I had a disconnect earlier, right after I plunked 2 people with one bomb
That happened to me once today on Arowana Mall, me and a teammate got stuck next to each other on one of the wooden ramps in the middle and we both got splatted by one bomb thrown by someone up on a higher platform. If that was you, nice shot! That was embarrassing though lol.
Anyhow I finally got to 10 so I tried out ranked battles. 2 things were immediately apparent to me: 1.) it is way harder than regular battles 2.) the lag seems to be way worse. I almost never see any significant lag when playing turf wars but man, almost all my ranked matches had people teleporting everywhere, me getting splatted by somebody ten seconds after I splatted them, ink not showing up on the ground, etc. Maybe it's a higher percentage of Japanese players playing ranked, or just the fact you're always fighting up close in ranked, but it was frustrating. I'll try it out some more when I get to a higher level I think. Also, I could definitely see a use for voice chat in ranked mode, but I for sure would still want it to be friends only. If I had said all the things I wanted to say while playing, and everyone else was too...well that wouldn't be very nice lol.
That was the map I did it on. I actually did it again a few rounds later. Probably never do it again, but its a pretty satisfying feeling.
The maps I played last night, Arowana Mall and the skate park weren't as good for me, my scores were generally a lot lower. The first night I played I was always 800-1000 points, and I was in the 400-800 range almost every game last night. Even when i'd lead kills 8-1, I was down in points. I unlocked the aerospray MG before bed, so that will be fun to try out.
Ugh. Doing terrible tonight. Inkbrush dropped and everybody seems to be a pro with it instantly, and I can't seem to get a win to save my life even with my best weapons! Think I'm gonna call it quits for today.

Splatoon for sure. It's hot right now, lots of people playing, and its fun as hell.
Epic comeback in ranked battle tonight. Team down i think it was 76-2 remaining. We made the surge. But their werent enough seconds. Overtime came and boooom we win with 1 remaining at the buzzer.
I died by far the most but my one kill of the paintbrush strategic position a-hole started the surge. That was awesome!!!
Yeah lots of paint brush dominance tonight. Pretty shitty battles tonight, won a lot, but my scores were god awful. I have 1 star gear and i'm playing against people with fully leveled up stuff, which is kind of frustrating.
Much better night tonight. Mostly wins, even in ranked. Finally figured out the inkbrush more or less and it's one of my top weapons now. Also beat my highest score in turf wars with 1408p. I saw one Japanese dude get 1933p tonight though, it was ridiculous.
Dude above is right. Its like the paintbrush was instantly mastered by the asian wii u community
This.
Reached level 20! Now I can buy extra slots. For the record you can also reroll old slots you're not happy with, BUT, you have to change all 3 sub abilities. And you cant change the main AFAIK.
Last night wasn't too bad. The roller and Kraken combo is such an annoying loadout to go up against. With the lag there is a good chance they can just spam the roller or the special, if they have it, and go get a mutual kill. Kinda like a noob tube loadout. Lots of paintbrushes last night for sure, but I didn't really mind. I find them generally pretty easy to dodge.
Two things I really don't like about this game are the balance and the two map rotation. I'm not joking when I say I played the same map 9/10 matches last night. I also find the balance frustrating, especially in ranked mode. I find you either get smoked or absolutely dominate, rarely are there really close matches. The maps with two separate splat zones tend to be a little more balanced, but the maps with one giant zone end in a 100-0 win/loss more times than not. If you lose a player or someone loses connection you're basically stuck with the loss. As far as I can tell your rank pretty much reflects how much time you put in since it's almost impossible to carry a team in this game.
Being level 8 sucks because I'm only ever put against level 20's and just lose.
Do most people use the wii u pro controller for this?
You can't use the pro controller, unless you strap a wiimote to it. It requires the gamepad.
I'm in the same boat, once I hit level 8/9, I seemed to get in a group with players with fully leveled gear and all the weapons. On the plus side it helps you learn to be better at the game, need to be better at sneaking up on enemies rather than trying to just outgun them.

That's what I'm starting to notice, sneaking up on people and learning how to time your ultimate attack is really important. I suck with using the kraken thing though...

Best use of the Kraken is to save it until either you get ambushed and are about to die (Kraken is invulnerable to ink), allowing you to take out the enemy/get away, or until you spot several enemies close together, allowing you to splat a few of them and buy some time for your team. It's pretty useless for covering turf but it's a great weapon for offense and defense. Also remember you need to jump to splat enemies.
If you're having trouble just controlling it though, IDK what to tell you lol.
Can you save supers? I thought they went once you got splatered.
Not totally. You lose a big chunk of your special meter when you get splattered, but there's a gear effect that reduces how much you lose. There's also an effect that speeds up how fast your meter charges. But you can't entirely save a special after you get splattered. So most of the time it's better to use a special quickly after you get it.

Yeah, I use that ability. As much as I wanted to wear my amiibo clothes, I would rather look homeless and be a squid god!

Saw that on the case. I was wondering where that came into play.

long story short, I got salty as hell when my SSB/GameCube adapter bundle got canceled, and never bought the game. Mostly over it now.
The main ability you use for gear does more than the sub abilities. And having more than 2 of the same ability negates them. This made me laugh.

If you're on the fence and already have a Wii U, get it!
Without internet you cant even buy the gear in the shops. This game is very online dependant
