And the best current-gen console (Wii, 360, PS3) is?
What do you guys think is the best current-gen console?
It's a very tough choice between Wii and 360 for me. The Wii certainly has some excellent features to it, such as the Virtual Console, the Homebrew Channel, and of course, their main library of games (although admittedly not many). However, it lacks what the 360 has, which is good online gameplay.
The 360 should speak for itself. It's got some of the greatest online play I've ever experienced with a video game console, and an overall great library of games, arguably even more so than the Wii.
The PS3, eh...let's just say I find it lacking.

I've really enjoyed my Wii so far
I haven't had much time with my PS3 yet, but so far I really enjoy what I have seen of it

built in wireless, blu ray player, larger hard drive, rechargeable wireless controller, multiple USB ports, free online play
where is it lacking?
microsoft sent out 360s knowing they were defective
After many months of public complaints and outcries, Microsoft has publically admitted that *ALL* (as in every single one ever sold) Xbox360's have a design defect that can lead to their failure. Though Robbie Bach, head of Microsoft's Xbox360 Division refused to elaborate on the issue, the general consensus is that it's one of botched thermal design management and inadequate dissipation of heat leading to component failure. All of the nearly 12 million units currently in the hands of consumers are affected. Though Microsoft has not issued a global recall, they have tripled the warranty coverage period, and are expected to have to dole out over $1 Billion to correct the situation.
when your company triples the warranty period costing them over a billion dollars, you know something isn't right
IMO 360 is the best console out for people who game a lot. The Ps3 and 360 are about the same thing only the 360 has more "Only For" games for its console, and a better online, I also like there controllers better.
The Wii is my personal fav. YOU CAN'T COMPARE THE 360 and PS3 to the Wii. I have a Wii and 360 and that way I have all. Sure you can say the Wii is dumb. But if you don't have one, your missing out on PLENTY of Nintendo Only Games like Trauma Center, No More Heroes etc.. then you get the Mario, Zelda, Wario etc.. Sure if im going to get a game thats on all 3 consoles like Madden or a FPS im going to get it on my 360. Its like 360 vs Ps3 and then the Wii is on the other side of the table.
I just hate when people are like the 360 or PS3 "pwns" the Wii. No it doesn't there 2 totally different consoles.
1. 360
2. Wii
3. Ps3
The Ps3 just has not tried, they have lost all there big games to share with the 360 and have no exclusives, they need to get a little better online and the price is a little ridic, sure you get a Blu-Ray player, but i'll pass on that. It is durable though, but I can miss my 360 for about 10-12 days so that I can have gears, left 4 dead and many of the other 360 only exclusives.
^Damage. Who cares about Blu-Ray I don't and most people don't. I hate that stat as a + for the ps3 point is I am never going to buy a Blu-Ray player if it takes over DVDs forever then yes. plus blu-ray movies are more expensive so add that one, plus the PS3 controllers are more expensive and the system blah blah blah. larger hard drive hmm. yesh come on who the fudge is going to fill up that space?!? I game A LOT and I mean A LOT and I can't even fill up my Wii's memory. I got something else to play movies and something else to play music I don't need my game system doign all of it. So forget these dumb positives for the PS3. I would rather have a 360 that breaks once a year and I don't have it for 10 days with all the games it has availible then be bored with Resistance and MGS4 and then go on to play ummm oh wait thats it. for the PS3 they need to try much harder.
1. 360 - Personally I've got more mileage out of this puppy than any of the others. The Live Arcade alone makes this worth the price of admission for me. Beyond that there's some quality software like Banjo Kazooie, Viva Pinata, and Fable 2. I love the controller too which helps greatly.
2. PS3 - I don't even use this for gaming anymore. I haven't put a game into my PS3 since last June. I mainly use it for watching DVDs and the occasional Blu-Ray. Sometime I'll probably pick up Little Big Planet and beyond that I have no interest in playing games on this machine. Multiplatform games are bought for my 360. The fact that I use the PS3 for movies is the only reason it's even in this position.
