Yeah as far as I can deduct from all the videos and articles this is exaclty how it works.
My best buddy and I have been hype for this game the whole time and its sureal that its so close! I just got my wisdom teeth out and he has to get his out tommorow so after that we are going to lock ourselves in the house and do the longest session we can! I'm thinking I will stay off the internet so I'm perfectly fresh for our playthrough.
Mine is being delayed thanks to some mess up with the delivery truck so will be having a late start which I've waited this long think I can handle a few more days. Plus gives me time to find some local kind soul that'll allow me to update my stuffs.
I am loving it so far! It's everything I wanted it to be and more! The trailers and early footage seriously don't do it justice. You truly have to experience it from the start for yourself. The planets are HUGE, the sense of exploration and immersion is unlike anything else on PS4. I even made friends with a few creatures who then showed me some special objects and followed me around like a dog. Quite possibly my PS4 GOTY so far...we'll see as I progress further. I know I've barely scratched the surface with only a few hours in so enough typing and back to NMS I go!
The concept seems really cool, but early reviews are hit or miss. A lot of reports that it gets boring pretty quick. I'm sure I can wait a few weeks or for a price drop, I got enough in my backlog already.
That being said, would love some honest reviews on NA for the people that are playing it.

I already gave a brief honest review but here's more...Don't expect some FPS or action packed drama. There is NOTHING like this on PS4 at the moment. It's such a breath of fresh air from the Call of Duties and horror zombie type stuff we see everywhere. This is for those who truly want to feel like they're on a solo space adventure. It's heavy on exploration and on the themes of what life is all about. It's about finding your own way, your own path, and the means to get by along the way, sometimes making correct choices and other times not.
It's about surviving the unknown and discovering things on your own. You can name the flora and planet you just discovered then go land on the moon of that planet you see in the distance. The moon might seem barren but then you blast a hole in it and discover a wealth of underground caves full of undiscovered creatures, minerals, etc... You always have to be conscious of your inventory such as when your mining blaster is empty, you need minerals to recharge it. Your shields or fuel might be depleted on your ship so you either end up stranded or you go find what you need to get up and going again. Do you travel towards the center of the galaxy or do you spend an entire day just exploring 1 or 2 planets? Do you get involved in a space battle that you stumbled upon or do you sit back and scavenge the remnants? Do you travel 1 hour to the nearest space station or kick in your hyperdrive and wait 10 minutes to get there? There are other situations and decisions you have to make along the way that impact things along the way (I won't spoil it). You're either going to find this "boring" as the negative reviews put it or you're going to love it.
There's a much deeper aspect to NMS than what most reviewers are probably letting on. I highly reccomend this game to anyone with a PS4 and who enjoys this kind of thing. IMO, don't read reviews, don't watch Youtube videos, don't watch live streams...experience it for yourself and be the judge. It's definitely one of those you either love it or hate it games. I love it!
Here's a great message written by the creator of No Man's Sky, Sean Murray that was sent out with the press/review kits:
"I feel sick writing this.
You are about to play No Man's Sky and I don't know what you'll think.
I know I'm proud of it. I'm incredibly proud of the tiny team that is making a game at a scale that's never been done before. At times I can squint my eyes and see that we're generating entire planets, solar systems, galaxies on a PS4, and see that maybe that could be a part of how games are made in the future.
At times I can let myself feel proud that our indie game is going to be in shops. That we have a media kit! That you are even taking the time to play our game, when our previous titles might not have.
I know I've watched playtesters get totally consumed in our universe… but I've also seen people feel lost. I've seen kids weaned on Minecraft lose themselves, and I've seen some others feel lost. I don't know how you'll feel. I don't know if we can ever live up to the hype we've generated, sometimes knowingly, often not.
I know my strongest memory growing up in the outback of Australia, seeing the stars at night, and feeling overwhelmed. Reading sci-fi and wishing I could escape into those worlds. If for one small moment I can make some people feel that they have stepped through a science fiction book cover, or to think briefly about the size of our universe… then I'll be happy with that.
