What is this PSX game I'm remembering?

It was a multiplayer 3D battle game with a TV-show theme. Very Japanese. You run around attacking each other and eventually level up different move sets. The only one I remember is a meteor-type spell. Any help is appreciated!

  • I know this isn't it but the meteor spell reminds me of Unholy War
  • Yeah, definitely not that. More of an arena/party game vibe to this one. Lots of other attacks to choose from, maybe bombs and stuff.
  • Blast Chamber?

X2 thats my guess too, but for fucks sake, its not a PSX!

  • It wasn't Blazt Chamber, though I have fond memories of playing that demo with my brother!
    And it wasn't X2 either.

Hmm, gotta think! What is this game in my head!? Lol
  • Sounds like Diablo, but I don't think they had meteor until Diablo 2

    Legend of Legaia perhaps?
  • Trap gunner comes to mind. On another note, some of these suggestions are quite bad lol.
  • Maybe you got your systems mixed up and you're thinkin power stone for Dreamcast?
  • Sounds a lot like Evil Zone.

  • Poy Poy.  Multiplayer battle arena game kind of like Bomberman.  Gameshow announcer.  You could buy special moves/gloves, the ultimate being meteor which seems cheap till you learn to stand to the side of the screen to avoid it.  Fun game.  Also JP only sequel which is more of the same.

The sequel came out in Europe too.
  • Poy Poy!! That's it! Thanks so much for figuring it out. and thanks to everyone else, too. It was fun watching the guess come in!

I remember a really fun weekend renting Poy Poy when I first got a PSX and playing the hell out of it with my friends!

You owned a PSX back in the day?

I wonder why so many people misuse PSX when they mean PS/PS1/PSone
  • PSX was the nickname for the system when it came out. That's why there were magazines at the time called "PSX" and "PS Extreme." Way more people think of the PS1 as PSX than that later machine - it'll always be the PSX to me.

This.  Everyone called it PSX when it was current, and most people always will.  Why would we have called it PS1 before we knew there would be a PS2? ;-)

  • To pester one of my friends I always ask him "Do you think they'll ever make PS5?" Replace PS5 with whatever the current version is +1. I've been doing this since PS2 came out and just up the number each time a new one is released.

Sorry; not everyone called it a PSX. I never called it a PSX even when magazines were doing it because it didn't make any sense. As a matter of fact nobody I knew at the time did either. I only called it PlayStation at the time. Now I call it PS1.

  • psx rules. nobody cares about that weird japanese dvd burner. stop trying to showoff. we all know it exists.

No one is trying to "show-off" except for maybe you with such rude comments. People misusing acronyms, and I was just pointing it out. I, also, did not know anyone who referred to the Playstation as PSX when it was new. It was the PS or Playstation around here. To each their own though...

I always think about this, as well, when a new playstation console is released.. haha

  • I think, could be wrong, but that it's called PSx because in computer terms x is sometimes used instead of 1. The issue being that computers see zero as one and people think of one as one so in programing I've seen it like that. I know on old forums where files had to be split some software would call it "gamepartx, gamepart2, etc..."

    Again, I could be wrong.

The real PSX was unheard of in North America so it certainly had no bearing on it at all.

As I recall PSX was first used when the PS2 debuted. No one said PS1 until the PSone came out.
  • It was always "playstation" around here. I never even heard of psx until way after it's lifespan.

so maybe my reply was slightly rude but every time someone posts anything about the playstation and inevitably the acronym psx is used someone feels the need to point out that there was a japanese ps2 called the psx.  We get it.  It was a known acronym back in the day and the volume of usage backs that even more.  I don't understand what the point of pointing out that later on sony decided to officially claim the acronym for a device.
