Fake earthbound, and people are bidding on it!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Earthbound-1995-Super-Nintendo-SNES-Game-Cartridge-Good-Working-/121677641335?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item1c548d7677

Proof it's fake:

Besides the fact that it's coming from China, notice it has an R symbol next to the nintendo seal, and it says licensed by nintendo.

Comments

  • Sigh. Reported.
  • It's incredibly sad people in china do this because it totally ruins the point of collecting the actual cartridge, if it said reproduction on it that would be ok but it doesn't...

Also someone is selling the same bootleg out of china here, for much cheaper.. wish I could report this as well:

    His original post explains this.

There is an "R" beside the seal and at the top it says "licensed by". Neither of those two things should be there.

    It probably smells funny too

Anybody ever notice how strange stuff shipped from China smells?

Yeah, this type of thing is ridiculous.

Reported from my end as well.

I JUST made a thread about a seller selling a BUNCH of NES gems.... bunch of garbage. I'm reporting them right now.

  • its starting to be a crying shame =0/
  • Wow, and ebay let it slide...
  • It won't be long before we start seeing these fake carts all over the place.

We'll be seeing posts "OMGOMG Just got Earthbound!!!!11" and then we'll point out the (R). And then they'll open up the cart and we'll see some truly horrific Frankensteinian wiring.

China is breaking through the market with sheer quantity I guess. I'm so glad I got into collecting before this flood of fakes could really take root in the Midwest.
  • This hobby has gone to madness. Even though I hate it, let there be victims so the hype will die down.
  • maybe it's a label variation?
  • i saw this and i was kicking mysellf because it went for like 150 but then i saw it was from china.......... lol pass
  • Disgusting, honestly.
  • Definitely not. Check out the reply from the seller:

    "

i think if i make this list as a copy game, ebay will freeze my account.Because I selling imitation.

anyone win this game i will make them know it is a copy game."
  • If old games stay at these high prices, I imagine things like this will become more and more common.
  • Fucking Christ. I want so bad to purchase a copy of Earthbound, but I'm so god damn afraid of this shit. I shouldn't have to double check every game I acquire to make sure it's authentic. This should be a non-issue. Reported this ass-hat-nose-goblin for my own personal vendetta.

Even though the game sold, consequence can still come about, yes?

I also hope they have a pirated copy of Earthbound in their possession that activates the original lock-out protection. Either the fights you can't win, or getting to the last boss and the game freezing and deleting your save file. Either or would spark endless ire within me, really.
  • Always ask the seller for photos of the board.

I asked this guy for a photo of the board; he sent it and it was clearly fake. When I pointed this out to him, he said he'd take the auction down and that he was selling it on behalf of his friend.

I pointed out his previous attempt to sell it in another thread about scam auctions.
