In need of advice!

Went to this game store in topeka kansas 40 mins away looking for CIB n64 games and the guy said he had TUNS in the back. He would not let me go look at them he said i had to make a list of what i wanted. I could not make a list off the top of my head and the few titles i listed off they couldent find or did not have. My delima is that i dont want to bother them by getting out too many games because when the guy asked what i was looking for i said that i am looking for any game i can get my hans on... Basically i would like suggestions on games i should pick up CIB before others in terms of how hard they are to find. Heres a list of games i have but i have a few more no on here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jT8A1iCJcdWXSF-hpjkHWYHOIjjwYiURxuFp5iKZ1bo

  • There is not a single question in that great big wall of text.
  • Print off a list of all titles in the nes library. Done.
  • lol that's quite a 'delima'. seriously though, I can't make it through your wall of text.
  • Why wouldnt the guy just take you into the back so you can browse

No idea... It was not secret or anything like i would of probably bought a good 10+ games if they had let me go back there. Plus they had the backdoor wide open and if i tried i probably could of seen all the games inside the backroom from the cashregister but you know...

People would discover the gold bars he has...

I have asked stores before to see the items in the back for whatever reason and they have denied access before. It's not a big deal... just have a list of games you would like ready for him ahead of time or call him over the phone? If he claims to not have any games you are requesting, then just ask for other one's you would like. I do not mind when stores restrict customers from certain areas or when they keep a close eye to make sure customers don't take anything. It is after all their business and investment and people should respect that.

Now if he doesn't ever have anything you want, then I guess its time to find a better store.

  • Store owner sounds full of $h!t.
  • If he says he has a lot but doesn't want to let you into the area to see, he shouldn't bothered by bringing out 50 games for you to look at. It's a game store, not an inner-city gas station, yes?

From what i saw there was a party going on. They seem to have a soundproof room for kids to play basically minecraft and scream all they want. they had some arcades too and some kid was alawys asking someone to switch games. Not sure if he would of had the time to take out all the games. he kind of said he cant just bring them all out for me to look witch just made me wonder why i couldent go in the back especially with 4+ people behind the counter. God do a strip search on me if that what it takes to see some video games.

  • Haha, that makes some sense. A lot going on. I get if no stranger is allowed in back, but I also agree it's a bit silly if you're there to throw down the bucks and the place is heavily staffed. I question why the stock isn't on display; maybe N64 doesn't move much in KS. Anyway. One game I haven't seen mentioned ITT but recommend is Body Harvest. Kind of like Bloodrayne and it's usually cheap, good bang for your buck.
  • Tell the guy your with GameChasers.
  • This thread made me laugh, title especially. I figured it was some troll, haha... "Too many games"???

Also, wouldn't it have taken less time to think of a list of games/look games up and give it to him, rather than made a thread with a giant wall of text describing the whole entire story?

If any store owner said that to me, I'd say "I'll take them all".

Anyways... I would just be like "It'd be easier for me to pick out more games based on your selection, could you bring the box out?" If he's not budging on bringing what he has out, give him a list.
  • This kind of reminds me of a store I visited once. They had the NES and SNES games in a tub behind a counter. They did not know what games they did have in the tubs when I requested for various titles. They offered to bring the tubs out one at a time on top of the glass counter top so I could see them as opposed to just walking behind the counter. With each request of seeing another tub came a scoff by the employee and a sarcastic remark when they realized I was going to ask for another, which just made me smile. About 12 tubs later and the glass counter sounding like it was about to break I walked away with Donkey Kong Classics for I believe it was $10 with the manual in near mint condition. All of the games were in decent shape, but nothing I really wanted to spend on. It was a nice store and all, but I didn't get offended by their remarks. It just business, if a customer wants to look at items for sale in a restricted area, they should bring it out at least or work with you. If the store keeps making it difficult, just play the game or find a better source. I have yet to find a store refusing to sift through their products for me if its not out on the floor in order to make a sale. Shoot, even if stores look for me and manage to find nothing, I always say thanks and try to pick something up for their troubles.
  • I can understand not letting people in the back room for many reasons. That said, you can't sell what people don't know you have. This guy at least needs a list of what he has so people can actually browse.

He said there is no room to display them witch is BS because they had like 8 huge shelves behind the counter with crappy wii games and all the extra games they already have out on the show floor. Literally they had a shelf with like 200 n64 carts but it was like 9 games that they had 20 copys of. There would be plenty of room to have all the boxed games on display and i understand they could get damaged being behind the counter but they had box protecters on every boxed game in the store.

Thats what i wish he had done but idk if they were in tubs. I would be happy to keep bringing out tubs of boxed NES games if i worked there cuz i would love to chat with people who are interested in that kind of stuff.

    Agreed 100%.

Let the guy keep his precious games if he's going to play this 'i'm too busy to actually try and sell my stuff' gatekeeper crap with you.

Really felt like a museum when i went in again today to hand him a list. He said he would have to see if he had them in storage and he would call me. IDK why you would put things such as CIB games in storage when there is a market for them. I understand if you have multiple copys CIB of a game then yes store the rest away but not even knowing what exactly you have thats not good. All in all i looked around again and saw they even had a Pikachu 3ds xl that was with the handhelds and it said Not for sale. Why would you put stuff out that your not selling. At least put like 500$ on it so no one bothers.
  • Now I would pursue this seller just to actually see if he has anything. If he ends up acting having anything and you like, buy it, if not then just pursue other locations and sellers while this one tries to figure out what he has and where it is at.
