Highest quality/tier video cable for all the following consoles?

As the title says I'm looking for the highest quality video cable without modding the console.  I may eventually go that route but I'm trying to keep things simple as it stands right now.

I have coax, 3 composite, 1 s-video and 1 component input on my CRT.

I am using composite cabling for all the following with the exception of the top loader which if coax.  What are the best cable options, without modding the original console hardware, for me to get?

NES

NES top loader

SNES

N64

Gamecube (i'm aware of the extremely expensive 1st party component cables, looking for other more affordable options.  Oh and no, I don't have a Wii so I can't play gamecube games on it through my component cable'd wii console).

Saturn

PSP (3000 model)

Thanks in advance!

    Without modding, getting the expensive Gamecube component cable, or getting a Wii, your best bet is probably the Monster S-Video cable, which work for all three of these. There are cheaper no-name brand ones, but they can be kinda hit or miss. If you get a cheaper brand, make sure to get one that has ONLY the S-Video for video out - some have composite as well, and these, by virtue of the way they're designed, produce inferior picture (including the dreaded checkerboard effect).

    Honestly though, you do get MUCH, much better video out of Gamecube games through component - either Gamecube or Wii. The difference is very noticeable, especially on HDTVs. Metroid Prime goes from looking like a blurry N64 game (albeit with more polygons) to a crisp, clear, modern-looking game. If you can at some point spring for one of those options, I'd highly recommend it.

  • NES = conposite with a split mono audio cable

    nes top loader = coax (unless you have the rare multi out model) then composite or possibly s video?

    snes = S video (and on early models i think support scart RBG cables with out mods but im not sure)

    n64 = S video

    gamecube = s video (but capable of component. might as well use a wii)

    saturn = s video

    psp 3000 = component or composite
  • Model 1 SNES - RGB via SCART

    Saturn - RGB via SCART

    Pretty sure the rest Nes Freak stated is correct.
  • For more info about getting RGB from the SNES/Saturn, take a look at http://retrorgb.com

    I'll just say for the svideo cables, the ones that GameStop sells are fine. They have a composite video lead as well, but the s-video is proper s-video. They're also multi console cables which can do Xbox, Playstation, and Xbox 360, and they're only $15 usually.

    And it'll work with snes through GameCube, and will give you a quality bump for sure. At the point of component cables for GameCube goes, you're going to be able to buy a wii and component cables for it several times over before coming close to the price of the GameCube component cables.

    And with these cables you didn't experience checkerboarding?  I know my local gameshop sells these:

    And I'm uncertain if these will do the checkerboarding or not and if these ones will specifically be compatible with my SNES and N64 too.  I have a composite video cable for my gamecube that works on my n64 but not on my snes so I just wanted to make sure.  I'd like the monster ones but at $60+ that's getting up there ...

    no as long as its direct. and not using a cheap conjuntion box.  s video will look good espeshally if you turn your sharpness all the way up on your tv.  i prefer monster cables but what ever fits your budget will work
  • I can also vouch that the Gamestop squid s-video/composite cable doesn't produce checker-boarding.

    The ones I bought were these: http://m.ebay.com/itm/Gamestop-HD-Multi-Platform-Component-Audio-Video-Cable-Universal-6ft-/191561324884?nav=SEARCH

    I haven't had any checkerboarding on anything I've used them on.
