SNES Kiosk Help Requested
Hey NA, longtime reader, very rare poster here, in search of your expertise.
I recently picked up a SNES kiosk for a good deal off of a Facebook garage sale group. It is the tall kind, fair condition minus the missing system cover/controller holders, maybe a couple other small things. The issue it has, which I have read on here is common, is that the color is washed out. I've read that it is generally a capacitor issue but that also it could be a bad SCART cable. I have contacted several pinball/arcade repair people in the area but no one wants to even touch it.
I was wondering if anyone knew of anything I could do to narrow down the issue to the caps, if I should track down a SCART cable or not. Also if anyone knew anyone within the greater Washington DC area with the right credentials who is willing to fix this sort of thing. Thanks in advance.

An arcade operator once told me it was a flyback, but haven't had the time to take a look yet.
Good luck!

Do you know how to solder ?
I think I still have a spare set of caps I would be willing to send you for free.
The ones to replace are inside of the scart cable.
Before.
and after. (the waves are just the camera taking a picture of the screen)
mine needed a new sync chip, about $150

That would be killer, I have a few friends who are better at soldering than me, could get one of them to do it. I would at least like to ship you 10 bucks on paypal or something for them.

Question for you. Are the caps in the actual cable, so you have to find a way to pull the connector apart that connects to the port on the mother board?

A nice warm, public thank you to everharm, I received my caps today, and I'm working myself up to putting them in. I will post back here when it is done (or if I have stupid questions).

Yes,
the big end connector has a part that unscrews, the you can pry apart the head. It is made to do this so nothing should be breaking or damaged.
Other general questions:
Was it common to remove the cartridge door on the kiosk SNES systems? Mine didn't have one for some reason.
What would happen if I plugged the SNES into the red/yellow/white jack under the SCART connection to the motherboard? Would it work but without the better picture?
Just bumping this thread to ask a question. I seem to be having the same issue with my kiosk ask the original poster. I've had mine a few years and have been putting off fixing it. Anyway, if the scart cable is the issue, is it not possible to just replace the cable rather than doing any soldering/recapping etc? is it more complicated than that? I haven't taken mine completely apart, and I know next to nothing about fixing electronics, so forgive me if I'm missing something.

It is cheaper to replace the caps than getting a new cable, it's just that.
