Mario 3 Label Variant

I saw a Facebook post from a collectors group talking about a recently discovered label variant for Mario 3 NES. Most people uncluding myself have never noticed before but the word "bros" on the cartridge label is centered. The variant the post was talking about had "bros" in a left side justification. I have seen multiple for the same prices on ebay and other sites. My questions: Is this actually new or a known thing?

Does it add to the value or rarity at all? (Mario 3 is generally a common game)

I'm sorry I don't have any pics to upload. Some quick googling of Mario 3 labels will show you guys the 2 different variants now that you know what to look for.

Thanks for any info on this

  • It's a known one, well I knew of it and I have had a few other collectors mention it locally.
  • The left "Bros" label is the first version (I think about a million or so distributed), has a few spelling and grammar errors in the game as well.

The majority have the centered "Bros". Used to be able to fetch an extra $5 or so premium on the first version, not sure about now as I haven't checked lately.

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks for the info! Gonna find whichever I'm missing I guess. Never knew about that.

  • A while back I looked at all of the SMB3s on ebay and there were 9 carts with left alignment and 103 with right. The game is so common that even an ~8% variant is really not rare at all.
