Harvest Moon Board C2 Resistor issue

Hi Everyone,

I have been hunting down Harvest Moon for SNES forever! and finally found one that

was up to my standard.. conditionally =).. But as soon as I opened it up and checked the board I noticed

something was out of place. The C2 Resistor has been setup wrong, I don't know if it's from a factory mistake or from someone tampering with it... (solder joints look clean) Please take a look and give me your thoughts, Should I get it fixed? Will it be ok to play with it like that? What can go wrong if I use the game long term? What Kind and type of resistor is it? The game does work.

I marked it with a RED Dot in the pictures.

Thanks and all input is welcomed.

  • Definitely a factory error, send those pics to Hybrid for his error site.

It's either for the battery powering the SRAM chip, or it's for power integrity. You should get someone to solder it in properly.
  • Who or where's hybrid/site? Thanks.
  • anymore info out there?

Cool, Thanks I will checkup often.

Is there anyone else who has knowledge of what that C2 resistor is for and if it's important, needed, or type?

  • Nice factory error definitely get it fixed Don't want it frying something

    Here's my website

  • That is not a resistor, it is a 0.1uf capacitor. If you have soldering equipment I have some that I could send you.

That one is for the ROM chip it should play without it but the best practice would be to fix it.

They make capacitors that look like resistors? that seesm like a bad idea.

  • I think it was an old school thing, I have also seen SNES games that have the yellow caps like you would see on an arcade PCB.

They are ceramic caps so they are not directional.

interesting.. I tried to google for the exact capacitor and no luck, I would like to try to go OEM as much as possible.

Do you have a new exact same type cap? or should I just test to see if I can reuse that exact one that's on the board,

Or Salvage one from another game. hmmmm....

  • you don't need to replace it. the free end needs to go to the solder point directly to the left of the attached point.
  • Thanks Guys! =)

I appreciate all the info given, I decided to just use the original capacitor so I removed and reinstalled it.

kinda chipped the color coded label of the capacitor... oh well.

I also upgraded the battery with a holder and a fresh Energizer bunny in it.

I also added some new pictures after everything.

    Thanks Again =)
