gameboy/gameboy color save dump

I'm wanting to back up my save-files from my gameboy/gameboy color games so when the day comes when the battery dies.  I can replace and just readd my save files.  Is there anything out now that I can get that lets me dump my saves to my computer using the cartridge and a usb device?  I googled it and all I could really find was using a serial port or something and having to buy 2 different devices.  I'm looking for an all in one device.

  • Not sure if this is what you had in mind, but the Retron 5 backs up gamesaves straight to your SDHC card and can even write the saves back to your cart or can be copied to your computer for archiving.
  • I wouldn't mind a retron 5 but still a little pricey for me
  • It doesn't save to your computer, but a Mega Memory Card will back up your files:

  • yea that mega memory card with another accessory could do it but they both are pretty pricey and I'd much would like something USB
  • i was about to say that ^ yeah if you have an ever drive and transferpak for n64 you can back up any cart using the program in the link above
  • I don't own a 64 so this is a no go for me

its problably the cheapest way.  i guess you could ask someone trust worthy with an everdrive on here to do it.  id do it. but i dont have one.
  • The owner of Micro-64 is as trustworthy as they come, he has an N64 + Everdrive + Transfer Pak, but he's located in Canada.

From a convenience, functionality and reliability standpoint, the N64 combo is the best option. The other nice advantage is you have the whole N64 library at your fingertips. There's also an NES emulator that runs pretty well.
  • Yea I don't own a 64 and buying all that IMO is just paying way to much. I think I'm just going to get a retron 5 as there is a local game store that sells them. Just have a question for ppl who have a retron. When playing gameboy games can you change colors like on the super gameboy and have borders as well? Cause if its just black and white I may have to rethink it and just buy the gb 64 usb
