I heard if you get the same gear ability more than once in a single gear, it doesn't do any extra. Any truth to this?
It has diminishing returns, but it does add to the total (according to Judd). If you had 2 defense abilities you'll be stronger, but 3 isn't much more.
I'm getting a lot of "You are not connected to the internet" error codes yesterday and today, only when playing Splatoon. I clearly am connected as my laptop and tablet are working fine. Anyone else having issues? There was an update yesterday which I did perform but it didn't resolve the problem. It fixes itself for an hour or two by restarting the console, but I shouldn't have to do that. I can play any other online game all day without this issue.

Same here. A bunch of error codes tonight. Not sure what the issue is but like you my tablet and laptop connect fine.
Cant stand the bazooka blaster style gun players that just shoot a shot go in ink jump shoot jump shoot. Its the most annoying opponent other than camping snipers in a turf war
Aerospray is excellent, it's my primary for all modes now. Just wish I could change the secondary a bit, but it has proven useful many times so I'll keep it as is.
New map Port Mackerel is good, I've become much better at avoiding the snipers so that helps.

When do you get to buy that one? Havent visited the weapon store for a couple levels. Im level 14 now.
Can't figure out which weapons I like best. Not a fan of the chargers though. I'm liking the new map but it was already out by the time I got the game. I like all the levels honestly.
Does anyone here have the amiibos for this game? If so are the challenges worth buying them for? I really don't want to buy them but if the new levels you get are cool enough I might.

I wish I bought the Amiibos, i've seen some cool gear you get from them, but since I didn't get them at release, i'm not paying a scalper double+ for them. If you find them in a store, grab a set.

I used the inkling boy one. You need to beat campaign first. You replay the missions with a twist. I only beat the first 2 worlds so i played the 1st mission and 2nd. After you beat the 3rd you get something. . You have to beat them with a paint roller. Not that hard. I didnt play the final stage. I believe you get something when you beat each set of 3 stages. You get cash for beating each level.

Havent used the girl or squid yet.
Oh OK so do you think I'd be missing out if I didn't get them? Sold out everywhere and prices online are ridic.
So I had pre-ordered this game on eBay and it finally arrived in the mail today. My first impression is pretty positive. However, the game can be brutally unfair in terms of team stacking. When I was level 1-3 I would get put against teams full of people levels 11-20 and it's just a slaughter. It evens out a bit once you reach level 4 and can actually buy stuff.

Just wait till they are restocked. They definitely will be. Itll give you something to do then.

Yeah i didnt experience that. Not many were too ahead of me since i played at launch. Sucks it took so long for your pre order.
IMHO, the extra content from the amiibos isn't worth paying for alone. All you get from each amiibo is some money, one outfit (school outfit from Inkling Girl, samurai armor from Inkling boy, and power armor from the squid), an 8-bit game to add to the in-game arcade (squidball, squid racer, and squid beats), and one weapon reskin (charger reskin from girl, roller reskin from boy, splattershot reskin from squid). I would only get them if you like the figures themselves, or just really really like the way the outfits/weapons look.
Although, I'll admit I did really enjoy the challenges from the squid, because in most of them you get to blast through the levels as a kraken, which was fun.
I'm pretty bummed about the Amiibo for this game and won't buy them, $35 to unlock on-disc content is pretty outrageous. Surprising considering how well DLC has been handled by Nintendo on the whole. They should've let any 3 Amiibo do the trick. I'd try to borrow them from someone if possible.

You have to nickname them so i think their is save data on them. If you borrowed them then you would gave to rewrite them and lose other persons data.

Actually it is possible to use them for multiple systems, it's been tested. The Amiibos apparently don't save anything just allow access to the missions.

Then why does it make you nickname each one? That would require saving it right? Smash does the same thing and is save data on the amiibo.

You're required to Nickname it just to use it, it doesn't tie it to a system. For Smash the nickname allows you to bring them to other peoples houses and battle with their Amiibos (the whole point in that game really). In Smash you have to tap the Amiibo twice, once before to create your custom fighter, then again after battles to save the level ups and items.
In Splatoon, tapping the Amiibo just unlocks the challenges and you don't need to use the Amiibo to save your challenges, that gets saved to the system. You do need to tap them again if you turn off your console to replay the levels, but after you beat it once, you keep the money, gear, etc forever. Even if you have to reset the Nickname, the original owner wouldn't lose their content. I haven't tested it of course, but google searches tell me this.
No problems with connects today, played a ton of Ranked and got up to a high C+ before losing a few matches. Now at an average C+ ranking. Finally got 3 star gear too so I'm pretty happy about that.
I had a disconnect earlier, right after I plunked 2 people with one bomb
That happened to me once today on Arowana Mall, me and a teammate got stuck next to each other on one of the wooden ramps in the middle and we both got splatted by one bomb thrown by someone up on a higher platform. If that was you, nice shot! That was embarrassing though lol.
Anyhow I finally got to 10 so I tried out ranked battles. 2 things were immediately apparent to me: 1.) it is way harder than regular battles 2.) the lag seems to be way worse. I almost never see any significant lag when playing turf wars but man, almost all my ranked matches had people teleporting everywhere, me getting splatted by somebody ten seconds after I splatted them, ink not showing up on the ground, etc. Maybe it's a higher percentage of Japanese players playing ranked, or just the fact you're always fighting up close in ranked, but it was frustrating. I'll try it out some more when I get to a higher level I think. Also, I could definitely see a use for voice chat in ranked mode, but I for sure would still want it to be friends only. If I had said all the things I wanted to say while playing, and everyone else was too...well that wouldn't be very nice lol.
I'm at level 19 now and I'm pretty ready for a break. I'm still having fun but I re-watched the direct from last month which clarified how often we'll get new content. The new maps (looks like 6-8 more), gears, weapons, and 2 more ranked modes will be added between now and August, not just at the August update which I think most people assume. So I'll probably pop in each time some new content comes out every 1-2 weeks.
