Phew played a lot last night we friends..... Very fun. Will be great i can imagine for playing online by myself but.......and they may already be planning something for august but i think they really need to add a 4 on 1 game like nintendoland where 1 person has the gamepad ans the other 4 are worming against him on the tv. Maybe something like the gamepad dude sneaks around and trys to steal flags while the other 4 blast him. Just a thiught as i had 4 guys over and we all thought what a great game and what a shame we couldnt all play.
Some thoughts on why Nintendo did the 2-map 4 hour rotation and no weapon select during a match.
This is obviously a game you want to play with friends, but what about when everyone is at your house for Splatoon party? This is where 2-map 4 hour comes in. You have a group of friends over. Instead of doing 2 or 4 player split screen, you do 1 player online. You play a match, next match hand the controller over to your friend so they can play a match. The friends who aren't playing get to watch the matches and help out by yelling info or cheering or whatever. Then friend hands it to next friend and the controller makes the rounds.
That way everyone gets to experience the same map a couple times to get used to it without being overburdened by too many complex maps, the other players get to learn the layouts before playtime starts and each person would get a couple turns each hour to play since matches are only three minutes long.
Weapon select before you even join a lobby I think is a good thing. There will be numerous unlockable weapons as you advance levels. If you find you are getting creamed by paint roller a lot, it will make you find a weapon in the next match that has shield or can kill paint roller quickly. It could make the game very unfair for teams if you can change weapons based on what others are using. Basically in every COD game you can change weapon next time you spawn, which helps counter whatever the other guy is using that is wasting you. In this game you have to learn to adapt to it instead of avoiding the problem.
Nintendo is distancing itself from any other FPS franchise when making this game. This is NOT Call of Duty, it's Splatoon. It's not made to be anything like COD, which is why I like it.
I get some of the worst teammates sometimes. I choose to be a paint roller now because anytime someone else is trying to be one and im a standard blaster , they suck miserably at it.
Big News, Ranked battles is open tonight at 7pm pacific, and a new Map and NES Zapper weapons are included as well in the update. Glad to see a new map so soon, free of course!
I'll make sure I'm at level 10 by that time, I'll have 4 hours after work to get from Level 8 to 10 before 7pm hits. By the way not sure if it was mentioned or not, but Splatoon was available for $50 over at Fred Meyer instead of $60 everywhere else. Price fluke or what I don't know, but I did pick it up there on day one for that price. So if anyone is interested to save money, go there.
All these posts make it hard to resist getting this game. I'm very very tempted to pick this up today... Even if I did want to wait. Glad to see everyone enjoying it so much.
I have seen splatoon commercials frequently, so good for Nintendo actually doing some ads! They are still very poor about getting the WiiU name out tho. It is just a small logo in the corner for a second at the end.
I had the most hilarious encounter with a Kraken yesterday. This guy activated it and I was cornered, so I went in little circles and survived as he kept trying to hit me
@Kraken Soup: One of the charged weapons is "The Kraken", so this game is right up your alley!
The kraken is super effective.
Haven't used it yet. I hate swimming from it!
Lol its fun to chase people... Just track people down, chase after them them tap x and boom enemy destroyed
And yeah i won a match by .1% once. Everyone abandoned our base area and were painting the other side allowing way too much penetration. I was a roller so i took it upon myself to fix the base. There isnt a voice chat but if there was they would need to recognize i saved their ass.

Nice.
That reminds me. How many use rollers here? I'm more splattershot.

Online still makes me laugh.
Im at level 10. How does ranked battle work?
The only problem I have with the game is that it is VERY hard to get into a new group.
Other than that, perfect!

Oh I have no doubt that I will. I just hope it lasts me more than a week. I'm sure it will as long as I don't overindulge myself :-P

My best overall performance is 1358, 9-0 on Saltspray. Also have a couple in the 1400s on skatepark with a few less kills.
Usually stick to Splattershot Jr. w/bubbler and AeroSpray w/inkstrike.
I've gotten to +10 winning streak twice before losing.
I think Saltspray is my favorite since it's so large with a lot of different ways to play it.
Still getting used to Ranked Battles (at C), I'll probably focus on those today.
