Just got an Atari Lynx and I have a few questions
I know jack all about this system other then what I can gather from just looking at the big honking thing. I bought this one from a guy who said it stopped working...he wasn't sure if it was because the batteries corroded inside or not, but he said before they corroded, it was working fine.
So my questions:
- I saw that there's a place to plug in a power cord...would that make it work if all was wrong was corroded contacts?
- Anyone have a power cord or whatever plugs into it via the power slot for sale and cheap?
- How would I go about cleaning the contacts? From what I see, they're deep in the machine...not where I can access easily. And what would I use to clean them?
- Might something else be wrong with it? Are they prone to problems and failing a lot?
- And how/where the bloody hell do you stick the games in? I found a flap with pins down in it but I can't get the games to fit?
And anything else you think I might need to know as a new Lynx owner.

3: Philips screwdriver, and clean the contacts first by rubbing them with a plastic eraser (the Staedtler ones work perfectly). Then proceed with a layer of WD-40 or Brasso, and rub well with q-tips. Finish off with some Isopropyl Alcohol (Preferrably 90 % or higher) and continue rubbing with q-tips until there is no dirty residue sticking to the cotton.
P.S. only use WD-40/Brasso if the contacts are really dirty. Otherwise, just stick with Isopropyl Alc. ^^
4: I don't know what might be specifically wrong with yours going off of your description and without any pics,, but yes, they are somewhat wonky machines prone to quite a bit of failure. If treated with care they should be able to last for ages though, just like any Game Boy.
5: The game goes in just like any other regular GameBoy or DS game would, on the top of the system. The only difference is that unlike any other normal system, here the label of the cart will face inwards instead of outwards. Doesn't make much sense, but yeah lol.
And on a completely different note, I noted in your sig that you have Asperger's. I do too, yay.

1: Shouldn't be a problem. AC overrides battery-driven power in the Lynx, so it should work.

Mine is I guess the 1st model...so the slot isn't at the top it's at the side where you hold it...but I flipped the game around like you said and it fit...after a shove. Kinda weird.
I'll have to take it apart later today and see if it's pretty rough in there...I think I clean it as best I can and try the battery way before buying a plug. So off handedly I don't have an eraser like that...I might have a pencil with an eraser on it around here somewhere but would that work?
Technically the doctors call it "high functioning autism" but from every aspie and autistic person I've talked to has said that it's the same as Asperger's...plus when I was a kid I had speech problems so...that sort of puts me apart from "normal" Autism. Or so I've been led to belive.
Yeah it's hard to define and draw a line between differences on the spectrum, but it seems like our stories are quite similar in regards to speech problems.
Good luck on getting the system up and running (:

A pencil eraser might be a bit small as you need a bit of force, but give it a whirl and see.

I managed to get it going by just cleaning the spring with some rubbing alcohol...works like a charm, sound and screen are clear and crisp. It amazes me that the guy didn't take it apart and clean it...it was a really easy thing to do.

Nice ^^ Did you have any games to test it out?
