Check the dumpsters! He is going to try and snag a few for me, but just a heads up for everyone else.

Why on earth? What could possibly be the reason to throw away a case, amd replace it with a cheap crappy case of the same size?

GS is truly clueless on why nintendo stuff is expensive and popular collectors items. This is exactly why them selling old games is a mistake. They dont treat anything with respect.

It honestly doesn't surprise me. Look at all the PS2 GameCube and Xbox games that they had in the papers sleeves for the longest time and all the DS cases they threw out they threw out just save space. Just recently they were taking new copies of Shantae and ditching the box in the soundtrack and just selling the disc without the case because it took up too much shelf space

But switching out the blue for black cases doesnt save space

Gamestop logicTM. It's like they want to make sure I don't buy anything from them.

  • And in 5-10 years when wii u stuff is more collectible theyll wonder why their stuff wont move

with the switch releasing endless ports the wii u will be a collectors system. So destroying original cases shows they have no future thought at all. Seriously who holds these jobs that makes these decisions. They are sabatoging their own future with all this throwibg away original cases nonsense

But those generic cases all same Gamestop on them...I bet they see it as a advertising technique.

They aren't smart, I mean they started buying iPhones and selling Cricket service. Makes sense to buy phones you can't resell on the service you offer lol.

  • You can use iphones on cricket.

Business phone is that right now
  • You know what aldo says gamestop on it?

The receipt when they actually sell a game
  • They're definitely not doing that at the GameStops near me so it's probably YMMV. I can usually find a game CIB as far back as early Wii-era just by calling a few GameStops and finding one that says they have the game complete. Then I just go into my local store and have them ship the game from the far away store to my local store.

The real pain is when ALL GameStops started throwing away DS cases... now it's impossible to find CIB DS games around here without buying them online. And I hate having to do that because of all the fake DS carts out there. But for other systems and games, GameStop's incompetence is mostly tolerable/avoidable.

But for the love of god don't buy Wii U games on the GS website. They resurface them as if they were PS3/PS4 discs, rendering them completely useless. So half the games they send you will be incomplete, and the other half won't even work >_>
  • I just listed my sealed US-version of Hello Kitty Kruisers here https://www.ebay.com/itm/222791638362 Maybe someone from here would like to bid on it

Yeah, EB Games does this up here in Canada too. Really annoying. More than half the time it comes incomplete or in a blank black case. Having said that I was able to get some great deals on hard to find games for the system in the $5-$15 range that showed up in great shape.

  • I'd like some opinions. Would you trade a CIB Wii U set (all 163 games with original cases and inserts) for a full Nintendo Power magazine set (with each magazine ranging from good to mint condition)? Why or why not?

Dear lord, no.  No no no no no.  Just no.  The Nintendo Power set is nowhere near worth as much.  Minus the first or last handful of issues, I can find any other issue around town for $5 or less an issue.  The Nintendo Power set is not going up in value anytime soon.  The Wii U set is going to go up over the next decade or two (unless Nintendo ends up porting over every single damn game to the Switch).

  • Hell no. Horrible trade. Id rather just buy a np set lots at a time if i wanted them bad. I have most issues 1-near 100, snd the final 2 issues. Not even close to a fair trade. The most expensive 4-5 issues could be made up in value by a couple games.

    Less than 12h remaining
  • Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is $18.97 new at GameStop (might not be sealed...)

Out of stock on the website but most stores have it for store pickup
  • If anyone is looking for any specific games, I have most of the collection sealed that I will be getting rid of. PM me.

Tossing the blue cases to replace them with generic cases makes no sense. The other examples do make sense because they were making extra shelf space by getting rid of the cases and putting them in sleeves or whatever. Really weird.

Thank you for the heads-up! Just snagged a sealed copy at the GameStop in my local ghetto
  • Hello Kitty Kruisers is the latest Wii U game to get ported to the Switch. At this rate, the only games that won't make the jump are sports games, it feels like.

  • So with all the ports of same exact games... Will this make wiiU less collectible?

Since the switch is (arguably) the updated/better version
  • I kinda feel like the Wii U will be a niche collectable down the road. The Switch has essentially swept it under the rug. I've already bought a few Switch games that were on the Wii U and plan on dumping my Wii U copies.

Just gave the collection a quick look and most of my Wii U games are sealed also.

  • Anyone else have thoughts on selling off some/all of their Wii U collection? I'd keep some of my favorites, but there's just so much junk that I'd never play, and that I really have no interest in... I keep finding myself thinking of some heavy hitters I could get for other systems if I trimmed the fat from my Wii U set.

