PS1 power question

i recently purchased ntsc j ps1 scph 5500 off ebay w,out power cord. i was planning to use my scph 9001 ac,but found it has the square output on one prong and wont fit in scph 5500. so i look for ps1 ac on ebay and find on with standard barrel output. now here is the question, i notice output is 125v for scph 9001 and 100v for scph 5500 (although the scph 9001 i have originally came with 120v ac)  so if i buy this cable will it power scph 5500 w.out over voltage issue?? i dont want to fry the system.

also,i updated an old thread so i wont start a new thread. furthermore if PS questions are not applicable on NA let me know. figure i would try here instead of having to make a new account on another forum.

  • i would think so. i dont think the power would differ fom region to region as far as output from an ac adapter. it should be fine.
  • Yes, all N64 consoles are compatible with all N64 AC adapters. Use the adapter appropriate for your region.
  • update 8/3 with new topic
  • It's common for 100v devices to tolerate the USA. How likely damage really is, people seem to disagree on.

I suppose some items might be 50 cycles only. Japan has that weird 50hz/60hz power grid thing...
  • The 5xxx and 9xxx do the AC to DC conversion internally, you just need to feed the console AC from the wall

Are these consoles from the same region? I think Japan uses ~100 while the US uses ~110-120. It should be fine as most electronics have a 10% tolerance.
  • the 9001 is ntsc u/c , the 5500 is ntsc j .. just would hate to fry $40 CIB system with a $2 ac cord....
  • can anyone give me a definitive yes or no answer?? don't want the ps1 to sit forever as a paper weight
  • You could get a new US power supply board for the Japanese PS1 that way you know it will handle the extra AC voltage, they both output the same DC voltage
  • does it have to be off scph 5501 ? I have spare scph 1001 ntsc u/c, but not scph 5001.
  • I never had a problem plugging a non-polarized plug into a polarized input on any models of the gray PS1 I used over the years.
