F-1 Race, Players Choice version, DMG-F1-USA? Is this normal?

So I got yet another F-1 race box. Was checking contents, condition, version...and noticed there is not a -1, or -2 to represent a box change. Did nintendo forget to add it? Is this unusual or typical for this game? I can't check my collection copy since mine is sealed, and the only other CIB I had is in transit to a buyer from a FB group.

Anyone confirm this with a copy in their collection?

  • For the early Nintendo Gameboy releases they did not follow the -1, -2 update format. My favorite example is Radar Mission:

You Can tell by the gold numbers which box was printed first. Clear box change and no -1. Then no box change I can see and a -1???????????

I have had 3 F1 Race Player's Choice and have not seen a -1. If you have one let us know!

Well snap. I wonder how many variants I have passed up. How many versions of F-1 race are there? Big box and small box?
  • Thanks for the information!

  • This is what I have. The First long box is just a sticker (came in the Racing Set bundle).
  • If you go to my Gameboy collection you can see all the Variants I have found:

  • Well I guess it depends on what you consider a major variant in that case? I don't do the -1 -2 stuff but I do major artworks. And there's three big ones.

    Centipede and Centipede Accolade

    Ghostbusters II Blue and Black

    Maru's Mission Monster and Kids

For some reason Jeff left off Centipede and Maru's Mission? I know you have to have em.

Thanks Jone. For some reason I left them off???? Add now!

  • I've been working on variants for gb for a bit and it has pretty fun \ interesting to see how readily available certain ones are and how infrequent some "common" variants actually show up. If I ever move to cib, that is a nightmare I can only imagine taking on for the moment on some of these.

And thank you for the quick list. I have to check what I've come across already and know of vs what's listed above there.
  • I would keep all 3 Ghostbusters II variants as major variants. There are two blue box variants one with and one without the ghostbusters characters on the front. If the F1 Race, Racing set bundle is decided to be counted (eventually) as a variant, I would include the RC Pro Am from the same bundle. I also have a Football which was included as a promo in some other bundle I have yet to find confirmation of. I will take a picture of and post soon. Also, maybe you can help me figure out. Why is the monster only Maru's mission so different? The gameboy side bar is so much darker. Reminds me more of a CES box then an official release.

I think the Maru's Mission "Monster box" was only released in Europe (eventhough it has a USA part number).I am not 100% sure though.
  • wow variants are cool!
  • Hate to bump an old thread, but just was told of another major variant. Mouse Trap Hotel has a MB and Electro-Brain release

I angrily searched for this, because I've already tried to dig into Mouse Trap Hotel, looking for variants. Sure enough, there's an MB sealed listing on ebay right now, and a MB CIB listing if you search for Sold listings. No doubt the box is a variant, but it seems like the cart says Electro Brain even on the MB release?? I haven't seen a cart anywhere on the internet that doesn't have the Electro Brain logo, and it even shows in that CIB listing, though I guess I can't guarantee that that's the cart that came in that box.

There is no logo on the cart other than Nintendo logo. The game was made by Hasbro and distributed by MB and then Electro-Brain. So like a few others were there is a box variant, there is no cart variant.

The Electro Brain logo is to the right of the Nintendo logo. The "head" above ELECTRO BRAIN makes it easy to spot even in fuzzy pictures of the cart. I'm trying to find one without this logo.

Here's a CIB with a Non-1 manual, and a Milton Bradley box....but it has the Electrobrain cartridge. https://www.ebay.com/itm//382287523913

Here's a sealed Milton Bradley is crappy condition on ebay..... https://www.ebay.com/itm/352438142383 it may be worth picking it up just to open it...but man, $135 is steep for something like that.
  • Barcodes and screenshots are different on the boxes too.

    Milton Bradley - 0 32244 04080 1

    Electrobrain - 0 99451 71762 9

Milton Bradley also has subtitle text under each screenshot, again both screenshots are different from the Electrobrain box.

Milton Bradley copyright text reads the following:

Distributed and marketed by Multon Bradley Company, Springfield, MA 01101. A subsidiary of Hasbro Inc.

Copyright Milton Bradley Company, All Rights Reserved.

Electrobraiin box copyright text reads the following:

Electro Brain Corp. is Exclusive Licensee.

Electro Brain Corp. and the Electro Brain logo are trademarks of Electro Brain Corp.

Mousetrap Hotel is a trademark of Hasbro, Inc.

Yeah, I saw those listings. It's weird for the Electrobrain carts to not have a rev-1 product code. But how could every cart be an EB one? Let's all pitch in and buy that sealed one so we can tear it open.

I would pitch in a couple bucks if I can have the inserts without the manual.
