No Music on Lagrange Point (Solved)

Hi All,

I just bought a Lagrange Point cartridge with an English translation chip mod done on it and I'm looking for some help in regards to what I need to mod in order hear the FM VRC7 music. The game plays fine, and has regular NES sound effects, just no FM sounds/music. Here is what my setup consists of currently:

- US Front Loading NES.

- Famicom to NES converter from a Gyromite cartridge.

- Blinking Light Win pin connector (Not sure if this is making a difference, it's just what's in my NES).

I'm assuming that my issue probably lies in the fact that my converter is too old to have the necessary expanded audio channels routed to the right place, but I'm not 100% sure. Are there any Famicom to NES converters out there that would fix this without additional mods? I'm good at soldering, but always prefer to avoid it if possible...

Any input is appreciated!

Edit: This is now working, see my reply below.

  • you need to mod your nes to get the sound and the converter if it hasnt been modded already
  • Would a stereo modded (a/v modded) NES suffice? What additional mod is done to the converter?
  • I believe you need to do the 47k resistor mod to the NES.

As for the converter itself refer to this:

Thanks man! This doesn't look too hard. I'll post back if I get it working.
  • I did both mods last night and I now have music on Lagrange Point! To give a little more detail for anyone out there looking to get this game to work 100% on your NES (especially now that the English translation is making its way on carts now), here's what I had to do:

    1) First, as stated above, I had to do the 47K resistor mod to the NES motherboard. I followed this tutorial (though he recommends using a 24K resistor, I can confirm that the 47K resistor sounds great).

This basically "unlocks" the additional audio channels so they can be reached by the onboard chips that some game manufacturers put on their boards.

    2) Second, I had to add a jumper wire to the Famicom to NES adapter so that the expanded audio channel could actually flow from the Famicom cartridge to the NES. The NES-JOINT converter (found in a Gyromite cart) has the pins for the expanded audio, but they are not connected because there were no US games that use expanded audio. Using the images in the thread that SinNombre posted as a reference, I can confirm that this works for Lagrange point. It's a tad annoying since you have to wrap the jumper around the converter, but with the right wire length, it will still fit in your NES without getting snagged on anything.

Good luck to anyone else looking to get this working!
