Nes Solid Yellow Screen [Fixed]

So i opened it up, cleaned the pin/insides and cut the 4th pin on the Nes lockout chip. Well this solved the blinking problem but now all i get is a solid yellow screen and sometimes a solid white screen. Did i mess something up or do i need a new 72 pin? It shows the yellow screen no matter if there's a game in there or not and i also cleaned my Nes games before trying them and have tired several different games with no luck. I also tried rebending the pins upwards back to their original positions.

Edit: Had to install a new 72 pin and it corrected the issue.

  • Bump! Do i need to buy another pin or does someone know a simple solution?
  • Start with a new 72. Double check that you clipped the right thing on the lockout.

Ive never had to mess with the lockout while refurbing any of the toasters I've had in my hands. Usually a new 72 took care of it.

Alrighty I shall try installing a new pin and as far as the lockout chip I doubled checked which one I clipped (which was the 4th pin from the left).
  • Definitely sounds like a contact issue, it's incredibly common on toasters due to the shitty design. Take a look at the contacts in the connector and see if any are bent/missing. You can boil it to clean any heavy dirt deposits, or try wrapping some fine grit sandpaper around an old credit card (or similar) and insert/remove it several times to remove any corrosion. Take the cart tray/connector off the mainboard and check the metal contacts that it slots on to the actual PCB too - I've seen corrosion from liquid ingress on these before.

New 72 pin adapters are good, but a lot suffer from a "death-grip" level of tightness which makes getting the carts out a pain, and makes me worry about damaging the games' pins. Maybe that blinking light win thing is the answer.

Got my new 72 Pin in yesterday and installed it right away and every game booted up right away with no issues. Thanks

  • Good to hear you got it working.

Make sure all your games are clean now to stop the new connector from getting gunked up too
