I don't understand the thinking behind buying really any Wii U game already graded, unless you absolutely could not track down a sealed copy otherwise. Most if not all who VGA grade games do so in hopes of turning a profit. Games that are worth $20 new and sealed suddenly get WILD pricetags attached to them once they're in that acrylic case.

If someone has a high grade it is better then me doing it myself and not getting a good grade.

Besides who said anything about paying WILD prices?

I guess. It's just that every sealed Wii U game I see (and own) would probably grade at least an 85+, you'd think high-grading copies of games would be a dime a dozen on a current system with a micro-library and next to no rare games.

I don't believe anyone said anything about paying wild prices, I said that a lot of people charge wild prices for VGA graded games, which they do, it's no secret. Just figured on a newer system why not take advantage of the opportunity to get VGA graded copies of games while spending as little as possible ie: the cost of the game+the cost of getting graded, with no premium for the middleman. Of course you've already answered that, so that's that.

  • Picked up Terraria today for $20 sealed. Also, it's $25 at BB in Canada. There were still a few games for $5 to $10 CAD like older LEGO games, fitness, and Zombie U. Missed out on the Disney Infinity.

So, what games are on the horizon for physical release?

    Skylanders Imaginators.

    Breathe of the Wild (2017)

    Just Dance 2017

    Paper Mario: Color Splash

    Shantae

    Darksiders ??

    Runbow

Then those few amiibo bundles for Mario Party 10 and Yoshi's WW. Not sure what else.

From discussions Ive read about getting newer games graded, they are very picky grading them. If its not out of a sealed case its not going to grade as well as you think

Tough to say, but that's going to be about it, if that. around the 160 mark.
  • Also, I've taken games from sealed cases at TRU and other stores on release day and even some of those have various quality of seals or press marks/scuffs. It seems like they are grading the wrap more than anything on these new games which is why I personally wouldn't bother.

Really? Man, that's just one more thing to find unattractive to me about grading new games. I get the idea behind confirming authenticity  and grading condition of old games, but grading new ones to me would be difficult to justify. Especially since I get the feeling that Wii U games aside from maybe 15 of them will never escape the bargain bin. I feel like we'll be seeing copies of Toad Treasure Tracker for 4 bucks in a bin years and years from now. Not to shit on the Wii U, I actually enjoy playing the system, but the only collection appeal it would have (to me and only me) is that you could finish a set that size quickly without breaking the bank.

  • I dont know man. Theyll clearance stuff out and it wont be around besides the most popular. So many ganes are already hard to find and arent coming back

I don't care if it's worth money or not, but I think you may be wrong on the Wii U not escaping the bargain bin. Several games are already above MSRP and more will join those. The system didn't sell very well and there was also a focus on digital distribution so there are less physical copies. It's Nintendo so there will be some level of interest in the system among collectors, especially with some of the best games ever made for some genres and/or franchises (Bayonetta, MK8, Smash, Pikmin, etc...)

Of course it's plentiful now but in 10 years it's going to be pretty difficult to find some of these games.

  • I picked up mighty number 9 on clearance at Target for $9.00 yesterday. Might be worth checking for if anyone needs to fill that one in. Once the initial hate ended I started hearing good things about it. I wonder if that will spike a bit down the road.

I really doubt it for MN9.  I think they made a lot of copies, which is why it's already clearanced.  A lot of people bought it before word got around that it's a pretty poor game (I agree with that evaluation).  It's worth it for $9 new, however, nice deal.

If anyone needs an extra Disney Infinity, I have an extra starter set.  It's pretty beat up, and I managed to find a better one, so I was planning to return it within the next couple days.  Probably not worth shipping but if anyone is in the Northern Virginia area and interested PM me.  Also was rearranging games a couple days ago and found that I have an extra sealed Jeopardy and Skylanders Trap Team starter set.  So same deal with those except I can't return LOL.

I admit I was emphasizing a bit hard there, but what I mean is that there are few valuable/marquee titles for the system, and almost everything is easy to find at the moment. The future may hold something different, but I imagine the Wii U will go through something of a "clearance" period once it's a console generation old or so. The Gamestops of the world will need the shelf space.

