What to do with crappy sports carts?

And I'm talking the real junk ones where no one will pay for them. I end up with them somehow or another and I started wondering what should I do with them.

I know I can harvest the backs off of some if I need to, but I haven't really needed to yet. I also keep the NES, SNES, N64 ones since I'm going for a full set...and I rarely get doubles of the crappy sports games there...but I do get them sometimes...but I have a lot for the Genesis.

So...what do you guys do with them?

I was thinking if nothing else I could take them apart, strip the labels and practice painting them. Would be great if I got good at it but on the other hand I don't know how to do stuff like homebrew or hacks so...I suppose I could sell the shells? IF I was good at it haha.

  • use them to start a fire in the fire place.

    recycle them

reuse them to make home brews

stack them up and knock them over like domino's.

drill holes in them and use them as christmas ornaments.

make a coffee table of of them like patthenespunk said he would do in one of the avgn episodes.

    use them for target practice.

take a dump on them like avgn does periodically...

sell them with nes consoles as free games included.

cut off the pins and sell the gold scrap.

    use them as toilet paper.

glue them together and make a container out of them to hold things.

i cant think of anything else XD
  • Could always use sell them in a lot for repro makers
  • Go to your local flea market and sell them for $1-2 each. If they're Nintendo games, they will be bought by all the geezers who watch storage wars and pawn stars that think Tender Tapes is Gowld!
  • Build a bridge out of them.
  • Play them
  • Give em to someone who likes that stuff. I spy one above me.
  • I am always amazed at the hate for sports carts. they obviously sold well because everyone has them and they are all over the place and I remember being younger and everyone had sports games to play against their friends. now we all poo-poo the sports games when did the love go away
  • Hate is strong word, I prefer to dislike sports games with extreme predigest.
  • I've always disliked sports games. Sell them in bulk online and get what you can out of them. It's not worth the effort to maximize your money otherwise.
  • For some odd reason, I only go out my way to collect sports that are for the NES just to complete my collection. Every other system, I really don't get much into them, so I don't collect them.

However, I do love me some "Off-the-wall" style sports. Games like Blitz, Mutant League Football/Hockey, etc. Anything with a cartoony/silly look that don't take themselves seriously and with not much in the way of rules. I don't mind collecting them.

I second this. Sell them all together with a title list and repro makers may buy it. Even the cheap donor carts for repros are edging up in price as repros seem to be a bigger thing recently.

I never had love for them to begin with. The only ones I would say I actually like would be the typical NES ones because I had them as a kid and played them because I had nothing else really...

But since I dislike Genesis to begin with...I don't want shitty sports games for it lol.
