy and short (it is based on an arcade game). So short that whatever "ending" message I got I accidently blew by. So... not sure if I beat it, or if it did the Konami thing and told me to do longer races or what. And of course there is absolutely nothing on the net to reference. And I'm hesitating to do the longest races because they're like 1 1/2 hours long each on that setting...
Just really took note of this thread yesterday and thought I'd jump in and try to help knock out a few of these titles.
I beat Super Return of the Jedi last night. Normal difficulty, no continues, 10 lives in reserve. It was actually a nice trip down memory lane. Most of the game actually isn't very difficult except for Ewok Village B, which can be a real b*tch thanks to a combination of level design, enemy collision and instant-death pits.
Just beat Lester the Unlikely, a game I used to play quite a bit back in my SNES heyday. I had totally forgotten about how the end credits proclaim, "Watch for Lester, he will be back!"...a promise that I don't believe was ever fulfilled.

Heh, I finally tried this game about 3 months back after wondering about it for some 21 years. I always wanted to like it, as I'm in the minority of people who actually think the idea isn't half bad (a nerd slowly gains skills/confidence as he conquers challenge after challenge). Unfortunately, the gameplay is "off" and the execution is not nearly as nice as the idea or the potential of the idea was.
I rage quit on that one jungle level with the vine swinging BTW. Frustrating controls led to too many cheap deaths over pits. Shame, as with more polish it could have been actually decent.
Funny, that was one of the games I considered giving a whirl last night. How long is it?
For someone who's never really played it before, there is a period of adjustment and trial and error. Because of these factors and limited continues, it's not a game you'll beat on a virgin outing.
But once you've played it enough to know the drill, it's actually a pretty short game. I think it only took me about an hour to beat.

Supposedly, the lead designer was quoted saying something to the effect of "[Lester] was an idea that started out way too ambitious and ends up being only mediocre". I can totally see that.
The biggest barrier to entry in this game, I think, is that most people jump into it expecting a faster-paced, more Mario-style platformer and that's simply not what it does. The controls (which are stiff and clunky, for sure), physics and level design force you to play it in a much more deliberate and methodical way...maybe a bit like Prince of Persia. You're not supposed to leap from high ledges or run recklessly through a stage (except for the "running stages", of course ).
The other problem with the game is that there are simply too many cases of what I tend to call "Mega Man syndrome", where there is an obstacle just off screen (sometimes resulting in instant death) that the player has no chance of predicting or reacting to the first time. This turns several segments of the game into exercises in "trial and error". This isn't a problem on its own but when you combine that element with a limited number of lives/continues, it becomes a game that can feel frustrating until you've memorized the stages.
I actually don't think it's a bad game at all but it does have its frustrations. And while the character and foreground graphics aren't anything special, some of the detailed backgrounds with their multi-layered scrolling are actually pretty beautifully done. Oh...and Princess Tikka is still hot! Every single pixel of her!
If I were grading it, I'd give it a solid C, once you've gotten over the initial learning curve.

I'm on an RPG kick, so after I finish Arcana I'll take out Inindo: Way of the Ninja. I've never actually beat that game, or played much of it, no idea how long it takes. http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=4689 has nothing, and http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/588388-inindo-way-of-the-ninja/... says 50 hours, but then says "That's about average for a snes game". I average 10-15 hours most RPGs though, 2-4 hours a day when I play them, so hope to beat it in a week.
I've always wanted to play through Inindo as well. Let us know how that one goes for you. I've seen many haters for the game but I know a few guys who absolutely swear by it that they really liked it.
Its primitive graphics kinda have a charm all its own, lol.
Arcana is done, that last boss fight was not fun. And you can lose a ton of progress if you die.
I had 3 cards left alive, plus a ton of golden whatevers, so I wasn't hurting too bad, but I did fight her 3 times. Level 35 is not easy to beat her at, or I'm missing something.
Sorry for the images being screencaps, I beat this one on my cell phone, and hard to take a pic of the cell phone with itself. And I was too lazy to grab the wife's phone of one of the spares.
Guys, just wanted to revisit to say I haven't forgotten my former pledge to beat Kirby's Dream Course. I got pretty busy and distracted by other games for a couple weeks, but I'll try to put a few hours into KDC this week and see where I get.

I hope to play it sometime in 2016.
It sure doesn't pull any punches in the first few moments of game play. First fight you have is scripted so you lose. Then the first area you fight, you're lucky to kill one centipede. Too bad you can encounter 3 at one time; even if you have a good fight, it's risky. Oh and you start out with weapon\armor in your inventory, but NOT EQUIPED.
I do like it's one where you regain all HP\MP on level up, and it shows needed EXP in the status so you can see how far you are from a level up. Also if you lose in combat you don't die, you have a very strong chance of being alive but with critical HP. Next combat though, you will most likely die. I had to run from all my first fights. And the overworld has bandits who are still way stronger than I am. I don't know how long this will last though, I just got to level 3 in the first cave, and now I can fight 3 centepedes with no issue. It does seem like this game will need some leveling up throughout it though.
Street Combat done. That finally gets me to 100 with just under a month to spare. Doubt was creeping in as I had failed on the last handful of games I attempted, and some of the longer games were just not keeping my attention
Rooster has been pretty MIA in this thread for the last 6 months. Since my participation will be down next year I don't mind instead handling thread duties (with his blessing). I feel like he only did it this year out of necessity.
^That'd be great! Starting right on Jan. 1st will definitely help as well, to get that early push.
BTW you should take another crack at Toys sometime -- you'll laugh once you realize how easy it is. Toys is one of the games that if I sit down to play, I can always beat.
Should we consider making a Google docs list of games that can be edited by a few people for next year? I think it may help keep a list easier to manage and allowing a few people to edit will ensure it stays relatively up to date. That way the burden isn't on one person for the year.

Sorry about that, Brock