3. Wii - Sold this about four months back and don't really regret my decision. Sorry Nintendo but I don't want to wave my arms around when I'm playing my games. Coupled with the fact that the only Nintendo franchise I've enjoyed since they went 3D is Mario and I just don't see the point in me owning one. I don't like motion controls...and honestly I'd almost go as far as saying that I HATE them. I refuse to play games that use them beyond basic functions (Mario Galaxy is as far as I'm willing to go with motion controls).
>_> So yeah...no deal whatsoever. Don't regret the purchase honestly.
Well I bought it during the first "price drop" when the 60 GB units were being discontinued. So it has backwards compatibility which is nice.

Yeah well at least you didn't buy it when it cost $600.

It was actually about $700 here before the drop. Walmart had more deals on them at the time to knock them back to about $400.
There's no way in hell I'm paying more than $400 for a video game system before tax. Not when I've got a Genesis, SNES, NES (before it died), and a DS sitting there with probably twice the number of games I want. Not to mention I already had a 360 and Wii by that time.
I'm not totally insane. Just partially.
In the video game library.
I have been a HUGE nintendo fan my whole life I probably always will be. The Wii has some great software, I mean superb top notch games such as Galaxy, Zack and Wiki, Excitetruck, Zelda, Paper Mario, Brawl etc. I used to hate all those people that complained about the wiis graphics and stuff like that. When my brother got a PS3 recently I definetely realized these are valid complaints, those graphics are amazing, and the physics engines are too complicated for the little wii to handle. This is why I believe the wii is NOT a next gen system, its really just like gamecube model 2 or something.
It used to be that games could be easily ported to xbox ps2 or gamecube. But the wii has no processing power whatsoever so there is no way we can get the same games(unless its a simple one like megaman 9 and the lego titles.)
I still love the wii, theres no good software coming out though what so ever (well except punchout and sin and punishment, but not for this holiday season). The whole "I dont want to excercise when I play games" complaint I will never understand. All you do is move your arm, point, tilt, shake or whatever, and most games barely use it anyways. This is in no way any form of excercise and if you think it is than that is quite sad. However if u are playing a game like Rayman or Wii Sports than I can see where you are coming from but I still dont clasify that as excercise.
So anyways I love the Wii, but if someones looking for a real next gen experience I would have to go with PS3 it has Little Big planet, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Motorstorm etc.
For those 360 fans who pay for internet access for their broken machines: Name some good 360 exclusive games that ARENT shooters!!!
The Ps3... [has] no exclusives
See, this is the argument that I hate. I could care less what consoles have "only *this game*" or "only *that game*," it's just lame. Who cares? If I like the game, I will play it for sure, no matter the system it's on. I'm more of a PS3 guy myself, because I like the controller. I've been sold on it since the PS1, so I'm very comfortable with it, and love the feel. I personally think it's the best controller that has been made so far. However, this doesn't stop me from gettin' down on some Ninja Gaiden II for the 360!
Also, another reason I like the PS3 is because I can just jump online and play some games with people if I feel the urge. I don't have to bother shucking out an extra 50 bucks for a service that I get for free elsewhere, which I see no difference in. It's just win-win for me it seems. I don't know, maybe I'm missing a bigger picture that I don't happen to understand, but for me a great controller, plenty of great games to play, and free online multiplayer (which I _rarely_ do anyway) seems solid to me.
The bottom line that I really wanted to say is, exclusives only mean something to each individual person. If you can only afford one system, then look and see what you like before purchasing. It's only fanboy kinda people that post at the Gametrailers forums that choose a system by the amount of exclusives on a system, and not by the amount of good games on any system.
Also, I wish that games were like VCRs or DVD players. You know, not system specific, and people bought the product because of the features. Wishful thinking, but still hehe
Really though, there is no way to definitively say one way or the other. It is all in personal taste.
If you like FPS games and just want a gaming console, then the xBox360 is the way to go for sure. If you like all of the extras all in one place, the PS3 is the one to go for.
