Can NA Beat Every SNES Game 2015?

  • Super Bomberman 2 is finished.  I completely forgot there was a 3rd phase to the final boss.  Went to get a beer after beating the mech thing, and then promptly got smoked.  That was frustrating...

  • ...and then Firestriker with my wife, after she woke up and couldn't sleep

  • I just looked at the previous two threads.  Seems that the pace this year is even worse than last year (which was worse than the year before).

Maybe this should be a "Can NA beat the SNES library 2015-201?"
  • I agree with Brock, there should not be any sort of time limit on this challenge. Should just be: Can NA beat all SNES games. It's kind of stupid to restart it every year when we aren't even on pace to finish 1/3 of the games.

I can tell you for a fact I won't be replaying the stuff I already beat and did videos for this year.
  • Hell, even making it a 2-year thing would probably be a big difference

Alien Vs Predator complete.  I generally suck at beat-em-ups but this one is exploitable with the laser 85% of the time, and the slide kick 14% of the time

  • Choplifter III

  • Edit: See next post.
  • Cleared Phalanx on Funny Difficulty. This game was bullet hell before bullet hell was a thing.

    Video:
  • With Geese falling 3 stories, Fatal Fury's done while I was watching America's test kitchen with the wife after during supper:

    And the WTF pic...

Took it right when the text was changing.  Game's a lot harder when your guy decides TO RANDOMLY JUMP ALL OVER OR NOT JUMP WHEN YOU WANT TO!  Great fun when the boss can also grab you in mid-air.

Oh well, D-Pad's still 10x better than my old PSP1000 model. That one I can't even throw fireballs.

Totally off topic, but I'm just curious but which PSP has the best d-pad?  I have a bunch of PSP games but no PSP, and I want to get one with a workable d-pad (I find most d-pads on handhelds like the DS lite and Gameboy SP to be completely unplayable).

  • I've been able to do a fireball and dragon punch for 24 years, and even when I was playing turnies, I'd always be tossing fireballs at least for cheap damage when people stand up, or get into fireball fighting with the best of them, so I'm great at the motion, be it joystick or d-pad.

I'd be damned if I could ever get one to work on my PSP-1000 I'd try a slow sway in style tekken, or a 2-in-one quickish one, nothing.  I could throw them now and then to the left, but to the right, no good.  But my psp was used too, so it may have had damage I didn't notice.

The 3000 seems to work much better.  I'm not sure if the snes emulator I'm using is crap though or if it's the pad, I couldn't jump to the left very well.  I also could not get any charge down, press up moves to work just now for terry or andy.  That oculd have just been emulator issues though, while I love emulators, ports of them to anything except the PC always seem crummy to me.  Still great for multitasking (Or in my case, loafing around cause I still have no seating in my game room)
  • I've updated the list again. I would like to challenge us to beat every game in a year, which I think is doable but not with the current number of participants. It seems like the NES thread (not including that a typical NES game is shorter) has probably 3-4 times as many participants.

Every year we always hope that they'll filter over here after they finish their goal but it never happens. I will keep the thread active after the end of the year just so we can prove that 100% of the library can actually be beaten. I would also like to encourage anyone who is lurking or is too shy to participate in the thread. Don't let me scare you away! I'm not the nicest person on the forum but I love this system and enjoy seeing people actively participate in taking down games.
  • Fighter's History is.. wait, wtf

WHY?! I hate when they pull this crap; defaults to easy (When there's two levels lower than easy), and doesn't give you the ending on default settings.  Oh well.  It's a very underrated game, one that I forgot had 6 buttons till the third round or so; forgot only the later games were neo-geo games.

Anyways, Fighter's history is beat. Twice.

As I said, under-rated fighter. If you read the reviews, it's normally reviewers claiming it's just a cheap boring knock off, but praise it's great controlls.  Great controlls is 90% of the game, and this has them right up there with SFII, allowing you to pull of some nice combos.  AI is dumb as hell though, way to easy to get it stuck in paterns. I almost wonder if it got bad reviews because mags didn't want to offend capcom with the lawsuit going on.

Edit: Almost forgot, I have no issues with fireballs, or jumping in this game.  So just a crappy fatal fury port I think.  I should have it down in the basement and I don't remember having that much issue, but I also remember most of the SNK fighters were half assed ports, so that's why I really wanted an arcade card for my Duo. Even bought Fatal Furty 2 in hopes of getting one when they came to america.  Cause TTI was bringing the duo back to life.....
  • My son was born so I'm out of commission for a bit. I did order some easy games that I could get to here and there as I find time though (including Great Waldo Search, doh!)
  • And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: TE is complete.  All hail the mighty wingnut.  Let's take someone with one of the best jumpkicks, give him an air dash both directions to get thoese kicks nice and deep, and since jump kicks hit high, let's give him one if not the fastest low hitting move in the game, so quick it combos with itself 3-5 hits.  And let's give that low attack good damage.  Oh and let's give him an air dive, but not just a normal air dive, let's make it save on block.  No wait, let's make the low kick COMBO even on block!  And then let's give him a mid-air fireball for good measure, with not one but two angles just to make him more tricky.  Oh, and a dashing move to punish mistakes, and for fun, give him a good throw range too.

