Need NA detectives to verify Little Samson cart + box

Hey guys, need to call in the detectives here for expert opinions on these pics.  Not the best, but I will update with more as they come; if they come.

Posting is as follows:

"Crown Jewel of my collection. What's it worth? Anyone interested in purchasing?"

At this point and based on some banter back and forth I'm clearly thinking this is a fake.  He claims he is from just outside town, he is asking what the "crown jewel" of his collection is worth, is reluctant to take pics of the board, can't find his security bit, etc. etc.  So I end of getting messaged 2 more pics after asking for pictures of the inside flaps on the box.

Next 2 pics:

The picture with the flaps seems to look ok to me.  I was looking for telltale signs of repro box.  I am now starting to think that maybe he is just an uneducated collector?  In my area there are loads of new collectors and lots of folks with oilfield money that are now maybe looking to sell off from their new fad with the price of oil in the shitter?  However he did mention that he has had this for "years"...

I told him I won't be making any offer until I see the board and test it out.  I need to see everything first hand.

Quick thoughts on the little info I currently have?

Comments

  • How much is he asking? That is usually a dead giveaway if it's legit or a sham.

He is background fielding offers from a numer of people.  Some of I've been in touch with.

I'm mostly just looking for any visual evidence based on these pics, or if someone has seen them from somewhere before.

  • "crown jewel" but he doesn't know what its worth? Thats a huge red flag.

If it was legit and he really wanted to sell it he would be fine opening it up. Or meet in person and open it up yourself.

    Exactly.  95% sure it's a sham.
  • Most local craigslist ads for this game are total scams. It isn't even worth checking into those. A legit samson is either totally undiscovered or in the hand of a collector who knows it's value. not put onto craigslist at a bargain.
  • My thoughts exactly. Only thing is this is on a Facebook group. Checked the guys profile and it seems legit, lots of friends and posts, doesn't look like the profile was made yesterday to post a scam or fake.

I'll see where this goes and update later.
  • Box looks real to me.

I'd be worried about the cart, though.
  • Looks legit, may be a time waster, i would make an effort to make a deal and show up with a gamebit. Box looks legit.

check the label for signs of cutting or something off with color/sheen, i know you have handled enough nes carts to tell a fake label by now.

Its hard to be sure with high end stuff, definitely good to post this on NA and see what everyone has to say.

i'd ignore the story as what matters most is the game being real or not.
  • could always try asking for a very specific picture. He's clearly got his camera, so he can't say he cant do it based on not being able to find it. I'd ask if he could get a closeup of the label's front and top, or any other picture you care to have him take. If you really want to push the issue, ask him to take a picture of it on a piece of paper with his name and the date written on it.
  • Why do people with "rare" games take the worst pics and suddenly are unaware that said game is "rare" and pricey?

Half these chucklefucks on Craigslist are probably trolls.
  • If he doesn't want to open it, then this is probably not legit. Until, he shows you the board, I would consider it a fake, regardless of what the box and cart look like.
  • i dont even bother with craigs list for gaming purposes.
  • Yeah he is now posting whishy washy comments about how he might not want to sell etc etc. still haven't seen any further pics. Doesn't seem motivated to sell. Nothing worse than trying to make an offer on a high end item when someone is on the fence about selling. He is likely looking for outrageous offers.

I hate it when the wrong people have the right items...
  • Some close ups and ones with paper and his name should help verify he has a legit looking box I wouldn't buy until it's open and the board is verified. Hope it works out. From what I remember of my box/cart it looks good.
  • To be fair it is really rare and asking for a lot of money always comes with titles like these.

Agreed, but I have a feeling he thinks this pushing the 2k+ range missing the manual.
  • I am the guy that has this for sale. I am not a scammer. The cart and box are real. I have a NOE manual for it and it is also real, but it doesn't match the cart and box, which are US.  I also do not expect to get $2,000 for the cart and box.  I have no problem sending anyone pics of the board, now that i have found my security bit to do so.  If anyone is seriously interested, and not just kicking tires, send me a message and we will go from there.