Thank you so much for taking the time to play. I appreciate it. Hope you enjoy.
I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm worried it's going get repetitive fairly quickly. The planets are obviously very diverse, but the things to do on them seem mostly the same so far. We'll see though. I'm only roughly four hours in.
I am really enjoying it already. Still not sure if I'll get bored in 5 hours or play for months. A lot of "wow" moments, but I can see those wearing off sooner than later.
I can say this much for sure to anyone afraid of it getting too repetitive or boring: there isn't a single 8 bit or 16 bit game I can think of that has more content than NMS in terms of space exploration. Even one of my favorite games which NMS seems similar to, Starflight (Sega Genesis and PC) was far more redundant than NMS is.
If anything, the sheer scale of it all might be overwhelming for some thus they get bored because they don't have the motivation or time to devote to exploring. For a small team of devs, it really turned out well IMO. The graphics might be somewhere in between PS3 and PS4 but it still looks amazing IMO. I don't regret pre-ordering it at all. Apparently it will look even better once the PS4 Neo comes out (rumor is that it will be unveiled in September).
Lotta hours in already. Still loving it. Bought my first new ship, expanding suit slots, and taking names.
My brother sent me a very negative review this morning and asked for my thoughts. It was clearly written by a guy who was forced to review the game by his bosses and isn't allowed to stop until he "beats" it by reaching the center. He's real sour about it and hates the game. Mentions all these things missing that were never mentioned or were mentioned only to say they weren't in there.
For those still on the fence, keep in mind the purpose of the game is essentially just exploration. If you aren't going to enjoy seeing the sights of a planet and traveling the stars, I don't recommend it. No fast action in this game, just a real chill game.
I'm still enjoying it, got my ass marooned last night and had to trudge around for hours trying to find some damn plutonium I'll be going along bitching how I can't wait to get off this rock then suddenly find something cool then finally found some and made it back to my ship, did I leave? Why hell no I went exploring some more just kept a better eye on my shit.
Some of these creatures are fucked up looking seen this huge ass quadruped I swear looked like a jackal and some plated dinosaur got it on and this was the love child, I named him Jimmy, he likes iron he gets pretty excited when I come around. I'll miss him when I have to leave.
Not to say it's a bad game, but I think I'll wait on it a bit.
Waiting on it is my thinking with every next gen game release now. I've been honeydicked on:
Halo: MCC - Couldn't play it until a month after launch
GTA V - Repeatedly crashed
Destiny - Bought into the hype and is just a grinding meh sort of game
That's like $200 in shit experiences. Unless it's a franchise I'll enjoy no matter what (Titanfall and Battlefield) then there's no chance I'm spending $67 to be a beta tester on a game that I don't know if it's going to be good or not. Might as well wait out the reviews and buy it a month or two down the road when the patches are in and I'll get it for half off.

Same here. Even if a game lived up to the hype, it's killed by all the ones that flopped, so it's best to wait-- at least for the first price drop.
I've been loving No Man's Sky. I've probably put somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 - 50 hours into it so far. I've learned 168 words, have 2,439,526 units, upgraded multi-tool with maximum power before recharge and extra slots, upgraded shields and weapons on my ship, 19 inventory slots on my exosuit so far, and I've explored 6 planets. I've named my planets all kinds of things such as Dead Critter Carnival, Toxic Dump, Stoner Paradise (my favorite at the moment, my main hub because of it's trading post and friendly environment, about 76% discovered before I get a 325,000 unit bonus for getting 100% completion), Poision Rain Planet, and Barren Riches.
Some tips:
-Easy money: Find a trading post on a planet or a space station. Fly directly up from the trading post or out from the space station and mine the hell out of asteroids...not the little guys that blow up easy, look for the big fat ones that are usually round...they contain more valuable resources like nickel and iridium. Go back and sell at trading post or space station. Repeat. Easy 60,000 - 150,000 per run (depending on how many inventory slots you have and the buy/sell rate which differs at every place).
