So I'm now making it to the very last section of Volkmire's Inferno. The last section is unforgiving. It's the only thing so far that's truly tested my nerves, lol. The funny thing is, I know there's a pattern (I can see it, and Bootsy even tells you what it is), but it goes by so fast that I always just smash into the electric. Trial and error city, to say the least.
I made three attempts yesterday: once in the morning like usual, once after lunch, and once after dinner (and a few drinks ). Ironically, despite dying in really avoidable ways on the first three levels on my third run, I made it through Snake Pit effortlessly
How's everyone else doing?
Dude......... every run I have been doing so far has been miserable I don't know what it is wrong I have been making it to the surf level no deaths but keep losing lives on the mine section. Snake pit is a breeze now but keep having these early mess ups that make me turn it off, my runs are either hit or miss up to the lava stage.
I am at that point where I feel I need to take a little break and come back to it sadly.
That's what happened to me. As a result I stopped playing and haven't returned to it in awhile now. Made it all the way to Clinger Winger three times and to be honest I have never used a warp in Battletoads. I've tried getting back to Clinger Winger again but my hands were sore and I kept screwing up (usually in Volkmire's or during the Rat Race). I think I kind of have an idea where the warps are, (kind of sparkly spots in the high speed stages?), but I've never used them. Probably should figure that out to save my sanity.
Anyway if Bootsy posts a video that covers Clinger Winger, I think that's when I'll give it another try.
I feel your pain man but anybody who even makes it as far as you have in Battletoads should feel like a champ! Me and Jason are getting there but I think the both of us will be stuck at Volkmire's for a bit (me especially).

I use warps sparingly, depending on how I'm feeling. Most of the time I play straight through though, as I like to get used to playing all of the sections.
I'm not looking forward to Clinger Winger.
I'm also waiting for part 3 with Bootsy. I'm hoping that's either coming out with tomorrow's Mike & James Monday, or at some point this week. Go Bootsy! He's already gotten me through some tough parts in this game. By far my favorite thing on YouTube at the moment.
I am thinking about using Booty's video for a reference point doing the vehicle section my mind is just allover the place from dodging the fireballs and rockets I have a hard time during the electric gates last section.
The electric gates toward the end is a pattern that I know is right there, but I just can't get it down yet. It's one of those things where I'll die a million times, and then nail one morning on my first run.

Until then, practice, practice, practice...
In time it will become elementary as you said you just need to keep trying.

I just purchsed a fresh copy of FF1 on the NES from a member here, so that will provide a much needed break. I can see coming back fresh and just plowing through. Even Bootsy said it's his least favorite part of the game, so it truly is a hump.
I just played for the first time in a quite a while...I have gotten rusty. I died a bunch on surf city, having totally forgotten the log pattern. I died a bunch of times on the snake pit. I at least made it to Volkmire's but I gotten taken out by the missiles. Ah well, not a terrible run.
^I always count it as a good run if I can make it to whatever level I'm currently stuck at without getting a game over.
So, if I can make it through the Snake Pit before losing my last life, it's a good run
Final Fantasy should be arriving this afternoon. I'm going to give Battletoads a couple more good runs, then it's break time for a day or two. Much needed!
I also have to play with the added challenge of young children who like to watch me play, but also think it would be a good idea to try and sit in my lap/climb on me/lay across my arms whilst I'm in the middle of a tricky section.

Oh trust me, I know. I get pissed when my girlfriend makes sudden movements in the same room I'm playing in, lol.

Damn those missiles! They foiled me again! I also lost far too many lives on the surf city mines..
aren't they just a real pisser? The mines either give me absolutely no issues or they ruin my run..... damn random crap
The game kept doing bullshit like putting a mine directly in front of a ramp. Another time, they were clustered in such a way that they literally formed a chain across the entire river! >:-8
I am with you dude, I found a local lot of about 30 boxed Genesis games that included Gunstar Heroes, Hyperstone Heist being the biggest ones so I got plenty games to play for a bit while I take my Battleturds break.

I only paid $100 CAD for it all (about $75 USD).
thats a hell of bargain!
It was and I was really pumped... it is hard to find local deals these days but man I stole this one......

That's what you've got to do to keep the mental peace, lol. I haven't played Battletoads in two days; I've just been grinding in FF (which oddly enough, is rather relieving). A year or two ago I'd despise having to grind in FF. Now, it feels like a cakewalk compared to most of Battletoads, lol.

I tried again the other day but still no progress other than getting more fluent at the levels I have already beaten.
The most difficult things about RPGs are just committing to it and willing to invest the time.
I always love grinding in an RPG, the anticipation of exploring the next area as a reward.
Decided to play through that fucking battletoads game after reading all of your great progression, I can get to the giant rat on level five before my game over so with any luck I'll know what you're all talking about in a few hours/days.

This......
I got this mental image of you guys playing Battletoads, screaming and yelling at the TV, while your loved ones are bound and gagged behind you.
Ya I just set her up with a feeding tube and I am good to go hahahaha.
Maybe pump some beer into her veins to ease the stress.

"OMG STFU, I'M AT TURBO TUNNEL. WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT TALKING DURING TURBO TUNNEL?! WHAT DID I SAY?!?!"
Officially taking a break from this game for a bit, and relaxing with Final Fantasy. I'm at the last section of Volkmire's.

Oh ya without a doubt.
Grinding in RPGs is therapeutic.
Depends on how good the battle music is and how many different actions I need to perform to beat the mob.
If I am able to button spam and am near a healing spot it is very very tolerable.
