Lagrange Point won't play

I have a copy of the Famicom game Lagrange Point and I can't get it to play on my NES toaster. I am using an NES-JOINT to convert from 60pin to 72pin and I get a solid red screen most of the time.. other times it starts white then turns red in a second. The cart seems clean and everything is being connected correctly.. I can't figure out what is wrong.

The ony thing wrong with the cart is that the VRC7 is not flush agains the board in some locations. The pins on one side are more flush but everything is soldered and connected well. I will post pictures as soon as possibe.

  • Not knowing if you ever played any other Famicom game, make sure that where it says NES-JOINT faces up with the game main label facing down.

I've tested aound 20 other Famicom games this month - everything is set up right

    EDIT - fixed it! Thanks
  • As long as the solder joints on the VRC7 chip are not cracked that should be ok.

As long as all the traces are ok I'd next look at the CHR-RAM chip on the right as being the next likely culprit.
  • The CHR chip isn't required to boot the game. Red screen or any solid screen with no apparent signs of function means the PRG chip is at fault.

Have you tried Lagrange Point on a real Famicom?
  • Well if that's the case; OP I have a spare Lagrange Point maskrom if you need it or could even put in an eprom with the translated rom on it if you'd like.
  • I already said I got the game working. Now I have a new problem: I just replaced the working mask ROM with a burned English translation (v1.01) and the NES won't boot when the cart is inserted. Instead I get a high pitch buzzing sound and the red LED won't light up. It worked ten minutes ago with the mask ROM but now that it has the EPROM this keeps occurring. I patched the Japanese rom with Lunar IPS and split it with famirom

    halp!
  • you don't need to split it really. Just need to remove the header.

You also don't need to bend up or rewire any legs. Should be a drop in replacement.

Keep in mind the eprom orientation is reversed from other NES games. Pin 1 goes bottom left.

Take it this ones mask rom was on the opposite side of others you tested and you tested this one out side of the plastic shell. Glad you to hear it works.

    halp!

A picture would be great, but what was the size of the file, eprom used, direction notch pointed, and any or no wiring done. More info the better.

  • I gotcha. It is working now. I dropped it in place, no rewiring. Thanks for all the help everyone. Thanks for letting me know about flipping the EPROM. Everything works perfectly!
