  • I'm surprised more people didn't start the game by doing the campaign first. It teaches how to be ready for any situation and is great practice to get your movement down before getting online. It was the first thing I finished and even though I was matched up against higher levels online early one, I was consistently the 1st or 2nd best on my team. And you get 2 sets of 2-star gear after beating it which is great at levels 1-10.
  • Played a couple turf war matches last night and decided to record a couple. I thought you guys would like the ending to this one. Feel free to check this very short Splatoon clip.

Yeah it's really the first thing you should do simply for the gear, if you're level 1 and have 2 star gear, you'll dominate early. Definitely helps with movement and stuff too, some of the octolings play like real people.
  • ok so my only gripe is there any way I don't have to see those 2 octobimbos tell me about the stages everytime they change or I start the game up? I mean is there a reason anyone would care? You see the stages when you decide to play online anyway I guess I don't see the point

No and no. The whole two map rotation thing is pretty much BS in my opinion. Not to mention you typically play one of the two maps 80% of the time.
  • I've hit the wall.

100% story and highest level in regular battle. Haven't touched ranked yet. I may hate what I see...
  • I don't really care about the map rotation, but I don't need to hear about it. That news video coming up every time I start the game is such a bummer. I'm forced to hit A 20 times just to start the game. Just give me the option to hit + and skip it!
  • You guys just aren't staying fresh enough, clearly.

Ranked is awesome...when you have minimally competent teammates.  For example, I had one match today where I had twice a many kills as deaths, but the other three on my team were a combined 1 kill versus 21 deaths!  Obviously that is an extreme example but when something like that happens, wow, it is pretty frustrating.

There have been some absolutely awesome matches though, ones that are super close or go to "overtime" to determine the winner.   Really great when the teams are evenly matched.   Unfortunately given the ranking system even people who are B- can be far worse than someone who is a C, so there are too many uneven matches for my liking.  I hope they change the ranking system to discern people's skill levels better and match up the teams more evenly with consistency.

  • Can you enter ranked with friends? So you can roll opponents?

    Agreed!

If the whole world would come to realize this, it would be a much better place!
  • Lol I try to stay fresh! But really the constant reminder to stay fresh is literally the only complaint I have about this game. Otherwise I can't praise it enough!

No because Nintendo has decided they don't want people to get pub stomped. With the patch in August you will be able to but you need a full team. You have to be partied with 3 other people and you only play against other teams of four partied members.

This still pisses me off that you can't team up in a team based game. Nintendo loves their randomness. Even in ranked mode your rank is pretty much 100% dependant on time played as you typically get 20 points for a win and lose 10 for a loss. It's almost impossible to carrry a team in this mode with 1 or 2 shitty team mates so it ends up being a coin flip if you'll win or not.

I'm also not a fan of the one zone ranked maps. I much prefer the splat zone maps with two zones. Much more balanced.

Yes, my concern exactly, if that's what you are eluding to. I'm pretty much in the same boat. all I have to do is reroll my shirt so that I get better secondary abilities. Other than that I have nothing to do in the game and with only a couple maps I could see my play time pretty much drop to zero over the next week or two until the patch.

Meh im not playing to level up. Im playing just for fun.

When you get to C+ i was only gaining 12 for a win. Not 20
  • Kelp Dome is open tonight at 7pm pt.
  • Just bought it, and boy is it awesome! Gonna give the online matches and the solo campaign a serious playthrough in the next few days I think.

First time I bought a game for a newer system this year, and it was worth it

I'd highly recommend doing the solo campaign first, before you level up too high. You get some pretty slick rewards that will really help you dominate your first few hours of multiplayer.

It's a short campaign and you learn a lot of tricks, and some of the maps too.

Hm, I already got to LVL 6. I don't really have anything to do tomorrow so I might as well do that campaign

It's not a huge loss, but around level 8-10 you'll outgrow the gear you get from the campaign.

  • Whats everyones grades? Im at a b- but barely played ranked.

To get to b- you would have had to play quite a few matches atleast 30-40 and basically winning almost all of them

I was a B- with 90 points and then got on tonight and lost 5 in a row either by someone losing connection, losing connection myslef, or just terrible, terrible team mates. I'm quickly losing interest in this game as the lag is really bad with Japanese players and there is little you can do about losing even if you play well yourself. This game is really frustrating when you have bad team mates which happens for at least half the matches.

I basically went up and down after my initial losing streak and ended the night B- with 50-60 pts. I just don't see the point of playing anymore as I really don't enjoy the game when you're just getting whipped. There are so few matches that I play that are close, almost always a wash one way or the other.

Dude log out. Log back in. You'll get out of that teammate mix. When you keep playing it'll keep giving you a lot of the same teammates.
  • Also im only level 17 so i dont think i played that much. The games are so short.
  • Enjoying the new map. Haven't really got a worst one.

Hopefully they make new gear. Pretty sure I've seen 90% of what's on offer.
