Famicom cart and famicom to NES adapter

So i bought recently 3 famicom cart witch is Xevious, Super Xevious and twinbee3.

I also have a hogan's alley with a converter in it

I know famicom carts are all colorful and are all shaped differently but i'm having a little issue.

My twinbee3 cart fit in the adapter and i can play it in my top loader but my xeviouss carts doesn't fit in it

I've noticed that my twinbee3 cart has a brown circuit board and if i shake it i can hear the circuit board being "loose" in the pastic case, while my xevious carts are made of more robust platic and has a white circuit board

Also anyone could give me advice to transform my hogan's alley cart into a robust famicom to NES adapter ?

  • I think most, if not all, famicom carts are held together pretty much with just plastic retention, no screws to speak of like in an nes cart, so some being loose seems normal. As for the converter, I know the ones in the nes games can be a bit wide for the famicom carts, so just getting a file and shaving down the side edges to fit into the famicom game easily will work just fine.

I've actually been meaning to work on making one of mine into a much more robust converter by cutting the cart down to size, but just haven't gotten around to it.
  • I would personally keep that Hogan's Alley cart the way it is and go for a legit Famicom. The AV Famicom is really nice. I used a Gyromite cart to make a converter years ago and since regretted it, as they are getting harder and harder to find these days, and are a really cool variant/conversation piece. I wouldn't mess with the Famicom carts either, esp. if you paid good money for them. Just my 2 cents
  • I put a fami adapter inside of an old Game genie cart. Took a little bit of modding with a dremel, but works great!

That's a great way to make one. I made one with a donor cart and sawed the cart in 2 pieces horizontally, right where the bottom of the label starts. Toss the top piece and secure the adapter in the bottom piece by just screwing the cart back together. Should be good to go.

  • I started out like this and using the adapter, but honestly if your going to play a lot of titles buy yourself an actual famicom you won't regret it.

Same here man. There's nothing like firing up a legit Famicom! Also, some Fami carts  (esp Jaleco ones) can be a bit fragile and the converters have been known crack them on the sides. This can happen when you try to disconnect the cart from the converter.

  • Thanks for reminding me these are bits of history they they have some kind of value.

A donor cart to saw trough is actually a good idea. Once i get my gamebit from china it has been a month i've ordered them. I know it take a long time.

I actually bought these carts because they were the cheaper deal i could find to get my childhood games back. I had them on a multicart (Xevious and Twinbee1) and they were the cheaper deal i could find has for Hogan's Alley i got it for 7$ shipped
