Splatoon thread!
First video review:
I have to disagree with the guy. He complained about the price but Nintendo confirmed that all the future DLC will be free! (9 new maps, 2 gamemodes and 1 weapon announced so far).
What do you guys think?

90/100:
BEST FEATURES:
· The online stability and the "camouflage" concept allow to have an extremely fun experience.
· The wide range of weapons and clothing to customise our characters.
WORST ASPECTS:
· The initial amount of maps is scarce, although it will be extended free of charge.
· The unbalance among weapons give advantage to the Splat Roller and the Splattershot (and short-range weapons) against the Splat Charger (and other long-range weapons).
-----
GRAPHICS: 91. Developers have worked very well on physics and ink textures/reflexes and there is no lag at all. This is a colour party.
SOUND: 85. The electronic melodies are the most bizarre and hypnotic composition that Minegishi has created. The SFX of the ink is good.
LENGHT: 76. The single player mode is about 7 hours and the online mode is everlasting, but the 5 initial maps are more sushi than octopus.
FUN: 93. Very addictive, fresh and challenging, even though some weapons "dye" more than others. Spurts of adrenalin.
----
"Splatoon is a reason to own a Wii U. It is the most fluid, frenetic and enjoyable online experience along with MK8, only hampered by the initial lack of content and the absence of an online chat. This is an addictive game that will greatly improve with future updates.

I do have to add that I heard there was no 2-player Split-screen Online Multiplayer. Which to me is a bit of a blow. but There should be Co-Op Missions to make up for it.
I'm confused about this though: "singleplayer (without amiibo) only mediocre, long walking distances". What does that mean? If I don't buy the Amiibos then my walk is slower or can't fast travel or what? I don't plan on buying the Amiibos. But I still can't wait for this game! It needs to hurry up and release before I ink myself! 2 more days!

Wrong formatting, the amiibo add new challenge missions to get gear.
Oh I gotcha. So those challenge missions are not available unless we have the amiibo?

One big con for me right now is the lack of partying. You can troll into a friends game but you can't team up with them until the update in August. Other than that I had a lot of fun on the test fire days I was able to join. I am a little worried of the game getting redundant. The matches are super short and with only a couple maps I could see this getting tiresome.
Yeah sadly I'm starting to see how the game might feel very repetitive very quickly. It sucks because it sounds like a lot of fun...but for how long? Even with free DLC coming. It just doesn't sound like enough content even if the core game is really solid and fun. That's also pretty stupid you can't join multiplayer matches with friends. I might actually wait on this one.

It's just hard to set goals with rounds this short. I remember playing Goldeneye WIi and other FPS games looking to get the most kills or other personal challenges, but with only three minutes I don't really see that being the case here. I had a lot of fun with the game, but how long will it last. Even Mario Kart has started to get old and there are tons of tracks, racers, etc.
I just hope the variety of perks and frequent DLC updates will help keep it fresh.

Exactly. I got nearly a year out of Mario Kart but I've grown bored of it. I still play it from time to time but only in very short bursts. I suppose Splatoon would be the same but from the sound of it it wouldn't last me but about a week in its current state. I'll wait til all the updates are out and then reassess whether or not this game is for me.
SO if I am reading right, I cant hop on a random match by myself until august? I will need to have a team of at my house to play online until august?

No you have it backwards. You can hop on a random match starting Friday. You can't choose your team mates til the update in August. This meaning you can't play with your friends online til they update it (which is kind of stupid that they don't have this option already but whatevs.) But if you're interested in joining random battles then you can do that come launch day.

From what I've read, yes you'd be out of luck. Local multiplayer seems to only support 1 vs 1, so 2 people total. Playing with friends online is near impossible right now unless you magically end up in the same match somehow. I don't have the game nor have I played the tesfire but from everything I've read about the game the update that's coming in August will fix these issues.

No lol. You can play by yourself, but in August you will be able to play with your friends in the same team.
I guess I better cancel the party
Throw in the content locked stuff meaning I have to drop $15 more at least to get "everything" means I'll wait until I can pick this up used on the cheap.

Yeah unfortunately. It doesn't even sound like you can have 2 people play locally and join you online. It sounds like this game has a very heavy focus of playing online. Local multiplayer is an afterthought. I'm all for online multiplayer but I didn't think that the online portion would be 90% of the total game. In several reviews people state not to buy the game for its single player campaign and it's very short and doesn't do anything particularly impressive.

The local multiplayer is a tough one. I'm not sure as I thought the game needed the gamepad. I could be wrong about that. All I know is if you play online you CAN join your friends but it's random on what team you are on. I'm also not sure how they are going to deal with a full lobby. Will you have to keep search? Will you spectate like Mario Kart? Will you sit at a mini game until a spot becomes available? I'm just not sure. The one thing I am sure of is you CANNOT party up with you friends before a match. Even in August you'll need 4 people to party up.... it can't be 3 and 1 random. All or nothing which is also kinda lame.

That last part sounds really lame. As far as waiting for matches they give you a few minigames to play while you're waiting which is kind of neat. But I dunno....I'm so hesitant to get this now. The gameplay sounds awesome but I'm tired of buying games that I'll play for a few hours then never touch again. I feel like it might get old very quickly.

The fact that you can't talk to others online has made me not want to buy the game.
Most other FPS style games are not designed for kids, too many adults and cussing, etc. This is a game designed for kids that everyone happens to enjoy. Better to not have open mics and to keep this game light and fresh like many other Nintendo franchise games.

If it's any consolation, from my experience with the demo (which only included 2 maps) I didn't get tired of either one in 3 hrs and wanted to keep playing them, even using the same weapon set I liked. That's probably not saying much though, since they were spaced apart of course . In the full game if the single player is 8-10hrs, multiplayer should last at least 10hrs (I expect closer to 20) before getting tired of it. So I guess if that amount of time isn't worth the early purchase, that's up to you and waiting until August might be a good idea.
I don't mind getting it near launch and seeing how long it lasts because then I can pick it back up in August when there's more reasons to play it and extend the value.
Offline mode will be a one-on-one balloon type thing from what I found. One person uses the tablet the other uses the pro controller. Again, no 4 play offline modes, as far as I know.
It's basically designed to be a single player multiplayer game if that makes any sense. Pretty poor decisions in my opinion. Having said that I will still be buying it.