-Be aware that your empty exosuit and ship slots can be used for upgrades (pay attention to which resources you need to craft them) or to craft certain items which other upgrades might need.
-Make a lot of bypass chips. When you go to a site that has the thing shooting red light into the sky, you need a bypass chip to use it. It's going to give you a list of things you can request. The best things you can request are Colonial Outpost and Transmission because that's where Korvax will be. They usually test you with some riddle or decision you have to make. If you choose wisely, you are rewarded with recipes (to make new items/upgrades) or blueprints or something awesome. Plus there's usually better weapons or multi-tools in these colonial outposts or transmission areas that you can buy. Shelter is sometimes nothing more than a multi-tool upgrade blueprint and monoliths are usually language stones and perhaps a decision where you're rewarded if you answer correctly.
-Don't attack the fleet of frigates with inventory on them or other ships unless you have an awesome ship that's highly upgraded and has good weapons. You will either get your ass kicked very quickly or have to retreat fast as hell back down to a planet.
-When you feed the non-attacking, non-meat eating creatures and it shows a smiley face above them, follow them around for a while. They usually lead you to hidden resources that are often uncommon or rare. Eventually you have to feed them again if you want them to continue.
-Once you get the Pulse Cannon weapon which blows holes in planets/kills droids and creatures instantly, have fun making underground caves, underwater tunnels, and shortcuts through mountains. When you go away for a while and come back, those places you created will have spawned new flora and resources for you mine. Plus making tunnels/shortcuts to areas you know are resource heavy is very helpful.
-Always make sure you have the following resoures in your inventory: carbon (easiest resource to find by far because it's everywhere, needed to talk to AI, refill multi-tool, etc), plutonium (needed for lift off thrusters otherwise your ship is going fu**ing nowhere), thanium9 (needed for pulse drive which is like a semi-warp, perfect for going from planet to planet or long distances in the same system), iron (used in a lot of recipes/crafting).
-You will need to warp to another solar system in order to find the Atlas Pass and Hyperdrive blueprint. Once you warp, you will encounter new alien species with a completely new language, so everything you learned in the first system means nothing in terms of understanding their language.
-Emeril is your best friend. Find a planet with huge deposits of this and mine the hell out of it. It's one of the most valuable elements in the game. You can easily make around 400,000 - 1,000,000 (depends on your total inventory slots) in about a 20-30 minute mining session. The deposits are usually so big that it takes quite a while to mine it all.
Overall I'm loving this game. It's certainly not for everyone but for those who know what they're getting into, it's awesome. Enjoy!
Well after marooning my ass a SECOND time (different planet) I found a wrecked ship so thought I'd fix up and use it as it was a tad better than my starter one. Took a good solid 3 hours to find everything as the one element I needed was no where to be found and I needed a shit ton, so I wandered though the deserts with out my horse (ship) as stoopid ass me transferred everything before it was ready (funny thing is AFTER all this it struck I could have put everything back)
So I'm in my new ship finally and decide to mine a bunch of iridium as there's huge boulders of them scattered about. Maxed every slot I had and took off, broke orbit and hammered down... less than 30 seconds I get an alarm of hostiles scanning and sure enough SIX of those fuckers came out of no where I took 4 down but they finally got me. I was pissed, first time I ever died. Then I seen a new icon on screen that was my grave marker and went after it and got most of my shit back as this time instead of max inventory I had a couple slots open again.
I still don't know what the hell I'm actually doing, but I'm enjoying it.

lol If you need help, feel free to PM me or post here. What element did you need that took you forever to find? I might be able to help you out. Don't forget that you can buy as well as sell from space stations and trading posts.

This game has the same feel as Spore in my opinion. Visually it looks great from the early stuff I saw but it could be way over-hyped.
I felt that it was gonna be another "Spore"-type of game, so I didn't get into the hype.