It was fun to hunt for the complete set but it's becoming harder to justify keeping all of it, especially with the Switch getting enhanced ports of basically every single noteworthy Wii U game.
  • Yeah, I have been debating it also. There are some Genesis and SNES games I would much rather have.
  • Nah I collect nintendo. There are still of a lot of good wii u games. And Im not rebuying everything on switch anyway. Got mario kart. I might get DK when its waaaay cheaper.

I dont understand the point of wanting to collect wii u then saying nevermind. I collected it for the wii u set. I didnt buy croods for 10 bucks at gamestop to play.

    Mario Maker

    Wonderful 101

    New Super Mario Bros U

    New Super Luigi U

    Super Mario 3D World

Smash Bros( at this point are they going to even re release it or do a whole new one?)

    Captain Toad

    Zombie U

Starfox Zero/Guard (Its not what I wanted but its still fun)

    Yoshi's Wooly World

    Pikmin 3

    Xenoblade Chronicles X

    Mario Party 10

    Nintendoland

    Twilight Princess HD

    Windwaker HD

    Paper Mario Color Splash

    Game & Wario

    Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

    NES Remix 1 and 2

Devil's Third (This game is still fun, dont get the hate)

Even the ports(Bayonetta, Hyrule Warriors, Pokkon Tournament, Resident Evil Revelations) Wont be rebuying those

Ton of 3rd party games I wont buy on other systems because i have wii u version( Shantae Half Genie Hero, ducktales remastered, assassins creed 3 and 4, Shovel Knight, Rayman Legends, Sniper Elite V2, Ninja Gaiden 3, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Deus Ex, Warriors Orochi 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watchdogs, Guitar Hero Live, Injustice, Tekken Tag 2, All the lego games. I love the Jurrassic World and Star Wars ones)

Then you got a few decent things that arent bad to pop in every once in awhile like Mario Tennis Ultra Smash(switch new game looks way better though, but still a different game), Mario Sonic Olympic Games, Wii Sports Club)

Plenty of Stuff on Wii U to keep imo. This whole sell your wii u collection because of switch is kinda dumb imo. Why did you collect the set to begin with if you dont want it?
  • You make a lot of good points there. I wouldn't want to try and rebuy them like I am doing with the older systems. Also, alot of my Wii U games are still sealed and a few of my Wii games also, Xenoblade and Last Story.
  • Well like I said, the hunt was fun, as was the challenge of getting all the rare ones mint and complete before GameStop realized the demand and shot their prices up.

But if I'm being honest, there are so few of these which I would actually play. Which, I'm not gonna play most of the NES through GameCube games I own either despite the fact that I'm going for full sets for those systems, but I care about and am way more attached to those than my Wii U collection. Most of the first party and exclusive stuff I'd play is getting ported to Switch, and I would sooner play those versions. It has some good 3rd party games like Assassin's Creed and Batman Arkham, but I would play the PC version because I could use the controller of my choice and have the game perform better. Absolutely no way I'd play the Wii U versions of games like those. That leaves maybe a dozen or so games at most that I'd actually like to go back to.

Maybe it's also a subconsious thing for me. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and the Wii U era was definitely Nintendo's darkest era that I remember. Coincidentally, it was also the worst era for gaming in general that I can remember. It was also a very bad time in my own personal life, so maybe I subconsciously associate it with that

Anyway, I don't think I'm gonna sell any Wii U stuff right away. Wii U prices are in the toilet right now, especially since the full set collectors are mostly done and the boom for the rares has quieted down in the past few months. Some games may go a bit lower due to them being ported to Switch, but I can't imagine they get much lower than right now. Eventually they'll go back up and we'll have some Wii U games in the triple digits again. Then maybe I'll be more apt to trade away most of the set for some retro stuff.
  • I'm dumping most of my games that aren't published by Nintendo or games I really want to keep for sentimental reasons (as seen in my FS thread). It is just time in my life to cut my collection down. I will always keep SOME Wii U games as there are some beauties.
  • Keeping my entire set. 160 disc based games don't take THAT much room and trying to sell would be even more of a nightmare than usual since 90%+ of the games are worth less than $20-$30. I find it strange that so many people are thinking about ditching their sets... Did you really think you were gonna play some of these games in the first place? The Switch will be much more expensive to collect for, especially going for a full set. Maybe just caught in the hype? Anyway, no regrets here with exception to amiibos

I can store my entire ~160 game set with the Nintendo boxed sets all in 1 half-sized IKEA Billy bookcase.  The only thing I waffle on is if I want to keep all of the variants of those damn Skylanders/Guitar Hero sets.  Those take up so much more room compared to the actual set.

  • Exactly this collection for a complete set is like anti-space taking in comparison to other sets
