Best way to edit NES tiles?

Heya guys! I was just curious what the best ways to edit/modify NES graphics would be? I was hoping for a way to export a NES rom's graphics to a bitmap or something then edit it, and then import it back afterwards?

 

Is there any way to edit the graphics live while the game is running? I remember having a blast using Nesticle to do that!

There's a couple I use that's pretty good, but takes some getting used to: yy-chr and/or tile layer pro. I don't think you can use either of them while an emulator is running, but both are pretty good for editing graphics/tiles in NES games and was what I started to use when converting the FDS Roger Rabbit to the NES.
