no prob!  btw a fake or third party controller usally feels very light a cheap to the touch.  the plastic is usally low grade and the colors incorect.  from your pictures i didnt see that.
  • It's fake according to online sources. That packaging isn't correct. The color looks good for a fake though.

Another test is to power it on and look at the top. The real ones usually don't have any color bleed through above the player indicator (except the red for some reason) where the fakes are made of thinner plastic and will shine through a lot.

Fakes are usually decent and many people didn't know they had one until Sony started disabling them. I'm not sure how well they work now.
  • Sorry bud, it's fake. Hope you didn't pay much for it. That color doesn't exist in the OEM line, there's a info missing on the back sticker, and the mA is different but matches most KO third party ones at 500 my OEMs are 200

Ahh, didn't see the link up there.
  • hmm.. After further research yeah its fake. sorry i didn't have a ps3 controller to compare so just looking at it without knowing, it looks legit. So return it, and call it a day.
  • Did you power it up and see if the LED shines through? I know that was the final test. Then again others have said it's fake for stronger reasons. It will probably work ok, I just hate buying fakes because pirates deserve to lose money. Owning a fake isn't a concern to me though as they work fine. It's sort of a catch - 22 for me.

Now that I think of it, I wonder if my red one is fake since the LED shines through so much? I got it off of Amazon and they have some serious problems with their marketplace right now.
  • If it's any consolation thanks to this posting and my boredom, I did discover my roommate has a fake one, looked legit until closer inspection. It does work on his super slim, but since he's had it and a couple KO aftermarkets all bought used, he's been having a lot of trouble them holding a charge long and were talking around 30mins from a full charge to dead we just assumed the battery was just going bad which isn't the case apparently just aftermarket crap doing what does best, being crap. Plus side is if you like that color you can prob do a case swap with a busted shell OEM one.
  • BTW, the 500mA is correct for new DS3 models. They upped it when the Slim model came out. I was nervous there for a while because mine is also 500mA.

I didn't know the battery life would be less with the fakes. I wonder if that's all of them or just a few since quality control is likely poor.
  • ^ Well that bit of info on the mA is good to know. The one I deemed fake did come with the console but was bought from a pawnshop so wasn't a guarantee the owner didn't just toss a random controller in.

As for my battery comments (disregarding the possible fake that I'm again questioning) were towards the actual blatant cheap Chinese KOs I have here on hand horrible battery life, but seem to work as intended if you can stand staying plugged up which is what my boys do with them.
