Do you prefer hot or cold weather?

With the coldest air of the winter season currently making its presence known in southeast Louisiana (wind chill values may climb down into the low teens tonight), I thought I'd make a topic that, although somewhat of a cliche, could make for some interesting discussions as to why people prefer a certain type of temperature.

Myself, I actually don't prefer either one, as both are relatively annoying when too extreme. I prefer for temperatures to be around 75-80 with little or no humidity, and some slight wind.

How about you guys?

  • cold weather all the way, if I get too cold, I can grab a blanket or a hoodie and i'm good

    I can't stand being warm
  • I prefer the heat. Worst case scenario, I drink enough to stay hydrated and strip down to the bare minimum of clothing.

Heat doesn't really prevent me from enjoying the outdoors or getting work done.

Cold weather below a certain temperature is a major demotivating force, for me. Like tonight, I planned to work on my house...but it's so damn cold...I can't really will myself to do anything.
  • i prefer heat, you can always get cool, but you cant always get warm...
  • It's like -20oC here today, so I would say that I would really prefer hot weather.
  • i dont mind a little chill in the air but i think i like to be warm rather then cold

im outside working on my car alot and for me its impossible to work if the temp is to one extream to the other
  • As much as I "complain" about the cold weather... I actually prefer extreme cold to extreme heat. I HATE walking around when its so humid and like 100+ degrees out.
  • ^^^ Also with few exceptions I think you're much more likely to die from the cold.

Our bodies are built for arid climates like the Mediterranean where it never really hits either extreme.

  • I would much rather be too hot than too cold.....

I guess that would apply if you are in doors. but if your outside. your screwed.  you can always put on more clothes but once your nekid your done.   Being on the bigger side i like my cool to cold weather
  • Nah, if you're outdoors you actually stay cooler if you wear linen clothes that cover your whole body...so that the sun is blocked but you still get the benefit of breeze. There is a reason people dress the way they do in the Middle East.

  • its about 40 degrees C here right now (104F)and I'm sat in my jocks.....actually bugger the internet, I'm getting in my pool

    Hot weather FTW!
  • I like bitter cold.

    Me too...

  • I prefer the cold, too. I'm not exactly the most fit person in the world so I usually run a little warm anyways, it's a lot easier for me to throw on an extra shirt or two to get warm compared to trying to cool down.
  • Hot for me, i'll be lucky if I ever move out of Florida. image Maybe the Carolina's, I like it there.
  • Cold for me, I find it far easier to warm up than to try and cool down. And as Chad said, this summer's been pretty warm over the last few days
  • I prefer cold b/c you can always put more clothes on. Hot weather you can't always take your clothes off.

Exactly... You can always add more clothing, but at a certain point you don't have anything else left to remove in the heat..
  • I'd much rather be in crazy hot weather than blistering cold. I used to work at a Seafood house as a cook in the outside kitchen during the summer. No A/C out there, and when it was 95 or so outside, it felt like 115-120+ in the kitchen due to all the big ovens that were constantly opened. Once you can deal with that, a mere 100 in direct sunlight doesn't even phase you...
  • ^^^ Same here. I grew up in GA, so I can handle the heat and humidity pretty well. But having backpacked out in the desert, it IS much easier to handle the heat when the humidity is lower.

Then again, my wife spent some time in Kuwait, and it was about 120 degrees with full humidity on some days. That might be a little more than I could handle...but I'd still prefer it to -20F.

Sure you can, what's stopping you? image
  • Well as long as your home, you can take everything off, but say your at a baseball game or somewhere to were your in public. Living in Louisiana the summers are much worse than the winters. It get's so humid in the summer you just start to sweat when you walk outside somedays.
  • Heh should have made it a poll :-P I can't stand cold weather. 23 years in Colorado and I'm still not used to it. Plus since smoking indoors is banned at bars here, there's no point in me going to them in the winter :-(
