Hey guys, I took a bunch of photos of my nearing complete gaming setup, I have.. a few of them. I have a link here with a bunch of them but don't want to destroy the thread. The setup isn't entirely done as i'm still thinking about how to wire the security system, hide wires and organize a bit, as well as adding a few more consoles and of course, collecting more over time. Still, it's a lot of years work so it's worth showing off anyways to me
This is my primary setup where all my best modern equipment is used.
The remainder of the pictures are on the bottom level, this is my light gun station, it's a small cubby in the area that has a standard old tube TV with all light gun enabled consoles that I own in the stand. Behind it are also fold out chairs to use as there is no room in that part for permanent chairs.
Right next to that is a bedroom also filled with a bunch of stuff, including the main hub to play games that are prior to HD consoles.
The third setup of this area host both my computer and also another setup designed to handle HD consoles, obviously that category is pretty narrow right now but it's there for growth.
The rest of the pics are in the link, decided to just put some highlights there. I've enjoyed looking at these topics for so long that it feels nice to finally have one to call my own

First off: amazing collection and setups. I love the idea of having more than one setup spread throughout the house. Even beyond the utility, after a collection gets super large, I think it would be rad to just have a little change of environment occasionally. Do you have a favorite spot?
Second: What kind of clock is that in the picture I quoted? The different colors for different digial numbers--really cool.
Well all of the areas are in the basement aside one, which I know is a chilling idea but I have done a lot of work to protect against nature at least. Basically the basement is a finished basement which has a bedroom, a hallway and a den area. I have my current gen setup in my living room which is where I do all my modern/online gaming, but the rest of the stuff is in the basement but distributed in each area. The main motivator for the setup was really just knowing space is finite, so I decided to categorize things so that I could have a lot of excess room to grow. The light gun area was something I really loved thinking of because I had no idea what else to use that spot for, so I went on craigslist and nabbed a tv for it and bought some spare systems to throw under it.
The light gun spot is definitely popular with company, but myself, I do prefer the actual bedroom simply because it feels very cozy. It's a smaller space so being that close to all my stuff while being able to jam out on anything prior to the 360/ps3 generation also means it's by far the most varied spot. Over the course of life though the HD spot will of course grow a lot more too.
As for the clock, I like it a lot too. We bought it for 10 bucks at a store called linens and things probably around 8 years ago, and i've been using it ever since. It doesn't do anything special but the colors reminded me of Mario world somehow, so I just rolled with it. If you cared I could try to look it over for a name or something, if nothing else it might be findable on eBay or something.
I am grateful to have a fiancee who likes my collection and was supportive of it the whole time though, which seems to be a big problem with some collectors. It's nice to bring her down and play games together when the mood sets in. Function was always my priority over display, but I tried to balance both the best I could.

Oh, I see. Color me envious re: that finished basement area, then. I really look forward to settling down in my own house someday, but for now I'm renting. My collection is way smaller, too, so at least it won't be a pain to move soon (and likely, repeatedly). I feel like the house and full-tilt setups are a long way off for me, but it's something to look forward to--no rush.
I think you're right about having a partner who is supportive. My girlfriend--we've been together for over five years, so probably my wife someday--is interested in collecting, goes game hunting with me, and has started doing a little bit herself. She's been a gamer since she was young, like me, so it's good to have that in common. I can't imagine settling down in a house with someone who looked on collecting unfavorably, trying to ration space, keeping things out of sight, etc.; I know it happens, though, and people are still happy. Relationships are wild. No strict formula for success, I reckon.
No worries about that clock, either. It's rad. Just thought I'd ask, in case you knew off the top of your head. I'll do some Googling for kicks.
It's not easy getting into a house for most of us. I myself am almost 30 now and started collecting around 8 years ago but only a little bit. At some point I saved up enough to buy a house (or rather the down payment) and for some reason the housing market had dried up a lot for a few years. I told myself any excess money I have beyond the down payment + settling in money and such that I could use to put into collecting, so it all just ended up in totes and boxes for years.
Just this year though I finally found the right house and had enough money on hand to grab it. Unfortunately with that new expense my funding for collecting is also basically shot dead for now. I hope to return full blown next year but this year, mostly focusing on just setting up so I can finally play all the stuff i've been accumulating. My fiancee collects a little bit, mostly on DS and Wii, but she also really likes Skylanders and Disney infinity stuff. It's actually how the arrangement came to be that i'd get the whole basement, in that she would at least want an area for her toys so we stuck them all above the couch. Where she plans to put the ones she buys from here on though, no clue on that
Just wanted to ask: is there any battery leakage on the Famitsu GB Light where the batteries used to be? Were they there when you got it or removed before?
Thanks! I've always been into Xbox and have been getting more into it lately. I'm looking forward to some new shelves that I can properly display games on since they are currently double stacked at the moment.

There is no leakage in the case or in the console thankfully. It did not have the batteries in there when I got it, most of the ones you see all have the batteries taken out as they do tend to just make a lot of mess.

Most i've seen have actually kept the batteries to the point that they caused leakage on the cardboard. It's a shame considering how limited run this version had but then again, there are probably even more that simply threw the packaging away.
Is there supposed to be a blue instruction manual with this set (and where does it stay)?