Ok, "never escape" is hyperbole, but I can see 2018 WalMart bargain bins overflowing with copies of Lets Dance and Lego City Undercover. Maybe not so much down the road when certain things have rarity appeal, but it's hard to see past the "awkward teens" that systems like the original Xbox are currently experiencing.

almost everything is easy to find? yeah popular first party stuff and some mainstream titles, but the first 2 years launch and 3rd party titles? alot of that stuff is already expensive for what it is

the stuff thats hard to find is already gone. Its already been clearanced. These bargain bins you speak of have already happened with half the library. The clearance you are talking about is going to be the left over selects and maybe some amiibo bundles.
  • In two years you won't see any Wii U games left in bargain bins. You'll still see plenty of PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii games, but the Wii U ones will be long gone.
  • Have to agree with Quest4NES and elprincipe. As someone that has owned a Wii U and collected since launch, I've witnessed the vast majority of the library already go through the bargain bin years ago at Target, KMart, Best Buy, Amazon, etc... These games are already difficult to find and in some cases rising in price. When/if more people start collecting for Wii U it will start to become more and more clear that games like Hello Kitty, Walking Dead, Fineas and Ferb, Turbo Stunt Squad, on and on are just not available at the vast majority of retailers. Even some first party games aren't easily found such as Game and Wario, Wii Sports Club, New Super Luigi U, Bayonetta 1+2, etc...

Collecting has changed somewhat, IMO. Systems don't always bottom out like they used to. Nintendo and other Publishers know they can still sell games digitally so they have become more and more conservative with their print runs and thus less games, from some Publishers, end up in the Bargain Bins. Sure, there are still a lot of Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii games available but those had less focus on digital distribution and a much much larger footprint in the market than Wii U was able to gain.

Read this last night and gave a visit to my local Target today. Picked up Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles X for $29.00 total.

    Anyone Know on this?

For Yoshi's Wolly World are these the same boxes as the original with a pink/blue yoshi amibo crammed in? Are the amibos the same as the retail versions?

    Same question for Mario Party

    The boxes are different....sigh
  • Haha, yeah, glad I decided against variant collecting for the Wii U early on. They're really milking what's out there.

I think the Wii U will be somewhat similar to Wii in that you'll see the same few games everywhere and then others will be more or less non existent unless you actively search them out. Even games like Wonderful 101, which were once plentiful, is a game I rarely see these days and there is no sign of a 'greatest hits' for that title like Lego City and Pikmin that were getting harder to find.

I went back today and the Wii U case is still empty, but I did find some Wii U games on clearance. Mostly shovelware, but I did find this in the mix:

  • Can anyone recommend games worth having in the collection, be they good games or games that might be harder to acquire a few years down the road and are worth having? I'm not going for a complete set, so I don't care too much about random shovelware, unless there is something notable about it. The two I know I still need are Game and Wario and Wii Party U.

  • ^ Looks like you have most of the good ones there out of the way. I'd just take a look a complete list as there are only about 155 games and between the ones you own and the ones you know are complete shit there won't be much left. Giana Sisters is worth getting, darksiders 2 and Deus Ex are OK as well for the limited amount of time I've played them. Not too many others I can think of that are not on your list.

    ---

Darksiders 1 and Tumblestone are two others that will be getting a physical release.

Bestbuy.ca has a place holder for Young Justice:League which I thought was cancelled way back and also has a slot for Project Giant Robot with a release date of Dec 31st 2016... which I'm guessing is also a place holder. Not sure about either of these games.
  • Thanks, I'll check out Giana Sisters as that isn't a game I've heard much about, other than seeing the name thrown around in this thread a few times. Darksiders 2 I already have as a digital download, but I think I might have to grab the physical version sometime soon.

I have a feeling Project Giant Robot won't see the light of day. We did see the tower defense game come to life in the form of Star Fox Guard, so I guess there is still the possibility.
  • I went back to Walmart again to see how things were and I found yet another diamond in the rough:

  • So here's a very suspect one.  Received this "new" copy of Monster High: 13 Wishes today.  It looks 100% reseal to me - new copies on eBay have the normal seal.  Anyone have any knowledge to the contrary?

  • haha.... pretty sure that's Saran wrap. This is still in a lot of stores around here with the classic y-fold or whatever you want to call it.

Most of the Games at my local Walmarts have seals like that, I was going to buy afew, but the two Walmarts within afew minutes of my house both have the games I want in crappy seals like that.
