Problem with my Atari 2600

Hi everyone. I bought this Atari 2600 a few days ago and unfortunately, I have a problem with it. As you may know, this model's (Sunnyvale Heavy Sixer) cable is inside the console, so I can't change it without opening the console. The metal part of the cable looks a bit rusted. Ask me if you want pictures. Also, I bought this:

Here is the video of what it does:

As you see, it does these little annoying sounds and these "flashes" on the screen.

I put the TV type switch on color.

Thanks.

  • Those are easy enough to swap out if you open it. Just plugs into the system board, no solder or anything.
  • Have you tried it on a different TV? My 2600 works fine on my HDTV, but my crt outputs horrible static.

I just tried it on my other TV. It works. Well, that's strange. Today, I tried all the things to get it to work: I cleaned it up, I tried different cables, etc... All that to discover that it works on my other TV. Oh well. I hate to open consoles, I always seem to do a bad movement and to break something. There's like a little crack on the top part because of me, but nothing really important.

    Thanks for the advice !
  • The signal from the Atari is weaker by design. That's why it requires a manual switcher and is probably why some tvs don't like it.

Atari's are great candidates for s-video and stereo mods by the way. Something to consider if you plan on using it a lot.
