  • shingen th eruler, fuck me
  • Don't worry, happens to all of us!
  • It's so weird seeing instructions on the front label
  • You know a game is fun when it has the periodic table for cover art.

I always thought that too. Would come in handy if you were playing on a Top-Loader now that I think about it...
  • Is Hot B a weird nickname for Koei in their early days? I always presumed this game was from Koei.
  • I used to think Hot B was an "Adult" game company back in the day.

Much like The Black Bass on NES, Shingen the Ruler was developed by 'Another' and published by Hot-B -  It's definitely in the Koei strat vein though. Hot-B did develop games too, however. Their finest moment is for the Fami and PAL shmup, Over Horizon IMO. Beautiful game there.

  • Hot-B is its own developer, no relation to Koei.

That is definitely the most bizarre NES label ever though.
  • Palamedes is the same way.

  • Yeah, I wonder what they were trying to go for with those labels. You'd think it'd maybe work as a quick reference while you're playing the game, but in 1990 the Top Loader wasn't out yet, haha. Neat nonetheless.
  • I'd imagine it's just to prevent you from losing the instructions.
  • Reminds me of the first Atari carts.

    "Use with Joystick controller"

    "Game 1-4 generic shooter"

"Game 5-8 generic shooter two player"

"Game 9-11 generic shooter with slightly altered graphics"

"Game 12-15 we modified the score on this one, so different game"

"Game 16-231 we figure you're not going to flip the select switch this many times, so this is just two squares circling each other"
  • I suspect the label instructions are so the box/manual cover could be used for reference, and as usual the label gets the same art.
