This thread reminds me of a NES I got last summer. I was opening it up to fix the controller ports (someone switched them which was odd) and out fell a ton of roach eggs, and dead roaches, and live roaches. Fun stuff.

Crazy. I've found dead bugs, spider webs, and moldy stuff that looks like old cotton candy inside of NES systems before, but I think finding live roaches would kill the fun of refurbishing toasters for me.

Seconded!
I actually opened a couple particularly scuzzy looking toasters outside once for fear of just that, very fortunately my fears were unfounded, aside from a small and very dead spider, they were both clean.
I won a lot of video game systems, that were supposed to all work. Half of them did and half of them didnt. I opened one up and it was full of roach shit and dead bugs.. and what looked like dead grass, and crap from someones yard. I took all the systems outside, and sprayed bug killer everywhere, none of them seemed to have anything live in them, and I am still using one of the systems. Pretty nasty, but the outside is clean, and there is nothing alive in it, so what the hell.. why not use it? One was an nes, i took it apart and threw away all the inside, and just kept the shell, and cleaned it with bleach.
I got a PS2 for $10 off ebay a while ago and it wouldn't turn on - so I tested the powersupply, all good. After openign to see if there were dry solder joints I find a Gecko chilling out on the PSU all crispy

I thought this topic was a lot of fun so I dug it up from the dead to see if anyone has anything new to contribute. This has to be one of my saddest items...I think the caption for this should be 'Oh man, I have this really hot soldering iron that I need to put down...where should I put it?!'
I would not say I am ashamed of this cart, nor is it the worse I've seen, but I bet it's one of the more expensive games purchased with fairly serious label damage. It belongs in a thread of cringe-worthy label damage:
The best/worst thing I ever got was a TG-16 that had been in found in a houseboat that sank - for a month. A guy was selling everythine at the flea market out of the back of a trailer that was still dripping. It was rusty and slimy and was completely trashed. I bought it for $1 because it had a nice, somehow minty copy of Bonk still in it - the game worked like a charm!
Comments
or someone likes the princess as much as I do, oh baby
Thanks for the laugh this morning.. I too immediately thought that some gamer got excited and spewed his "load" on the cart...
