Ebay help.

I had a buyer send me a best offer that I accidentally accepted because I couldn't see the terms clearly on my phone that the buyer wanted free shipping on a larger item that would have ended up costing me money in the end. They got the invoice that still had shipping on it and asked to have it adjusted or canceled. I apologized and explained the situation and requested the order to be canceled. (The buyer had not paid at this point). The message says that the buyer needs to confirm this or something first. Then, I get an email saying the buyer paid the full price and shipping in the first place with a message saying they decided to get it anyways!

Since I already requested the order to be canceled and now they have paid after that, should I just ship it as normal or am I opening myself up to something bad later since requesting the order to be canceled and stuff? Thanks!

  • If you have his money you're fine. See if you can withdraw the cancel request though.

In researching this, it doesn't look like I can retract the cancel request. Should I have the buyer refuse the cancel request so that everything looks legit? It seems like this is the only option so that I don't have to issue a refund and ebay won't get mad with the whole fees not being taken care of...

  • You probably wont be able to cancel the request, but you can ask the buyer to reject it. I wouldn't ship until everything is worked out. That may just be me and my history with Ebay though.
  • I'd send it now. The buyer paid and that should cancel the cancel request. Don't keep the buyer hanging since their goodwill is keeping you from having a defect on your account.
  • Also write to them NOW and thank them for understanding the shipping cost. I'd also keep them in the loop regarding the cost by printing it on the label and refunding any extra.

My reasoning is that you messed up when you accepted it. They could have been a jerk and held things up but instead they just paid the extra. Give them the benefit of the doubt and send it. You are still as protected as you are with any transaction on ebay.

I have stayed in communication with the buyer updating her on the situation. She said she immediately accepted the cancel request when I sent it to her and then about two hours later paid for the item. In looking at the cancel details, it now says ebay is waiting for the buyer to confirm they got a refund and they have ten days to respond.

So, if I do go ahead and ship or even issue a partial refund for the inconvenience and such, is there a chance that she could then report that she has not received a refund anyway and screw me over? Or would the ebay message trail protect me?

  • The message trail will protect you but sending the item will also. When she has it ebay will not expect the refund.

You kind of have to stop thinking about getting screwed however and think about taking care of the customer. The odds are very slim that she's trying anything.