Where'd you get those shelves? they seem to hold games really well.
The shelving is from Ikea, specifically called a billy bookcase. They come in multiple colors (3 I think), and are very moddable in general. I think they come with 4 or 5 shelves by default but you can buy more shelving seperately to add more and more to the setup. Having to build that many shelves meant I had to go quite a few trips
Aside the additional shelves, we also bought some of these units for a seperate room we have on the main floor that we use to house all our movies and books, and for those ones we bought glass panel doors as well as extension units that make the bookshelf longer. I didn't care to put those sort of things on the ones in the basement since I was going to store game console boxes on top anyways and it wouldn't work that way, but their very moddable. The base book shelf is 80 bucks which is a good deal for how sturdy they feel (if you press down on the shelf, it doesn't bend really, not like a lot of crappy ones)
Assembly is easy, in my case though I like my games to be more towards the front and not in deep, so I had to put some spacers in the back so the games would remain in the front, but that was the only draw back. I ultimately wanted shelves I could double layer (1 layer in the back and one in the front for games) just in case I ever somehow outgrew the area, but that shouldn't happen anytime soon
Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention they also sell what they call corner hardware, and of course some slimmer versions of the same case as I own some in order to make them measure better. The corner hardware is basically a small metal bracket set (you get 2 in one bag). You place the metal brackets under both the shelf in the corner, but also the 2 shelving units you want it to connect to (or 1 if it's the end I guess) so it helps hold them in place, then there are 2 tiny things you can screw in to the top of the corner and 2 shelves to keep them in place up there too.
They were a nice option, above the couch are floating shelves though, unrelated to the rest of them but they are from ikea too, heh.

I dont know if these blister back sort of ones had any instructions with them honestly. I would assume if you got the mail order boxed one there would be instructions with it for sure.

Any time I wanna feel jealous I come to this page.
That's funny because people that don't consider themselves collectors are jealous of my stuff. I always tell them my collection is incredibly small compared to all the collectors on this forum. I'm still proud of what I have but darn all these other collectors and all the stuff I wish I had. lol
Been a while but not a whole lot has changed I suppose, definitely slowed down collecting the last couple of years. I didn't bother digging through boxes and definitely left stuff out, but this is probably the stuff I care about the most. Reposts I'm sure but figured I would re-up and contribute to the new thread.
My favorite shelf. Pales in comparison to many collections on here, but I'm satisfied with it.
PS1, PS2, Gamecube, some Saturn, Wii, PS3, Dreamcast, NES repros/hacks. Loving this shelf more now that I have finished my PS1 RPG set.
My only two protos, but I love them. Obviously the EB proto is my personal favorite, but I also love me some TNG and an NA member was cool enough to hook me up with it at a very reasonable price.
My only VGA item. I really like this one since I personally bought it in 1999 and kept it brand new ever since. Finally decided to send it in for my first VGA submission earlier this year. Extremely satisfied with the grade and the nice acrylic case.
World of Nintendo sign. Best part about this one was that I found it on Craigslist...for free! Switch needed to be repaired, but that only ended up costing a whopping $8. I don't usually get anything decent on CL, but this one I lucked out on for sure.
Just some SNES repros, hacks, and my DS/3DS games (most of them at least).
Custom painted NES and SNES courtesy of CustomNESguy here on NA. Beautiful work, I still am on the fence about getting an N64 from him!
Some Earthbound stuff. If anyone here owns the "Campout" #7 edition of Mother 3 let me know. Would love to have all #7's!
Repost, but didn't feel like taking a new picture. Trophy figures, jacket, Game & Watch, etc were in this pic so figured it was easier that way. Only thing not included I think is just the CE Majora's Mask LE that was recently released.

The setup isn't entirely done as i'm still thinking about how to wire the security system, hide wires and organize a bit, as well as adding a few more consoles and of course, collecting more over time. Still, it's a lot of years work so it's worth showing off anyways to me
I took a bunch of pictures here http://s952.photobucket.com/user/...
I've enjoyed looking at these topics for so long that it feels nice to finally have one to call my own
What an epic room! Super jelly

Gameboy Lights
Just wanted to ask: is there any battery leakage on the Famitsu GB Light where the batteries used to be? Were they there when you got it or removed before?
There is no leakage in the case or in the console thankfully. It did not have the batteries in there when I got it, most of the ones you see all have the batteries taken out as they do tend to just make a lot of mess.
Most i've seen have actually kept the batteries to the point that they caused leakage on the cardboard. It's a shame considering how limited run this version had but then again, there are probably even more that simply threw the packaging away.
Is there supposed to be a blue instruction manual with this set (and where does it stay)?
I dont know if these blister back sort of ones had any instructions with them honestly. I would assume if you got the mail order boxed one there would be instructions with it for sure.

So much to look at! I like the corner shelves

Haha, same here man. So much cool stuff here.
Also, it's sweet to see all the crazy ways people have their collections set up.

That's funny because people that don't consider themselves collectors are jealous of my stuff. I always tell them my collection is incredibly small compared to all the collectors on this forum. I'm still proud of what I have but darn all these other collectors and all the stuff I wish I had. lol