Yea, I think Wingnut it a bit overpowered.  And his A.U. move is cheap in the corner too, lots of nice block damage.

  • You guys know I like fighters a lot?  Mortal Kombat 3 is done.  And out of focus too!

And this time jumping to the left was acting up, same as fatal fury.  Made the morto fight a pain in the ass.
  • And while I'm at it

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is done.  Mortoro was acting odd in this one, not following for hop kicks nearly as often, and he used a 5 fireball combo shot on me.  He was not happy.
  • Sure is lonely here in this thread.

Edit: and to make it eaiser for rooster,  here's the snes ones:

    Fatal Fury      10:23 PM 4/20/2015

    Fighters History     10:23 PM 4/20/2015

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: TF   10:23 PM 4/20/2015

    Mortal Kombat 3      10:23 PM 4/20/2015

    Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3    12:00 PM 4/21/2015

    Mortal Kombat      8:22 PM 4/21/2015
  • I finished Scooby Doo Mystery today.

  • So again, with my limited capacities right now I'll be attempting some real doozies (finishing Ys III and Ogre Battle were on the docket, now it may be awhile...)

Thomas the Tank Engine is done.  In as much as it can be done.  I did a round of all the mini-games, and it just appears to loop endlessly, no credits, so I didn't even bother with a pic

Then I "beat" Barbie Super Model...  yeah for a 5 minute long game it was pretty maddening.  After dying to the damn birds and frisbees and having to start over 4 or so times I just rushed through it as fast I could.  Mini-games be damned.  No pic again because there appears to be no ending (gamefaqs confirmed this)
  • And if anyone's wondering, yes, I'm playing other games besides fighters. I think I'm giving up on lagoon, the boss fights are just too dumb in it, and I don't want to bother over leveling just because of weird ass hit boxes. In BoF I'm as Bleak, this is the second time I spent any time leveling up, the first was at the very beginning near the HP refill ponds right before the frog. I'm playing with a shit-ton of mrbl3s and abusing the earth key, while keeping the partly kind of low-level. So not my main way of playing.

I may go get the water jug refilled, and if I do that, I know I can fight some stronger than should be overworld monsters near there for good leveling up.
  • I'd actually had some interest in Lagoon. If it's not your cup of tea I may take a shot at it in the next couple months

That's the problem, it IS my cup of tea, just has a few issues that REALLY make it bad.  A lot of people talk about the attack range, but I just play it like Ys, just have to remember to his stuff off center cause of the funky weapon location.

What I dislike is there's no invulnerability after you get hit, and you always move inverse of your direction you're facing, not the direction of the hit, so a boss can hit you in the back and you're dead in one hit as you get sucked into their sprite.   That, and hitting the bosses is such a pain.

I'll most likely give it another try after BoF and maybe Wizadry 5; doing gemfire tonight. I think I like the nes versions graphics more than snes for gemfire.

  • Gemfire is done, so that's twice in one week I beat this game, just on diffrent systems.

The ending is a lot longer on snes that nes, but the combat graphics are a joke on it.  The snes ones would be low-par on the nes, and the nes graphics are average for a c64 game.  But other than that, it's a fun little fisher-price my first koei game. Computer's dumb as hell though and kept offering me it's flanks to attack.
  • If the OP is properly updated as to unbeaten games, I'll probably do Hagane on hard mode so I can feel big about myself. Unfortunately, all it does is make enemies have tons of health (as far as I've noticed, at least), but it's a fun game. Are we supposed to post times?

It's honor system, so honestly you could just say you beat it this year and it's good.  Only games OP is behind on updating are mine from the last few posts.
  • Ah, fair enough. I guess you'd have to be a pretty damaged individual to tell lies online about which games you've completed and when. I've completed Hagane multiple times, but I have yet to do so on an actual console, since I didn't have one capable of playing Famicom games. Will post photos and/or boisterous claims once I've done it on a real SNES.

On the topic of that game, I'm an idiot. I knew the price was going to skyrocket for Famicom versions of the game and was contemplating buying hundreds of them, but then lost my nerve and only bought one (for I believe $40). Now they're around $100 a copy. Still, I've never made any money through collecting and probably never will, but it's a bit regrettable.
  • Shoot, I think someone already got Gemfire. Hopefully it's not too long
  • From what's remaining on the list I've beaten..

ActRaiser 2 and Gradius III this year.

I might be able to beat Axelay but it's proving too difficult so far. Same with Pocky and Rocky.
