Question Regarding SNES repro cart

I recently purchased a secret of mana 2 reproduction cart and upon playing it the game seems fine. The introduction and character select run as expected, but shortly after character select and the world-map "cutscene" the game idles on a black screen. It never proceeds to the next point. The seller claims it was damaged in the mail but I'm having trouble believing that considering it runs. I was thinking it's a mode 7 issue of some sorts but my expertise in the field is subpar. I was refunded for my purchase but was curious if there was something I could do to make this work since I imagine most of the work to make this thing is already completed. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  • Could be a loose jumper inside. Have you opened it and looked around?
  • I have not. It was going to be my next move but I lack the appropriate tools in my apartment. The feel of the cart doesn't rattle or any awkward sounds but the whole chip shifts around leisurely.
  • If you live in the US you could send it to me, I might be able to fix it for you

There could be a few different things wrong with it such as:

    The wrong ROM was programmed

Bad solder joint broke during shipping

The SRAM went bad, I saw a Mario All-Start+SMW that did some odd things when the SRAM went bad

A broken trace on the board

It could also be your SNES do you have any other games that use mode 7 to try?
  • One of my first thoughts was it could be my snes. I do have one of the earlier models. It's a nicely ugly two-tone one. I had planned on bringing it over to a friends house and trying it on her retro-duo, but haven't gotten around to it. I doubt it's a bad rom dump simply because this guy is known for consistent quality; nothing but positive feedback. He was kind enough to refund the purchase. Obviously I would prefer the game in 100% working condition. I just don't think it could be an issue so trivial.
  • Sounds like possibly a failed SRAM.