As for me, I'm much like my buddy Rob. I've liked Sony's controllers since the original PlayStation, and I like all of the extra stuff, especially free online stuff. I also like Ratchet and Clank and God of War games, so...
I think the 360 is better than all. The Wii doesn't have a lasting effect at all... everyone I know who has bought one has turned around and sold it within the first year of them owning it. Its VERY cool at first, but then becomes pretty boring unless you have a lot of friends / family to play multiplayer games with. I could see it being good with games like "Mario Party and such".
PS3 has horrendous online support, but what do you expect, it is "free". Anyone who has played both an Xbox 360 and PS3 will agree with you on that.
I bought my Xbox 360 with the release of Halo 3 and I got many good months of online play out of it before I was bored. I also was able to play Ninja Gaiden II (which is an Xbox 360 exclusive that is NOT a shooter I might add) which is also a very good game. Not nearly as polished as Ninja Gaiden Black on the original Xbox (quite possibly the best game I've ever played) and that is truly a shame. While it does feel as if it were "rushed" to the store shelves, it is still a very good game and provide much more entertainment than Devil May Cry or any other game in its genre.
Yeah I guess your right.. that doesnt happen too much with Xbox, because they are already broken by that time..
Im not a fanboy for either WII of PS3. I dont even play either of those.. Im a fanboy for NES and SNES. I just think Xbox is a pile of poo. Its controllers are terrible, and even with is big exclusive library, I cant find any games with depth to them. Then you gotta pay to play that poo? No thank you. Why is the plastic so bulky on those controllers? Its supposed to be ergonomic.. Im not supposed to feel like im holding a microwave safe container.
Man if you are going to hate on the Xbox you got to come up with some better arguments than that.
While they do have high failure rates, my personal console has never died on me. Still going strong since I got it on September 1st, 2007 right before Halo 3. Also, the majority of my friends are still on their original Xbox while only a couple have experienced the RROD. It is also worth noting that PS2's have high failure rates as well, as both of the consoles I purchased are now always "Disc Read Error" no matter how clean the disc is. I'm also the original owner of both of those PS2's so it's not like I picked up some junk at a yard sale hoping it would play my games. Gamecubes suffered from disc read errors too, so no technology is perfect.
And please don't even try to criticize the controller. Obviously you are going to hate it because you don't use it!! That's a completely biased opinion (which you are entitled to have), not the "fact" that you make it seem. I don't know if you remember the launch of the N64, but those controllers were HORRENDOUS. I remember the first time I touched it thinking WTF is this and how the hell do I hold it? Almost everyone I knew hated it at first, but then quickly got used to it after playing it. And back then all of the PS2 fanboys who didn't own N64s would bash it saying how badly Nintendo screwed up making a controller that was borderline unusable...
The Xbox360 controller is pretty much identical to the PS3 controller now that they have added two shoulder buttons on each side. There is no argument here about which controller is superior as they are as identical as you will ever see across platforms. Move on to your next point if you insist the 360 is such garbage...
I don't hate the 360, but it annoys the piss out of me that it scratched two of my game discs, making them unplayable. One of those was Ninja Gaiden II, the very same week I bought it. I had to replace it that same week because, well, it's Ninja Gaiden : P. Back when it came out, it wasn't on that list of games that could be replaced due to the system scratching it, so I couldn't go that route.
End of the day, it is definitely all about preference for a system w/ it's games, though. Which is why I hate when people jump down other people's throats about it.
I'll be honest I only got to maybe Chapter / Mission (whatever it is called) 7 or 8 on Hard. Breezed through the game on Warrior and was doing pretty well on Hard after I adjusted to the rocket projectiles coming from off-screen that you can't even see, but then I lost interest. I wasn't anywhere near maxing out, I just was no longer interested in the game play. Seemed overly hard rather than very challenging and still fun.
I've never owned a PS3 or 360, so I can't vote. I push more PS3's for the blu ray alone. I don't have to push wii's, we can't keep them in.
